Prometrium in first trimester

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium in first trimester

prometrium

Avatar n tn kind of thing (testing showed I have a blood clotting issue for which I take baby aspirin). I took the prometrium for the first trimester - and am now 30 weeks pregnant with a future soccer player! Good luck!
945369 tn?1320829437 definately agree with blugenie, about wearing a pad.another way of using them,is first thing in morning get up have pee.put one in and go back to bed for little while.then at night put one in before bed.that way they can dissolve better inside you, rather than getting up.walking round soon as you have used them.its very normal to have cramping etc in early pregnancy and throughout.good luck to you.
Avatar n tn My husband and I are trying to concieve our second child. With my first child I was put on prometrium for the first trimester due to low progesterone levels. This month I thought there was a chance I was pregnant and he told me instead of taking it days 16-25 I should remain on it until I know for sure if I am pregnant. I still have not gotten my period, and I am 3 days late.
Avatar n tn It is probably safe to take throughout the first trimester. There are some researchers who believe that there might be a very small increase in the risk of a birth defect in boy babies called hypospadias - with hypospadias the urethral opening is on the underside of the penis rather than at the tip or end. On the other hand, progesterone is used during pregnancy to prevent premature labor quite extensively.
Avatar f tn Prometrium, a progesterone supplement, is sometimes prescribed during the first trimester of pregnancy in women who have had a history of miscarriages caused by low progesterone levels. The addition of prometruim during pregnancy helps ensure that the women will carry the fetus to full-term. It works by helping ensure that a placenta is fully formed thus providing the necessary lifeline for the developing fetus.
Avatar f tn I took prometrium 100mg a day for the first trimester, i stopped taking it last friday so 10 days ago. I have had a migraine every day starting at around noon and lasting until I go to bed. I took prometrium prior to pregnancy for period induction which i took for 10 days and i would get a "withdrawl" migraine for a day or two. Have any of you ladies experienced this?
Avatar f tn Someone please help/ My obgyn prescribed me with prometrium because there was a possibilty that a hormone in my body was low. The same day he prescribed the meds, he ordered some labs and put me on bed rest and had me schedule a follow up in a week. I got the medicine filled at the pharmacy but wasn't exactly comfortable with taking them because my doctor informed me that prometrium is not fda approved. I decided not to take the medication.
Avatar f tn Prometrium should only be used in the first trimester, if your levels are low. For many years women have used progesterone in the first trimester to sustain their pregnancy. For myself mine was at a 15, they like them to be above 20. At 45, I believe that is a very good range for pregnancy and most likely do not need them. Do not take it throughout your entire pregnancy, at that point the risks are unknown.
Avatar f tn t consult the doctor first. But i think is better if you continue taking it until the end of first trimester.
495138 tn?1221217880 any other ladies on Prometrium?? I am almost 5 weeks today I've had 2 miscarriages in the last 7 months and my docotr put me on Prometrium today 100mg suppositories 2 times a day. I really hope this baby stays with me I go for my first scan on June.
Avatar f tn I have been (and am on) Prometrium for my last 4 pg. The 1st and 3rd ended in m/c, but Prometrium won't save a non-viable pg. The pg in between resulted in my 2nd DD who is now 4. The 3rd pg & m/c could have been caused by many things (my hypothyroid, my age, 2 clotting disorders, etc.). After the last m/c I started taking Prometrium from 2DPO and am still on it at 5.5 weeks. My OB says to continue it through 12 weeks.
Avatar f tn I did have a mc before my daughter and it does take at least 8 months for us to get pg in the first place but I have NEVER heard of Prometrium being taken after the first trimester. In fact it is usually NOT recommended during pregnancy since it can lead to birth defect (at least that's what I have found out). I can't contact my doc before wednesday and I am VERY concerned about starting this right away (technically I will be 18 weeks tomorrow, Tuesday).
Avatar f tn Glenda is right, progesterone should be fine if you are pregnant. Many of us take prometrium through first trimester or after ovulation. False positives are uncommon, but I can tell you that the blue dye tests seem to produce them more often then the pink dye. I would see your Dr. for a blood test. I wish you luck!!
760368 tn?1257730989 Hi everyone, I just got a BFP yesterday and had some questions about anyone who has had to take prometrium or progesterone supplements in the 1st trimester. I have had 2 miscarriages within a year and the last one being almost 12 weeks along in January '09 so the Dr. wants to start me on supplements. Is anyone taking them??
1564074 tn?1334490908 Your progesterone is low but good thing is that your DOC has prescribed a support supplement. The prescribed prometrium 100mg 3 x/ day will aid in supporting the pregnancy, especially during the first trimester. Try not to worry; I'm sure you will be fine.
290867 tn?1333569278 Do you mean Prometrium? If so, that is just a progesterone supplement. If you didn't misspell than I am not familiar with that particular drug.
Avatar f tn This is my third pregnancy in a year, for this reason my doctor jumped right on get blood work down three days apart at 4 weeks, an ultrasound at 5 and 7 weeks, and put me on prometrium for the first trimester. All is going well but I have been under the impression that you should have our first appointment with at your doctor at 8weeks.
934644 tn?1245336749 Well I took the extra prometrium around 6:30-7:00 and the pink discharge has seemed to stop. I wonder how long it takes for the prometrium to dissolve and get into your system? Thank you for taking the time to help give me some some!
377493 tn?1356502149 My OB prescribed it knowing absolutely I was pregnant, and has me on it up until the end of the first trimester. Also, it seems the symptoms mimic pregnancy symptoms. Has anybody had a negative outcome using this drug? I know a lot of women on here have talked about being on it. Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn Hi I was wondering if any one took prometrium during their first trimester of their pregnancy? If yes, what were the side affects? I have had one miscarriage at 4 months and I fear I am probably having another one with my second pregnancy I have been prescribed Prometrium and I am just wondering if it has done any good to any one etc. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Am I still in the red zone for miscarriage even though I am practically in the second trimester of my pregnancy? Somebody please help because I am really concerned about what could happen.
1404800 tn?1325726047 I'm 5.5 weeks pregnant and this is my 3rd pregnancy with 100mg progesterone suppositories 1x a night. It may help, won't hurt but will not sustain an unhealthy pregnancy.
Avatar n tn Thank you for responding. When I asked my doctor about testing levels to see if they are stable after weaning off of prometrium (back when I was 15-16 weeks pregnant) he said that they don't normally test for that at my stage of pregnancy and that the results might be too dofficult to interpret. I thought that sounded pretty silly since they'd checked for the same thing at least 3 or 4 times up until week 8. I am so frustrated with this guy...
1301836 tn?1305621815 I am on prometrium vaginally through the first twelve weeks as well and had to take prometrium with my two sons due to low progesterone in the first trimester. With my boys I stayed sick all the time. Just during the first trimester with my first son but the whole pregnancy with my second. This time so far, other than being tired and hungry all the time I really dont feel pregnant.
1328947 tn?1295011446 I found it reassuring that lots of women use progesterone through the first trimester to help support the pregnancy. If your miscarriages are in fact from low progesterone then the prometrium will help. My levels were 13.8 for progesterone. Not sure how much the prometrium helps. I'm actually on something called Crinone which is taken vaginally. I only take it at night but I know that some women take it twice a day. I'm not sick at all either. Just sleepy and a little dizzy.
