My friend mhv ported this earlier. Any thoughts on that. I have always wondered if the suppositories affect the eggs and she thinks that prometrium caps are better. Any thoughts about this ladies?
My RE put me on Crinone gel 8% after my iui--it says on the package that it's 90 mg of progesterone. Does this seem low? Before (with a different dr) I was on 400 prometrium and then switched to 800 mg compounded progesterone in a vaginal suppository. Are the dosages somehow different or am I getting 1/8 what I was before?
I am TTC and taking crinone gel on day 17 until I get my period. I have noticed that I start having some mild cramps around 5 or 6 days after starting the crinone suppositories. Has anyone else noticed this? It seems to be working b/c I am not having mid-cycle spotting anymore and my cycles have gone from 24 days to around 32 days.
Hey girls ~ was told yesterday that having Prometrium prescribed as a suppository was ludicrous ~ that Crinone Gel is mega better and sticks as opposed to the Prometrium which just drips out "because it was made to be taken orally ~ not vaginally ~ and anyone who suggests it is just playing with being a Fertilization Specialist"....
As a preventative measure, my RE prescribed prometrium for me. I was a little squeamish about taking the suppositories so I received the tablet form. I need to take 2 tablets 3x a day.
I'm looking at the bottle right now and I'm a feeling anxious about it. I'm worried about the possible side affects. I'm scared about fooling around with my hormone levels. Please, please tell me I'm being silly.
Does anybody know why it is dropping? I am taking crinone 8% gel twice a day. Please let me know if anybody experienced the same kind of situation.
I switched from a RE in Czech Republic who did my IVF and supplied my progesterone- vaginal suppositories, to a local OBGYN who gave me a further prescription for progesterone in the form of prometrium capsules (the little pink 100mg balls). My prescription says to be taken vaginally, but the info leaflet says to be taken orally.
Can you take the same capsule either orally or vaginally as a suppository?
If your prometrium is the round yellow "soft gel" type pill you can insert it vaginally. I was throwing mine up too and that is what my physician said to do.....it must have worked, I am 24 weeks preggo!!!
There may not be enough progesterone made by the ovary during an IVF cycle, and so more progesterone is routinely given. Crinone vaginal gel, intramuscular progesterone, and Prometrium capsules are natural progesterone preparations which are safe to use during pregnancy. In woman with recurrent pregnancy loss heparin and baby aspirin are helpful to keep open the blood vessels in the placenta. Steroids may also be helpful since they act by inhibiting the cellular immune response.
This one at 3wks 6 days was 37 before starting prometrium however I started spotting especially when trying to go so the dr has me taking prometrium now 3x's a day. Normally I take it 2x's a day 100mg each time. I did find out that too high progesterone levels causes constipation and heart burn which is probably why I now have both.
I was taking vaginal progesterone suppositories 2x/day after my IUIs (Prometrium) and I am taking progesterone gel suppositories 3x/day after my IVF (Crinone gel). Kind of messy, always seeping out, but it's supposed to help... Also, taking baby aspirin is supposed to help prevent miscarriage (conflicting studies here).
I've been doing some research on prometrium . I was prescribed prometrium since the month of Feb. In Feb.,I ovulated with the help of clomid and prometrium. My progesterone levels were 34. In March my cycle never came and I contacted my Dr on Apr. 9 letting her know I never had my cycle. She schedule me to take some test to take . On 14 my cycle visited and was very weird . her instructions for the prometrium is to take on cycle day 16 and continue to take until a cycle comes.
What type of suppositories are you taking? Gel or capsules? I have taken both, and personally I find the gel easier to deal with b/c it seems to be staying in more than the capsules, which would melt and leak out quickly... I did IVF, had my ET over a week ago, and I am incredibly bloated! I put on a close fitted dress to wear this morning, looked in the mirror... and decided to go with looser pants lol :) Welcome and best wishes!
I have it too. Had it all my life. I miscarred five times. Now im 26 weeks and he is a healthy boy. They didnt put me on any extra meds during this. My levels evened out as the baby grew.
Has anyones RE ever discussed possible side effects to the fetus when using progesteron supplementation? I just read the insert for the gel Crinone and it mentions possible cleft palate and abdominal wall malfunctions. My RE didn't seem to know anything about this.
What it didn't give in the insert was whether the difference between those taking Crinone and those not taking it was significant.
p Not sure why they call it gel its thick and creamy! I have definitely noticed alotttttt if discharge milky like! So much so I have to wear a pad! Every where I've read its completely normal! Good luck with your next scan! My next scan is February 3rd! Can't get here fast enough!
