Prometrium orally

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium orally

prometrium

Avatar f tn Hmmm. Well, prometrium is prescribed for some orally (that's how I took it) and as suppositories. I would highly doubt the same pill could be taken either way...I am pretty confident it would be different. If you cannot reach your OB, the best person to ask is the pharmascist. It sounds to me like someone might have made an error.
Avatar f tn yes, orally--200 mg. so I guess I should ignore any and all possible pregnancy symptoms and wait til I can do the blood test.
Avatar f tn Also, is anyone taking Prometrium orally? What dose are you taking and what time of day do you take it? Are you worried about any side effects it may have on the baby?
Avatar f tn I've been doing some research on prometrium . I was prescribed prometrium since the month of Feb. In Feb.,I ovulated with the help of clomid and prometrium. My progesterone levels were 34. In March my cycle never came and I contacted my Dr on Apr. 9 letting her know I never had my cycle. She schedule me to take some test to take . On 14 my cycle visited and was very weird . her instructions for the prometrium is to take on cycle day 16 and continue to take until a cycle comes.
10582759 tn?1411223910 I have had two previous miscarriages due to low progesterone. I was prescribed prometrium and now im 12w2d. It was very effective for me.
377493 tn?1356502149 So I have now been on Prometrium (orally, 300mg a day) for about a week. I have looked it up on the web, and all the sites related to it say to take it before you are pregnant, but not to take while you are pregnant. I am completely confused. My OB prescribed it knowing absolutely I was pregnant, and has me on it up until the end of the first trimester. Also, it seems the symptoms mimic pregnancy symptoms. Has anybody had a negative outcome using this drug?
Avatar f tn I took prometrium orally once. It made me dizzy, so I had to take it right before bed. Other than that no other side effects. I'm not sure if the vaginal pill has the same side-effects as the oral ones, though. Best of luck to you!
Avatar f tn I have had three very early miscarriages last year..so my doctor put me on Prometrium 200 mg twice a day to keep my progesterone levels up...and yes it has helped me tremendously...my progesterone level was at 72 until my last blood test. my doctor told me i could stop taking it after ten weeks. i had to switch doctors cuz he wasn't for OB. He stopped practicing that some time ago... My last visit to my new doctor was pretty quick...
377493 tn?1356502149 s the first time they have been prescribed to me in the form of vaginal suppositories. I have taken them orally in the past (as per my OB), but my RE prefers them vaginally, mainly due to side effects like being tired. And because this is a higher dosage then I've taken before, she's thinks this will be easier for me. Ok, I'm good with that, but I have a few questions. So, how far exactly do you push them up? Is it messy? Should I wear a pantyliner or something?
Avatar f tn m not familiar with crinone, but I have taken prometrium orally before, and I sooo prefer it as a suppository. Orally made me extremey dizzy....vaginally, not at all. Plus, orally the progesterone has to go through the liver, which removes some of the effectiveness, while as a suppository, it delivers the progesterone where it is needed. Who told you it was ludicrous to use prometrium as a suppository? I am very happy with my new RE, and I totally trust his judgement...
790669 tn?1465189099 IF I started back using it again this month(which I plan to) can I take it orally? It IS a gel cap but they told me to use it vaginally. Sorry for keep on complaining but vaginally is SOO messy. IF I can take it orally that would be sooo much easier! AND if I can take it orally, when would I take it? They put me on it last time 2 days after ovulation so would taking it orally be any different? Thanks so much for the help in advance!
Avatar f tn So I get a prescription for oral progesterone (Prometrium). Taking 400mg (2 pills a day). I spent $200 on the pills only to find that suppositories are more effective. The nurse told me today, while drawing my blood, that I can use Prometrium as a suppository. I'm hesitant and wanting to know if anyone else has and if it worked well for you. Will be getting lab results tomorrow to see where my progesterone is at.
Avatar f tn has he put you on any medications like prometrium to raise the levels? That medication is the only way I can successfully carry a baby in the first trimester and without it I m/c.
1262373 tn?1281543782 well that's the problem the only instructions she gave me were to take 200mg of prometruim orally on days 14-28 that's it!!! I didn't even think to ask any questions about if it actually helps lol. Maybe I should call and get some more advice about the medication from her.
1121273 tn?1325367975 I was on prometrium (orally) as well. And you know, my OB never ever gave me my levels. Always just told me everything looked good. I don't think it matters if the levels are in normal range due to the supplements or not. Point is, they are high enough and that either means your body is doing it's job, or the supplements are working. Either way, I would think it means good news. Hang in there hon, and remember...every day is a victory!!!
Avatar n tn I took prometrium as well, and in my case it was taken orally. There are still a few side effects - made me a bit sleepy is one that comes to mind, but at least no irritation. In terms of effectiveness my RE says its no different. That might be a good alternative for you to ask your Dr. about. But as Christine says, I wouldn't reduce them or stop them without consultation. The good news is most Dr.'s will have you stop prometrium around 13 weeks.
387168 tn?1214756393 Ok, so my dr put me on prometrium b/c my prog. has dropped. He said to take it orally but I chose to take it vaginally b/c I read it is better, but doesn't show in a blood test. My dr. doesnt know though I am taking it vag. I read the same pill is used either way and vag it works better. The pharmacist said the same thing. What should I do? I go for my levels again Monday. I started spotting Tuesday evening and started taking it orally Monday night.
Avatar f tn ve been taking Crinone 8% suppositories once a day for the past 2 weeks but my OB changed my Rx (due to insurance issues) to Progesterone 100mg (generic for prometrium) 3 times a day which I take orally. I just started the progesterone yesterday and my question is... Is it better to take the Progesterone pills vaginally instead? It's a small round peach pill with a gel coating. I'm so afraid of my levels dropping due to the change of meds and change in the way it's administered.
Avatar f tn I took prometrium orally instead of via suppository, and didn't have any issues with it. The side effects tend to mimic pregnancy symptoms, so no real problem at all. Congrats on your pregnancy, and all the best to you!
Avatar n tn I was told to take my progesterone supplement - prometrium 200mg orally - from when I ovulated until I got my period or was 12 weeks pregnant. Are you charting your BBT to tell when you ovulate? I'd double check with your office on when to start and make sure to get specifics. For a 'regular' or 'normal' cycle you would ovulate on CD 14 or so - starting on CD 15 would fall in line with that. But if you don't ovulate until CD 16 or so - get clarification. Good luck!
907699 tn?1251630847 I am also on prometrium but my RE has me use it vaginally instead of orally .
Avatar n tn I took prometrium 100mg 3x a day from the time I ovulated til week 12 but I took it orally as prescribed and had no issues. If you have a problem with taking meds in pill form you should also have your dr put a note in your chart so if you need any other meds during the pregnancy the dr will remember to have it in a liquid.
