250398 tn?1225263291 52 year old male. I have BPH and am on meds (Proscar and Cardura XL). My urine is dark yellow/gold and has a strong oder like yeast/wheat and foams a lot in the toilet. Cause for concern? Any ideas? Thanks for any insight.
250398 tn?1225263291 Given this, what would you suspect for me? I do have BPH and am on meds for it. Do you think maybe I am experiencing prostatitis or some other prostate issue or UTI? I have had some soreness in the lower abdoman and also in the right testicle/epididymus. I am out of the country workingf, and have no real access to adequate healthcare (or that can speak good enough English to discuss). So, I am looking for some reassurances, I guess. Thanks for your help, AJ.

Avatar m tn I am a 69 year old male with BPH, and a father who had prostate cancer for 15 years, but did not die from it. I have had two bouts of acute prostatitis causing complete retention in the last 7 years, one requiring catheterization. My PSA averages around 2.0, and I take Proscar and Cardura daily. My BPH symptoms are fairly mild causing only about one or two nights a month of nocturia, reduced urine flow, and hardly ever the feeling of urgency.
Avatar n tn Finasteride goes by the brand name Propecia (for MPB) and Proscar (for BPH) and is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor used to treat male pattern baldness (MPB) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) [enlargement of the prostate]. The medication works by inhibiting the enzyme that converts testosterone to its bioactive metabolite dihydrotestosterone thus decreasing its levels in the body.
Avatar n tn The second possible problem could be an enlarged prostate (BPH) causing obstruction of the urethra resulting in retention. BPH usually occurs slowly over decades and I suspect your father was not emptying his bladder completely 3 months prior to the retention episode. This problem (BPH) occurs in over 80% of men. An Alpha blocker (Urimax) is the appropriate drug to try. The question is what to do when the Urimax and prolonged catheter drainage do not reestablish normal voiding?
250398 tn?1225263291 55 year old male. I have BPH and take Proscar and Cardura XL. Having some lower abdominal soreness and have noted cloudy urine and now a whitish discharge from my penis. Began Bactrim and Cipro yesterday, along with Ibuprofen. I am working out of the country, so tracking down a Urologist or even a general practice doctor that speaks good enough English for me to understand, and for them to understand me, is a challenge. So, am I on a good track? Prostatitis? Bladder/Kideney infection?
Avatar m tn BTW, I noticed one of the treatments for this condition is beta blockers, which I am already taking daily (for PVC), along with alpha blockers and Proscar for BPH. Thanks again for your input.
Avatar m tn Prostatitis and BPH are similar. How and when were you diagnosed with each? I'm not here to convince you to take Flomax - that's a decision only you can make. I just want to make sure you have all the information. Depending on the dose, either .4 mg or .8 mg, only 8.4% and 18/1%, respectively, of men experienced any ejaculation issues. Again, depending on the dose, 14.9% and 17.1% experienced dizziness, respectively. http://products.sanofi.us/flomax/flomax.
Avatar m tn This can occur if a person is taking drugs used to treat BPH or other conditions like Proscar or Avodart, when a person is taking certain herbal medicines or supplements or in obesity. Men with very low PSA levels may need to be tested every two years.
Avatar n tn Propose that your partner try Avodart. I think it really helps with prostate enlargement. That is what the television commercials say anyhow. Unfortunately it also can cause a large reduction in semen production. AND women wanting to become pregnant should NEVER touch the pill as it can cause birth defects if they are exposed at all to it. You can Google Avodart read all of this yourself from a variety of sites, including Avodart's manufacturer.
Avatar m tn I had quite severe BHP and taking proscar and cardura. Had always difficulty urinating. I tried saw palmetto and it made me unable to urinate at all. I had to go to hospital.
Avatar m tn Hello, I recently had a rigid cystoscopy and I have been placed on Pinexel PR for 2 months by my urologist. I had a bladder neck level problem and BPH. I have some issues with this medication, specifically retrograde ejaculation which is not acceptable for me at 26 years old. My question is, are there alternative medications which deal with the problem (shrinking prostate instead of masking the symptoms) and could this be prostatitis as I have had UTI's in the past.
Avatar m tn In fact, nowadays his urinary problems due to BPH had almost subsided, hence he had stopped taking the BPH medication. Its only when he gets the gout attacks for which he has to take voveran, when this problem starts. Would it help to take the BPH medication when he is taking the painkiller for gout? Thanks for the diet & other precautions that you have mentioned. We would try changing the painkillers and hope that it helps. Thanks again for everything. I would get back if required.
Avatar n tn I am 64 years old and have had BPH symptoms for about eighteen years. My symptoms have become progressively more severe with time and I probably should be considering some form of surgical intervention. Although the various surgical options are effective, I do not perceive any of them to be an elegant approach to this problem. Therefore, I have made a decision to do nothing in the surgical arena until I absolutely have no other choice.
Avatar n tn observation if another biopsy done in 04/09 shows increase in positive cores to 3 or more or if any one core shows 50%+ positive for cancer? Also, is there any current opinion regarding use of Avodart or Proscar while in Watchful Waiting mode? I understand there would be a likely reduction in PSA, but that new PSA baseline be established and return to monitoring of PSA velocity. Not sure what, if any, benefit this would provide.
Avatar m tn I underwent TURP on 11 th Feb for BPH and got discharged after 5 days after removal of catheter I am having a small flow of urine leaking in standing posture and walking mode. My urologist advised Kegel exercise which I am doing.
Avatar f tn It is not uncommon that men develop the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) such as urinary frequency, weak stream and difficulty starting and starting their stream as they age. Patients with BPH can have worsening symptoms over time and as the prostate continues to grow, the relief provided by flomax may be diminish. There is another class of medications, such as Uroxatral, which can help shrink your prostate and improve your symptoms.
Avatar n tn I had no prostatic/urinary symptoms. I got an MRI of prostate and TRUS guided FNAC done. Both revealed signs of BPH (39mmX39mmX56mm) and FNAC revealed signs of chronic prostatitis. DRE (which, incidentally and wrongly was done after FNAC) revealed a slight firmness (no nodule) on the right side. I took a long course of ofloxacin which dropped the PSA to 12.75 after 3 months. I continued the ofloxacin hoping for further improvement, but after 6 more weeks the PSA remained the same.
Avatar n tn I can't use Flomax or other alpha blockers due to side effects -- disturbed sleep. Uroxatral even caused me to sleepwalk 15 feet from a nap on the sofa one evening, waking when I fell flat on my face in the next room! Separately, due to a Vitamin D deficiency my doc found, he put me on 50,000 units Vitamin D per week for 8 weeks, followed by biweekly doses. And guess what...the Vitamin D almost instantly "cured" the BPH.
Avatar m tn My doctors are a little slow in telling me what high blood medications I can take with visteris (the 3rd drug after interferon and ribovarin) and what bph (enlarged prostate) med i can take. my hep doctor insists I can't take rapaflow (bph) or amlodopine (high blood pressure). If you have had a similar experience or can help please respond. God bless you and my prayers for your recoveries.
