Avatar n tn Propose that your partner try Avodart. I think it really helps with prostate enlargement. That is what the television commercials say anyhow. Unfortunately it also can cause a large reduction in semen production. AND women wanting to become pregnant should NEVER touch the pill as it can cause birth defects if they are exposed at all to it. You can Google Avodart read all of this yourself from a variety of sites, including Avodart's manufacturer.

Avatar m tn With the penile injections my wife and I were able to engage in sexual intercourse. This all stopped in 2008 when I ended up with the catheter. As much as I would enjoy a fairly normal sex life again, I can assure you that I would much rather do without sex and have any chance of normal urination again. Most likely neither one is possible for me. If the drugs help with urination, I would remain on them and gladly take the side effects of sexual dysfunction.

Avatar m tn Saw palmetto allegedly helps reduce prostatic enlargement and there have been a few citations for it being effective in benign hyperplasia. However its use has been associated with side effects and use is only advised after consultation with a doctor. Hope this helps. Take care!

Avatar n tn Do you agree with general guidance for invoking active treatment vs. observation if another biopsy done in 04/09 shows increase in positive cores to 3 or more or if any one core shows 50%+ positive for cancer? Also, is there any current opinion regarding use of Avodart or Proscar while in Watchful Waiting mode? I understand there would be a likely reduction in PSA, but that new PSA baseline be established and return to monitoring of PSA velocity.
250398 tn?1225263291 Thanks Dr. The Cardura was prescribed for the BPH, then the proscar was added later. In addition, I do take Norvasc for Hypertension, which is undercontrol, as far as the readings are concerned (120-130/80-84). Thans for your advice. Will follow-up accordingly.
Avatar n tn HELLO Iam a 49 years old male 1-When I was 40 , I went to the doctor as I was having small drop of urine in the end of urination, doctor told me not to worry and no examination was done. 2-five years ago ........ I had the problem getting more while passing urine (when i pea few drops of urine come out in the end ) I went to the doctor and he did a PSA test it was (0.78), and he did a Uroflowmetry and it was normal and he told me not to worry about it and no medication is required.
Avatar n tn Sometimes as the prostate gradually enlarges with age, friable veins called varices develop on its surface. These are also prone to tearing. In such cases, Proscar is sometimes prescribed to shrink both the prostate and the veins. Although hematospermia is not a typical sign of prostate cancer, its presence may indicate an increased risk of prostate cancer. It is exceedingly rare to have prostate cancer before age 40" en.allexperts.com/q/Urology-Male-issues-989/Brown-semen.
Avatar m tn The spot was small at first and seemed to have a prismatic effect, although clear it blocked vision in the area. Eventually, the spot started expanding, and disappeared in about 20-30 minutes. After two days of thorough testing by the opthomologist, he found nothing. His only guess was a possible optical migrain, with no pain, or possible TIA. I'd be interested in what others might think.
250398 tn?1225263291 Do you think maybe I am experiencing prostatitis or some other prostate issue or UTI? I have had some soreness in the lower abdoman and also in the right testicle/epididymus. I am out of the country workingf, and have no real access to adequate healthcare (or that can speak good enough English to discuss). So, I am looking for some reassurances, I guess. Thanks for your help, AJ.
Avatar f tn DHT levels should return to normal very quickly, I'm sure they would have by now. You probably need to feel better about things, and if taking vitamin B complex helps will put you in a better frame of mind, go ahead. Many guys take L-arginine, there's some evidence that it works a bit like Viagra. It's very cheap at a health food store in the powder form.
Avatar m tn Unrination is really no problem anymore, but I have a problem with getting erections and now when I ejaculate I have no semon in me. Also have a runny nose mostly in the a.m. What is your advice and opinion for this problem. Thank you This discussion is related to use of Flomax.
250398 tn?1225263291 55 year old male. I have BPH and take Proscar and Cardura XL. Having some lower abdominal soreness and have noted cloudy urine and now a whitish discharge from my penis. Began Bactrim and Cipro yesterday, along with Ibuprofen. I am working out of the country, so tracking down a Urologist or even a general practice doctor that speaks good enough English for me to understand, and for them to understand me, is a challenge. So, am I on a good track? Prostatitis? Bladder/Kideney infection?

Avatar n tn Hello, On July 14, 2011 my 80 year old Dad had two polys removed and one hour later ended up in ICU for 3 days and the hospital for one week. 5 days later he had prostrate problems and ended up leaving the hospital with a catheter. He ended up with an infection and after taking proscar and flowmax for 5 months (and using the single use catheter) he went in for an opening of the urethra. He since has had recurrent bladder infections, terrible gas and bloating.
Avatar m tn I'm 24 and used to be an outgoing, energetic and happy person. My wife now says to me, "You aren't the same person I married!". I'm depressed, I'm fatigued, I have next to no libido at all (Which is what is hurting our marriage), weight gain, worsening gynocomastia, extreme irritability and I desperately want to feel better. I haven't felt normal for almost 2 years and my irritability is sooo difficult to control.
Avatar m tn Taking Viagra clearly works, try a small amount (cut up a 100 mg in 4 or 8 roughly equal pieces) and see how it works for you. I used Proscar (Propecia) years ago and definitely felt it killed my libido. It does dramatically lower DHT, a sex hormone *supposedly* only needed during your growing years - but nobody has ever explained how a crucial sex hormone just suddenly becomes unimportant when you turn 18. Try generic minoxidil to keep your hair instead.
Avatar m tn I have sought out a urologist who said he detected a high count of white blood cells. I was prescribed procrit or proscar for an extended period of time. I did not complete the required dose because it wasn't helping. I now i have infected my sex partner on a couple of different occassions. she gets treated and cured but i can not. My symptoms include burning and an itching feeling on the tip of my penis.
Avatar n tn The medication works by inhibiting the enzyme that converts testosterone to its bioactive metabolite dihydrotestosterone thus decreasing its levels in the body. Dihydrotestosterone is implicated in causing direct damage to the hair follicles that can lead to MPB and damage to the prostate causing BPH.
Avatar m tn 2) If I take any hormonal tests (what can I take?), may these tests provide a relief that I am NOT developing any gyno if they fell in the normal ranges? Are there any lab tests I can do to rule it out for like 80%? Thanks for any input. http://s8.postimg.org/ymm0dbkpx/Image6245.
