Are these products safe for people with decompensated liver? 2- I am 192 Ibs now, down from 200, @ 6' 2", and would like to return to my 200 weight. 1.5 grms x 200 weight goal and maintanance requires 300 grams of protein daily. Is that much protein safe for cirrhotics/decomp liver to even try reaching this goal? I have been trying to keep high carb/caloric with low sodium up to now.
Avatar f tn Google LCHF and you will see a whole bunch of doctors and nutritionists with tons of meals and recipes (simple and inexpensive). Try it for a week and you will see the weight loss happen and food cravings reduce, as this style of eating keeps your blood sugar stable all day long and trains your body to burn fat in absence of insulin secretion. I did not lose weight on that regimen, instead I kept gaining. I, finally, stopped using the shakes and started eating "real" food that contains a healthy mix of vegetables and protein, with more fats from meat, dairy, coconut oil, olive oil, etc and lost 23 lbs in about 3 months...

Avatar f tn The eating plan us calked LCHF, which is low fat, moderate protein and high fat. And there are no gimmicks, pills, powders, bars, etc...just real food. Best part is that no calorie counting, eat until full. Also, it canceled my cravings and I no longer snack anymore. I also need to remind myself to eat, as I'm not hungry anymore (I used to be ravenous all day long). Basic meal is VEGETABLE + PROTEIN (meat, fish, eggs) + FAT. Example is egg omelette with bacon and asparagus.

You may want to try protein powders and nutritional supplements (like Ensure) to provide you with extra calories. Mixing the protein powders with milk or juice will add some additional calories and may improve the taste. A multivitamin and mineral supplement may also be benefitical (check with your parents or doctor for an appropriate one).

Exercise also helps build muscle, but if you do the right ones, you won't "bulk up". I often use, both, Greek yogurt and protein powder in my smoothies. The yogurt gives you and extra amount of protein, plus calcium, vitamin B12, etc.
