Proscar vs finasteride

Common Questions and Answers about Proscar vs finasteride

proscar

Avatar n tn I am currently taking 1.25mg/day of finasteride for MPB. I have been on the medication for 10 months and have noticed a distinct inability to gain muscle, despite exercise and diet, that corresponds to when I started this medication. What role, if any, could this medication be playing in this? If it is negatively impacting muscle growth, is there a way to counteract the effects that it is having on my muscle without sacrificing my hair?
Avatar m tn re not taking any meds that may influence your hormone levels, e.g. finasteride (brand names Propecia, Proscar) for male pattern baldness. Always consult your doctor before you decide to try any new treatment or natural supplement. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Gleason 6 (3+3) 2 out of 12 cores positive (3% and 22%) PSA (08/08) 4.7 PSADT 3.34 yrs. Do you agree with general guidance for invoking active treatment vs. observation if another biopsy done in 04/09 shows increase in positive cores to 3 or more or if any one core shows 50%+ positive for cancer? Also, is there any current opinion regarding use of Avodart or Proscar while in Watchful Waiting mode?
Avatar n tn Propose that your partner try Avodart. I think it really helps with prostate enlargement. That is what the television commercials say anyhow. Unfortunately it also can cause a large reduction in semen production. AND women wanting to become pregnant should NEVER touch the pill as it can cause birth defects if they are exposed at all to it. You can Google Avodart read all of this yourself from a variety of sites, including Avodart's manufacturer.
Avatar m tn Does taking Finasteride 1mg for long term for treating male pattern baldness , have any effects on baby.I've stopped Finasteride for over 1 yr after taking it for more than a yr.If i get married and plan to have a baby , will there be any genetic health problems in the new born.
Avatar m tn I had quite severe BHP and taking proscar and cardura. Had always difficulty urinating. I tried saw palmetto and it made me unable to urinate at all. I had to go to hospital.
Avatar n tn Then, even though the BPH questionnaire showed me to be nowhere near having it, the urologist wrote me a prescription for Finasteride. I have searched all over the web and several medical and medication reference books at the library and can find not a single place where it says that Finasteride has anything to do with the problem of blood in the semen. All I have read points to Finasteride lessening the symptoms of BPH, symptoms I do not have.
Avatar m tn Hi I have an AST Level of 97 and ALT of 204. Also a high WBC count 6 - 10. Should I be worried? I am 46 6'1" and about 195lbs. I was taking finasteride daily and a few supplements. Thanks so much for your help.
Avatar m tn 02 or less for 8 years and then began to slowly rise. At .03 PSA in 2011 my Urologist prescribed Finasteride to stop the conversion of dihydrotestosteone and the PSA dropped to .02 and remained there for several years. On a later visit to the urologist I commented on this drug to control my PSA and he vehemently denied it was for PSA control but said it was prescribed for urinary issues. That was not true-I had never complained to him about urinary issues.
250398 tn?1225263291 52 year old male. I have BPH and am on meds (Proscar and Cardura XL). My urine is dark yellow/gold and has a strong oder like yeast/wheat and foams a lot in the toilet. Cause for concern? Any ideas? Thanks for any insight.
Avatar f tn I have been to a urologist for this and upon a semen analysis, everything came back normal. I do take Finasteride 0.5mg every other day for my hair. Could this be the cause? He insisted that it was NOT the Finasteride (propecia). In addition, I asked if it could be low testosterone and he claimed that it was not the issue in this case. I'm an avid bodybuilder whom exercises 5-6 days a week.
Avatar m tn Then around January I googled my problems a little and stumble upon the pretty gloomy website propeciasideeffects.com. Like I feared, I figured my problems could have something to do with my intake of finasteride, and stopped immediately. It was hard to actually believe that I could be one of those 1% of people having those side effects, but I guess it happens. The next thing I read, that was even harder to believe, was the fact that this could easily stay with me for the rest of my life..

Avatar m tn Oh, and if you are not using the foam kind of Rogaine, people have fewer problems with that, so I have heard.
Avatar m tn I take Sybicort for asthma and Finasteride. Also, I have had one problem since childhood that might be relevant. Often, though not invariably, after I ejaculate, I have symptoms like some of those described above for between 10 minutes and 1 hour. In particular, I feel burning pain and a persistent need to urinate, even if I cannot. I have never had the matter looked at. 1. What remaining diseases do you think it would be worth looking into? Does anything serious jump out at you? 2.
Avatar n tn what is the medication, is it proscar??
Avatar f tn Finasteride is an underestimated and dangerous pill for hair loss. Its hard to stop it and not experience libido issues. You are lucky enough that you took it for so little time. There are other people taking it for years facing serious hormonal side effects. It will probably take as long as you took the tablets to feel like before. So a couple of months is a good projection as this pill changes hormonal balance in your blood and gene expression about androgen receptors.
