Prometrium for perimenopause

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium for perimenopause

prometrium

864502 tn?1382640699 I was told a couple of months ago that I am going through perimenopause. I have irregular cycles. My 1st cycle was when I was 15 years old. I had one cycle in September and it did not come back the next month. I took birth control pills when I was 16....The 1st set of pills made me gain weight and the 2nd set made me sick. So now my cycles are 2-5 years apart. The last cycle I had was in May 2007.
Avatar f tn It took awhile but it got under control and I now take only 2.5 mg of tapezole per day. I am still testing positive for antibodies so the endocrinologist wants me to continue. Last September I had my "female" hormone levels checked as things with my period were a little whonky - no period for three months and then three in a month. All my levels were within normal range and doc figured perimenopause.
Avatar f tn t had a period for a year. Perimenopause can last up to 10 years, and you do still ovulate during this time, although it is common for your cycles to be irregular. Having an LH surge does not necessarily mean you ovulated. All it tells you is that your body is gearing up to, or attempting to ovulate. Sometimes you won't and then may experience another surge later on in your cycle.
377493 tn?1356502149 t ever remember this happening before. I googled it, and everything came up referencing perimenopause. However, those sites also said only 1% of women will go into perimenopause before 40 (that is only a month and a bit away). I am wondering if this is a side effect of the clomid, prometrium, etc. This is my 4th round of clomid, and I started it day 3 this month instead of day 5 (according to OB orders). Has anyone ever heard of that happening?
Avatar n tn My Dr has prescribed Prometrium 200mgs to be taken for the 1st 5 days of my next period. Everything I have read about this is that it is usually prescribed for 10 days before your period, so I am confused. Also, he mentioned that Prometrium will help protect me from endometrial cancer and possibly breast cancer. I read that it may increase the risk of breast cancer so I am totally confused. Can someone help and offer advice? I am going for a 2nd opinion in December with another Ob/Gyn.
1404364 tn?1289431561 My cycle is nowhere to be seen (not totally uncommon for me) and my last period was in mid-December. My OB was fine with giving me an Rx for BC pills to induce a bleed, but when I called the RE's office, she said that I shouldn't start them and that we will talk about an alternate route at the appt. Now I'm just curious what types of drugs they would put me on? Are there stronger injectibles to induce a period?
688845 tn?1325182236 m curious because I to was put on 200mg vaginaly of prometrium. My hcg was at 23 and I feel thats low. I go back on Monday for a re-draw and count again.
Avatar f tn Everything is going great. I am on baby aspirin a day and 200mg 2x prometrium. its working for me! progesterone does an amazing job at holding pregnancies, and the baby asprin is to thin you blood so more goes to the uterus. This can also help if you have a blood clotting issue. i have never been tested for anything but i wanted to try 1 more time first with these medicines and i believe its really helping me.
Avatar f tn I've been doing some research on prometrium . I was prescribed prometrium since the month of Feb. In Feb.,I ovulated with the help of clomid and prometrium. My progesterone levels were 34. In March my cycle never came and I contacted my Dr on Apr. 9 letting her know I never had my cycle. She schedule me to take some test to take . On 14 my cycle visited and was very weird . her instructions for the prometrium is to take on cycle day 16 and continue to take until a cycle comes.
Avatar f tn After being on synthetic estrogen (Enjuvia) for many months and not feeling well at all, I finally found myself a better doctor who listened to my symptoms and put me on the Vivelle Dot patch (bioidentical estradiol), .075 I've been on that for about 3 weeks now, maybe 4. Anyway, just 4 days ago, I also started on bioidentical progesterone, 50 mg, in the form of a capsule that I take orally. My question is this: can this progesterone cause one's appetite to increase dramatically??
Avatar n tn I have been on prometrium for 6 months and have found it has helped me sleep as well as with the hot flashes, I take 200mg before I go to bed. The doctor suggested I try cutting it back to 100mg but the insomnia came back so I am back on the higher dose. I now just get the odd night sweat and hardly any hot flashes during the day. It took about three weeks for it to work for me so it's probably worth sticking with.
594293 tn?1222655980 lightheadedness (sometimes it lasts for days), feeling jittery or nervous, mood swings, chills, nausea, change in appetite and bowel habits, irregular periods (still monthly though).....that's the majority of it. It had not even occurred to me that it could be perimenopause until a few weeks ago. I went for blood work yesterday so I won't hear results until next week.

Avatar n tn ve been having ovulation pain for the last 3 years or so - 2/3 days of cramping in mid cycle and then again just before my period started. I thought this might mean I'm perimenopausal, since change is the cycle may precede menopause by several years. In the last few months, the pains became stronger and they cramping lasts longer, sometimes from ovulation until menstruation, sometime accompanied by nausea. Occasionally I'd feel a twinge of pain in one of my ovaries.
Avatar f tn I'm 44 and have been very irregular with my periods for the last few years. I'm on the pill (Yaz) and never miss any. I'm still irregular on the pill even though my GYN put me on it to try and regulate me. I sometimes get my period during the "active" pills and not during the "inactive" pills. My cycle would last anywhere from 3 days to 14 days and would be very light to severe. The last day of my last period was May 1st. I haven't had a period since then.
Avatar f tn after 30 odd years of having 1 or 2 periods a year due to pcos, i have been having a period every 18 days for the last 9 months. Im also having bad headaches and bad palpitations too (worse before my period), the thing is, ive had the usual heart test and hormones checked and all is normal! How would pcos afect my hormones and does it make a difference in perimenopause?
490183 tn?1361213953 Yes, Prometrium does delay your AF. First time when i was on prometrium, i didn't get my AF until CD40.
377493 tn?1356502149 I have always been a 28 day girl. For as long as I have been tracking ovulation, I o around day 13 or 14. Some of you know from my last post that I have started having strong symptoms around ovulation...sore breasts, bloating, crabby..lol, etc. This month those symptoms lasted right up until I got AF. Today is cycle day 3, they went away yesterday completely. I know this is due to increased progesterone, but am wondering if you think it might be a symptom of perimenopause.
Avatar f tn I think that I am into my first year of Perimenopause that I have experiences with all Symptoms. Did anyone like me as the first year going through it? It seems aging has its price. I would like to exchange notes with people like me so perhaps we could share better tips to deal with it together. As Perimenopause may cause bone lost so I am trying to add in some Vitamin, did anyone take some Vitaman to prevent bone lost?
Avatar f tn I was in prometrium 200mg once a day with my 3rd pregnancy..and still i m/c at 17&1/2 weeks.. and i stopped taking the prometrium at my 15&1/2weeks( i should only take them for 12 weeks, but my dr told me to continued the left pills..) still don't know the reason why,, if it's bec. i stopped taking the progesterone supplement or there is some thing else..
Avatar f tn I do not know what to give you advise, but the best is call your doctor and ask for their opinion. I think if prometrium helps, then dr will keep you on the med. call them and ask them. update with us.
