Prometrium and metformin

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium and metformin

prometrium

Avatar n tn I am on 200 mg prometrium /5 mg estradiol, and metformin as well as tirosint. The prometrium and estradiol is for hot flashes. The metformin for prediabetes, couldn't get my a1c down, and tirosint for thyroid disease. My question is this...the prometrium and estradiol are causing my blood sugars to stay high, as well as make me very tired, as well as making me gain weight. I walk briskly at least 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour daily. I watch what I eat, low sugars, etc.
Avatar f tn Well, I have pcos too and my doctor put me on metformin 500mg three times a day and prometrium 200mg twice a day for 10 days each month. The metformin is good for me insulin levels and working with the prometrium my periods have come back after years of not having one. If your periods aren't coming and you're not ovulating it's so hard to have a baby. Ask your doc about putting you on metformin and prometrium or clomid. :) Good luck!
Avatar f tn Gave up all hope quit all meds got divorced lost 60lbs found someone new told him we would never have kids i was preg 8 mnths later rushed to a high risk obgyn had every test in the world done found out i dont produce enough progesterone gave me vaginal prometrium i have a healthy 11mnth old son. I am also currently 11wks preg on prometrium again praying all works this time as this is my last one im getting to old now.
Avatar f tn But if you have PCOS, then you should of been on Metformin as taking metformin up till in some 12 weeks and others 19 weeks...that helps to reduce the chances of m/c. Congrats on your pregnancy.
1404364 tn?1289431561 m wondering though if provera is essentially the same as Prometrium? I know Prometrium is more of a natural progesterone and Provera is synthetic, but I have already done 10 days of prometrium and no period came. Ugh...so frustrating! I have not been diagnosed, but I have heard of Metformin. Of the symptoms of PCOS, the only one I have is the absense of a cycle. I will for sure ask about it...it's worth a shot!
Avatar f tn I am 9 weeks pregnant (thank God) and I was taking metformin to control insulin levels and hormone levels. I got pregnant four months after starting the metformin treatment. Because I had a miscarriage last year. They put me on prometrium. As soon as I found out I was pregnant. I went to get my HCG and progesteron checked. it was HCG 130 and progesterone 45.8 which is good. But they put me on it just in case.
1627189 tn?1300655664 I was also on Clomid+Metformin+Prometrium. 15 dpo I would have a preg test, if it was negative then I would stop taking prometrium and after 2-3 days af would show up.
Avatar f tn Anyone else taking meds while pregnant, such as Metformin (Glucophage) or Prometrium (progesterone)?! When were you told you could stop? I'll be running out of Metformin in a few days (I'll be over 11 weeks so not worried about it) and I was going to take the Prometrium up until week 12 (April 7th) but not sure if I should. Should I stop now? I don't want to stop and then miscarry because I didn't hold out another week.
Avatar f tn A very good friend of mine ( and mother of 3 ) had PCOS and is quite thin and fit--she has a lovely complexion too. If you were my patient, the first thing I would do is to (after checking the pregnancy test which I ALWAYS do ) treat you with 5 days of Prometrium. This medication should start your period and "clean out" your uterus. Then, I would start you on Metformin and Femara.
Avatar f tn I finally got my period in April and it is lat agan. I was on metformin to get my periods going, but it upset my stopmach. My dr. just put me on Prometrium 200mg at bedtime with hope to get my period. Has anyone taken this for similar reason and what was your outcome? We are trying to get pregnant.
Avatar f tn But I was recently just diagnosed with PCOS. I was put on the metformin and nothing changed and I still have not had a period. I actually haven't had one in 3 years. Ive been loosing hope on having a baby and this has become very fustrating for me. Any advice?
Avatar n tn My husband and I started trying for another child a year and a half ago. We found out in February that I have PCOS and I was started on Metformin. Well, I just found out last Sunday, July 12th, that I am pregnant. I called my doctor right away and he had me come in for blood tests. The results showed that my hcg was doubling like it should be, up to 3000+ at 5 weeks, but my progesterone level is a 5. He told me he wants it to be at least 11.
Avatar f tn I have pcos and have been on Metformin for almost a year. On Friday the 26th day before IUI she gave me a shot to ovulate and she told me on the 28th that I did ovulate. On Monday the 8th my Dr. called me and said that my progesterone level was 25,but I am not sure what this means and would tomorrow be a good day to take a HPT? I have also been on Prometrium since March 3rd, one pill vaginally at bed time.
Avatar f tn I take metformin and I too am not insulin resistant. It works with me. It has helped me to lose weight and keep most of it off.
Avatar f tn t have any mature folicles. this is my first month with clomid and metformin together. hopefully my last..my doctor said if i don't ovulate this cycle she will switch my meds, i think injections are next.
992128 tn?1364371742 t do it for me. and to clear things up it may not be a direct action of metformin but as kelsey829 said metformin can bring on a period by hormone regulation, and recent studies show that in women with PCOS metformin is MORE effective at inducing ovulation (by hormone regulation) than clomid! ok sorry that rant is done.
Avatar f tn So far i have gained 15 in 8 months, from clomid and prometrium. like this isn't hard enough already you have to add weight gain. Since i started metformin i have lost 5 at least.
1582478 tn?1296591223 ok metformin will not get you pregnant! And it only relly helps you stay pregnant. It also helps with some symptoms from PCOS. It can also take over a year to start working. Clomid will help you ovulate. It doesnt always work for everyone with PCOS but it does work for alot of women. It didnt work for me. I was taking metformin 500mg 3 times a day. I was also taking provera to help me get a period so I know when my new cycle starts. And than my dr had me on clomid.
Avatar f tn ve had off and on cramping for 9 days, a little in the morning, little in the afternoon and a little at night. They only last a few seconds and I occasionaly get a sharp shooting pain. I noticed that on day 3 of my provera, my CM was very stretchy...that NEVER happens!! So i'm wondering if maybe by some chance I ovulated while on Provera. I called the dr. and she said to wait 14 days, if I haven't started by then, I needed to be seen. Is this normal?? It's driving me crazy.
1053407 tn?1352030371 Now that you mention it I did on my last IUI cycle but I have no idea why. What meds are you on? I was on Metformin, Prometrium, Prenatals and Baby Aspirin.
Avatar n tn I got up in the night, felt dizzy, as if i was going to pass out, everything went black and i saw spots infront of my eyes. I think my blood pressure was low, and after reading the side effects of metformin i stopped taking them. I did a pregnancy test 2 days after i was due on but got a neg. I feel tired, have headaches, and still feel dizzy. Has anyone else had this?
Avatar f tn Ask your doctor about getting an ultrasound to determine if you have any cysts. Do you take any meds for your pcos? I take Metformin and bcp (birth control pills).
514184 tn?1224588608 suppository (I cannot remember the name of that one). I am now on prometrium and was wondering the same thing. I am not even sure when AF should come. My cycles are 27 days apart and I am on cd23, however, ovulation was induced and I ovulated on cd11. So, I am not sure if I am supposed to start AF by Friday, Sunday, or even earlier since they induced ovulation. Who knows!
Avatar f tn I took it through the first trimester and my baby was/is fine (11 months old now). I also took 200mg prometrium and probably 3g of folic acid. What I read was that synthetic progesterone is what is not safe during pregnancy but prometrium is the natural form and it is safe for pregnant women.
898040 tn?1284036509 sobbing cries. I am taking prenatals, paxil, metformin and provera. I have taken the first 3 before and never had this...so I am assuming it's the Provera?? and possibly the quitting smoking??? argh...
Avatar f tn Right now im on prometrium to induced this 70 day cycle and then I start metformin. Once all the testing is done i'll be going to see my RE and talking about possible fertility treatments to induce ovulation. Ive heard clomid is good, other says femera is better. Id like to know all your opinions. And also I did ovulate on my own and had a normal-ish cycle in june it was 39 days and ovulated on CD 27. Is that somewhat a good sign? And could metformin alone possibly help me ovulate?
Avatar f tn Your problems are nearly identical to mine, and I do have a 2 year old son. I got pregnant by luck, according to my dr. We didn't realize I had signs of PCOS and annovulation, until I've been trying to get pregnant the second time. I too had ovarian cysts at 17 and was on the pill until I was 24, and got pregnant pretty quickly after we started trying. This time I've been off the pill since Feb, and it's been frustrating.
1597794 tn?1297382028 I seen a OBGYN and he put me on Provera, Clomid, and Metformin. I started Provera and Metformin on 1/15/2011. On 2/7 AF still hadn't showed her face. I called my OBGYN and he told me if AF hadn't shown by 2/9 to take a HPT and if it was negative to start taking clomid. On 2/9 the HPT was negative. I am on my second day of clomid today. My OBGYN said it was possible but not likely to get preggos this month. My question is has anyone else went thru this and conceived without having AF?
