Prometrium for fibroids

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium for fibroids

prometrium

Avatar f tn Should I still take the prometrium? Is it time to look for another RE? What should I do next??? My clock is ticking and it's keeping me up at night. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Fibroids and polyps are almost always benign (~99%) so hysterectomy would be overkill. And hysterectomy causes lifelong harm. I call it the surgery that keeps on giving... problem after problem... even if the ovaries are "preserved." Intercourse or pelvic exams can cause polyps to bleed. And if they aren't removed at the base, they can recur and cause heavy bleeding. What were the reasons for the D&C's - as part of the polyp removal or was your lining too thick?
Avatar n tn Hi , If you are in so much pain I would not wait a month, I would go back to my doctor and explain how you are feeling , If you feel like you aren,t being taken seriously then it may be time to look for another doctor !!! . If things get too bad you should go to ER , they will at least be able to give you some pain relief .
Avatar f tn I stopped the Prometrium for 10 days and MY BLEEDING STOPPED ENTIRELY so it has to be the Prometrium. I know I need progesterone as still have my uterus but am I the only one that is seeing this happen? I was told by Sott Pelle providers that a women minimally needs progesterone 14 days every third month. Can someone tell me their experience with this?
Avatar f tn Thanks for replying. I had a recent pelvic exam and everything seemed fine. Shorty after my initial post, I went back on the Vivelle-Dot and had only mild spotting after three weeks. That week I had forgotten to change my patch for several hours after I should have. So the Vivelle -Dot seems to have alleviated the symptoms. The difference in cost for me is $120 versus $20 for a 3-month mail-order prescription.
Avatar f tn I had an ultrasound that showed something funny in the lining of the uterus as well as some fibroids and a cyst. I was referred to a gyn for further investigation. She booked a hysterscopy. Meanwhile, while waiting for the test, I had a period in January and then nothing. In March I started having hot flashes - they came on suddenly and violently and I was probably having 50 or so a day. Doc ran thyroid levels and they were fine and then checked my female hormones. My fsh came back at 112.
Avatar n tn My Dr has prescribed Prometrium 200mgs to be taken for the 1st 5 days of my next period. Everything I have read about this is that it is usually prescribed for 10 days before your period, so I am confused. Also, he mentioned that Prometrium will help protect me from endometrial cancer and possibly breast cancer. I read that it may increase the risk of breast cancer so I am totally confused. Can someone help and offer advice? I am going for a 2nd opinion in December with another Ob/Gyn.
1404364 tn?1289431561 My cycle is nowhere to be seen (not totally uncommon for me) and my last period was in mid-December. My OB was fine with giving me an Rx for BC pills to induce a bleed, but when I called the RE's office, she said that I shouldn't start them and that we will talk about an alternate route at the appt. Now I'm just curious what types of drugs they would put me on? Are there stronger injectibles to induce a period?
Avatar f tn ) My doctor believes that the fibroids will continue to grow (most likely, but they are growing slowly) and could become cancerous(not usual for fibroids) or necrotic. He says while in for the laparoscopy for the ovarian cyst and ovary, I could have my uterus out and leave the left ovary. But he says if I wait, will later have to have a cut-down instead, which is of course much longer in recovery. I'm seeing my D.O.
688845 tn?1325182236 m curious because I to was put on 200mg vaginaly of prometrium. My hcg was at 23 and I feel thats low. I go back on Monday for a re-draw and count again.
Avatar f tn Everything is going great. I am on baby aspirin a day and 200mg 2x prometrium. its working for me! progesterone does an amazing job at holding pregnancies, and the baby asprin is to thin you blood so more goes to the uterus. This can also help if you have a blood clotting issue. i have never been tested for anything but i wanted to try 1 more time first with these medicines and i believe its really helping me.
Avatar f tn I've been doing some research on prometrium . I was prescribed prometrium since the month of Feb. In Feb.,I ovulated with the help of clomid and prometrium. My progesterone levels were 34. In March my cycle never came and I contacted my Dr on Apr. 9 letting her know I never had my cycle. She schedule me to take some test to take . On 14 my cycle visited and was very weird . her instructions for the prometrium is to take on cycle day 16 and continue to take until a cycle comes.
Avatar f tn I am 51 and haven't had a period for 5 months. Three years ago I had UAE for fibroids causing severe bleeding. Suddenly, several weeks ago I started having burning pain which sometimes went into my lower back. It was discovered I had a 7 cm fibroid. I have no bleeding at all this time. My GYN wants to do a vaginal hysterectomy but I was wondering if I could have another UAE instead. OR...
Avatar n tn I have been on prometrium for 6 months and have found it has helped me sleep as well as with the hot flashes, I take 200mg before I go to bed. The doctor suggested I try cutting it back to 100mg but the insomnia came back so I am back on the higher dose. I now just get the odd night sweat and hardly any hot flashes during the day. It took about three weeks for it to work for me so it's probably worth sticking with.
Avatar n tn a small cyst was found in addition to 2 fibroids and some fluid in the uterus. I was told also that I could monitor the cyst for a few months, but my Dr. did want to check on the fibroids since, after menopause they really aren't usually "there".. So , in my case menopause didn't do a thing to the fibroids. Now, they were small and she actually just left them. But usually it is a concern in patients our age ...
490183 tn?1361213953 Yes, Prometrium does delay your AF. First time when i was on prometrium, i didn't get my AF until CD40.
Avatar f tn I was in prometrium 200mg once a day with my 3rd pregnancy..and still i m/c at 17&1/2 weeks.. and i stopped taking the prometrium at my 15&1/2weeks( i should only take them for 12 weeks, but my dr told me to continued the left pills..) still don't know the reason why,, if it's bec. i stopped taking the progesterone supplement or there is some thing else..
Avatar f tn I do not know what to give you advise, but the best is call your doctor and ask for their opinion. I think if prometrium helps, then dr will keep you on the med. call them and ask them. update with us.
Avatar n tn A hysterectomy is a pretty big deal and your reproductive organs are important for life long health. I would opt for the myomectomy to remove the fibroids and see how that works. You can always go in for a hysterectomy later if you need one, but can't undo a hysterectomy once it's done. So, I would start with the smallest procedure first. I am no expert and do not have fibroids, but I do have issues with cysts and endometriosis.
637951 tn?1257270344 I took Prometrium for 10 days ending Saturday, and I was wondering how long until I should begin my period? I am so ready to be able to start TTC!!
