My family doc gave me a prescription for Prometrium (200 mgs) because I was terrified of taking the Provera again due to side effects and heavy bleeding. Any information on how one feels while taking Prometrium (vs Provera) and whether it works to bring on a flow but, not a flood? I'm confused and cannot get my OBGYN by phone or even and appointment to talk to her. Any help would be much appreciated.
provera is usuallly the standard for treating amenorrhea. although duphaston is much the same I do believe that duphaston has been discontinued but iam not positive. Either way please do not take this without a doc's RX and is not to be used as the abortion pill. Taking these meds will bring on a menstrual cycle but this can be very painful and come wiith heavy bleeding.
I stopped taking the pill a little over a year ago because my husband and I decided to try for a baby. We tried for 7 months with no luck. I went to my ob/gyn and she put me on provera 10mg for 10 days. I started 2 days after my last pill and then started Clomid 50mg days 3-7. I went on day 21 to have my levels tested, found out I did not ovulate. So we tried again the second month, same treatment, started 2 days after my last Provera pill and did the Clomid cycle. Did not ovulate.

My dr. just put me on Prometrium 200mg at bedtime with hope to get my period. Has anyone taken this for similar reason and what was your outcome? We are trying to get pregnant.
i took provera for ten days,and i still have had no period at all.is this normal.i had bled three weeks before taking the medicine,doctor said my uterus was still full,he is using provera to strip the uterus out,but nothing has happened.
I am a bit unsure about the provera due to some side effects? How did you find the prometrium I think its similar.
Me and my husband decided we wanted another baby but were told that we could it without help. So we started provera to get a period again then clomid. 2 days again I had to inject myself with Ovidrel 2 days ago and need tomorrow in need to add Prometrium to me. Has anyone use these and gotten success?
Hey girls ~ was told yesterday that having Prometrium prescribed as a suppository was ludicrous ~ that Crinone Gel is mega better and sticks as opposed to the Prometrium which just drips out "because it was made to be taken orally ~ not vaginally ~ and anyone who suggests it is just playing with being a Fertilization Specialist"....
I am not sure about whether or not the cause of the miscarriages were due to the Depo-Provera but I did furthur research and wanted to share some info with those individuals that don't know. Depo-Provera is a synthetic hormone. I was very young when I took it and didn't get all of the details (ignorance). If I would have known that fact alone, I wouldn't have taken it. If you have a low Progestrone Level it will more than likely cause you to have a miscarriage. Now.....
I have had frequent, irregular periods for over two years and recently (4 months) my husband and I have been trying to conceive but have had no success although I have normal fsh and amh levels. Been tested for PCOS and had a number of ultrasounds. I have taken provera and now have been sent to an infertility specialist for further treatment.
I've had a consultation with the REI specialist while I started my 3rd cycle of provera.
I have always wondered if the suppositories affect the eggs and she thinks that prometrium caps are better. Any thoughts about this ladies?

In my connections with other women on HRT, it seems bleeding is more apt to happen when they take micronized progesterone (e.g. Prometrium) versus one of the progestins. In this case, it may be better to "cycle" HRT versus taking it continuously. That would entail stopping the progesterone or progestin every so often (monthly , quarterly) which would force a bleed and keep your lining thinned out.
You are not considered in menopause until you haven't had a period for a year. Perimenopause can last up to 10 years, and you do still ovulate during this time, although it is common for your cycles to be irregular.
Having an LH surge does not necessarily mean you ovulated. All it tells you is that your body is gearing up to, or attempting to ovulate. Sometimes you won't and then may experience another surge later on in your cycle.
Vivelle-dot estrogen patch after surgery, and I felt fine. Two weeks later, he added a 100 mg. daily dose of prometrium to my HRT therapy to avoid recurrence of endometriosis growth. My problem is that I am having unpleasant side effects from the prometrium, including exhaustion, minor headache, and lightheadedness. I don't like how it makes me feel. What other alternatives would you suggest to the 100 mg. prometrium?
