Also, he mentioned that Prometrium will help protect me from endometrial cancer and possibly breast cancer. I read that it may increase the risk of breast cancer so I am totally confused.
Can someone help and offer advice? I am going for a 2nd opinion in December with another Ob/Gyn. Thanks.
Avoid it if you have ever had a blood-clotting disorder or a stroke. Do not take Prometrium if you have a history of breast or genital cancer, heart attack, unexplained vaginal bleeding, or severe liver disease.
I always get tender breasts after ovulation when progesterone goes up. Prometrium is a synthetic progesterone, so that can cause breast tenderness in and of itself...and then, if you ovulated, the follicles you had will produce progesterone, as well...so the levels are most probably much higher for you this cycle than normal. It should subside at the end of the cycle.
I have been on prometrium for 6 months and have found it has helped me sleep as well as with the hot flashes, I take 200mg before I go to bed. The doctor suggested I try cutting it back to 100mg but the insomnia came back so I am back on the higher dose. I now just get the odd night sweat and hardly any hot flashes during the day. It took about three weeks for it to work for me so it's probably worth sticking with.
so this is when I was reffered to my fourth doctor, who told me that he thinks because of my family history (two great aunts died from breast cancer) stopping ttc would be in my best interest. he said the increased estrogen from pregnancy could cause another more serious mass. So my options are keep trying and monitor closely for breast cancer, a double mastectomy, or adoption.
Some get their periods anyway, but other have to stop taking prometrium before AF shows. They usually tell you to take it until you take a pregnancy test, then if positive, you'll continue to take it, and if negative, you'll stop. Best of luck!
All biopsies no signs of cancer, pre-cancer or hyperplasia. I bled heavily and was so anxious that I felt paranoid. I came off of it mid-March of this year. Now the gynecologist wants me to take it again for 14 days every 3 months to produce a shedding of the lining until my estrogen levels normally drop. My family doc gave me a prescription for Prometrium (200 mgs) because I was terrified of taking the Provera again due to side effects and heavy bleeding.
It just finished my last pill on Sat, so now a waiting game. A friend took prometrium for 5 days and had her period 4 days after she took her last pill. Heard it can take up to a week?
This is only my 2nd month with RE and 1st time I'm taking any type of meds besides BC. Then RE said she's going to put me on Estrace one my cycle comes? I'm hoping for the best? We also are trying to get pregnant. Isn't so frustrating!

I was prescribed prometrium and this is my second month. This month I used an ovulator kit and BD on the right days and took prometrium as soon as I ovulated, so why am I not pregnant. I have all the symptoms; but this can also be prometrium side effects. I really do not believe that I am pregnant because I have not experienced any spotting. I am SO frustrated. Has anyone gone through the same experience?
I had 2 miscarriages in the past and with this one i went on prometrium and baby aspirin although nothing was ever diagnosed either. i did not experience any bleeding as a side effect of the prometrium though. have you had a scan yet?
I had an IUI a few weeks ago and then started taking prometrium for ten days. I finished up last Wednesday so it has been 5 days. How long until I should expect my period after my last prometrium?
I have never engaged in any sexual activities and do not understand how I got this disease. I took Prometrium in the past to regulate my menstruate cycle. I did some research on this drug and one of side effects for this drug is Herpes. Is it possible this medicine could cause a false positive or a positive blood results for Herpes Type 2?
I went through an ovulation induction cycle and was put on prometrium (progesterone) to support a healthy lining. I am now 20 days past ovulation, no period, and three negative home pregnancy tests (it is now day 33 of my cycle and I am typically a 28 day cycle, like clockwork). I talked to the doctor today who told me to stop the prometrium and I should expect my period in 2-3 days.

I have had a migraine every day starting at around noon and lasting until I go to bed. I took prometrium prior to pregnancy for period induction which i took for 10 days and i would get a "withdrawl" migraine for a day or two. Have any of you ladies experienced this? I'm really getting sick of taking tylenol every 4 hours but my head throbs so bad i can't see straight if i don't. I called my doc today and of course he's out of the office.

I had laproscopic surgery to get rid of it and was then on prometrium to raise my progesterone level and clomid to aid in ovulation and conception. Clomid is pms x1000. It makes you feel very crabby, headaches and your breast hurt. My husband said, how are we going to have sex when you are acting like a *****!
It took 3 months to conceive once I had surg. and was on meds.

Biopsy pathology said: Insitu and invasiave well differentiated carcinoma with mixed features of ductal and lobular differentiation.
