I had frequent urination, every two to three hours at night, I was asked to take finasteride 5mg every day. which i did for about a month, however, this resulted in erectile dysfunction, so i stopped taking finasteride, after which the ED has gone.

re not taking any meds that may influence your hormone levels, e.g. finasteride (brand names Propecia, Proscar) for male pattern baldness. Always consult your doctor before you decide to try any new treatment or natural supplement. Good luck!
I am a male with almost exactly the same symtoms as in 'Treatmnt for Urine Retention' above, except I am age 47, not 76 ...and feel like my current doctor is too prone to advise a TURP, when I really don't want surgery.
I am told my prostate is not that large, and I have difficulty urinating that seems to be getting worse, as I've just last week increased a dosage of Hytrin from 5mg to 10mg, with only marginal benefit (Hytrin used to work great at only 5mg).
The side effects of finasteride are anxiety, depression, sexual dysfunction in form of impotence, abnormal ejaculation, abnormal sexual function ejaculation disorder and testicular pain. If this medication is showing effects it is best to consult your doctor before discontinuing this drug. I hope it helps.

m on propecia...however, my doctor (being pretty cool), prescribed me 5mg Finasteride (i.e. Propecia). I split the pills in half, which is pretty close to the dosage for Propecia. The bottle lasts me two months, and costs me $5 because finasteride is covered on my insurance. I'm 28 years old, soooo....the insurance company DID need my doctor to verify the prescription. But like I said, he is cool :) See if your doc will hook you up the same!
Propose that your partner try Avodart. I think it really helps with prostate enlargement. That is what the television commercials say anyhow.
Unfortunately it also can cause a large reduction in semen production.
AND women wanting to become pregnant should NEVER touch the pill as it can cause birth defects if they are exposed at all to it.

I had quite severe BHP and taking proscar and cardura. Had always difficulty urinating. I tried saw palmetto and it made me unable to urinate at all. I had to go to hospital.
Then, even though the BPH questionnaire showed me to be nowhere near having it, the urologist wrote me a prescription for Finasteride. I have searched all over the web and several medical and medication reference books at the library and can find not a single place where it says that Finasteride has anything to do with the problem of blood in the semen. All I have read points to Finasteride lessening the symptoms of BPH, symptoms I do not have.
Hi I have an AST Level of 97 and ALT of 204. Also a high WBC count 6 - 10. Should I be worried? I am 46 6'1" and about 195lbs. I was taking finasteride daily and a few supplements. Thanks so much for your help.
observation if another biopsy done in 04/09 shows increase in positive cores to 3 or more or if any one core shows 50%+ positive for cancer? Also, is there any current opinion regarding use of Avodart or Proscar while in Watchful Waiting mode? I understand there would be a likely reduction in PSA, but that new PSA baseline be established and return to monitoring of PSA velocity. Not sure what, if any, benefit this would provide.
I have been to a urologist for this and upon a semen analysis, everything came back normal. I do take Finasteride 0.5mg every other day for my hair. Could this be the cause? He insisted that it was NOT the Finasteride (propecia). In addition, I asked if it could be low testosterone and he claimed that it was not the issue in this case. Like I feared, I figured my problems could have something to do with my intake of finasteride, and stopped immediately. Oh, and if you are not using the foam kind of Rogaine, people have fewer problems with that, so I have heard.
