920032 tn?1550680156 I sympathize with your issues on finding meds that work. I also cannot take the dry powders. The technique for using them is different than other inhalers. If your doctor didn't train you well on how to use them, that could be part of the problem you had. Also, the fact that they are powder and the powder settles on the vocal cords and other parts of the respiratory tract causes irritation. That makes me cough constantly as well.
Avatar m tn my doctor prescribed me "proair hfa albuterol sulfate", "atrovent hfa ipratropium bromide , and "qvar beclomethasone diproionate hfa" will this go away on its own eventually?
Avatar n tn You and he/she will have to resort to other preparations, to include a different inhaled steroid, such as Flovent® HFA Inhalation Aerosol (fluticasone propionate), either alone or in combination with a long-acting bronchodilator, like Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate) or Foradil® Aerolizer™ (formoterol fumarate inhalation powder), such a combination being either Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol or Symbicort® (budesonide/formoterol fumarat
Avatar f tn Advair is only a maintence drug which will only help you over time but it is not an emergency inhaler (like ventolin or proair). Advair if not taken as prescribed can make things worse and can make you very ill. Please never take more than the 4 puffs per day. Anxiety can do really bizarre things to people. It can make you feel like you are sufficating.
Avatar n tn Beta-blockers can be contraindicated with asthma..but I have asthma too and have been on atenolol (a beta-blocker) for 7 years. I'm not familiar with either of the meds you are on, but I take an inhaled steroid daily for my asthma and albutero (now Proair) for breakthrough asthma. The Proair affects my PVC's and PAC's. I also believe my hormones make my heart palps a lot worse. Cycle time for me is an absolute nightmare. As Jerry said, you should see about getting a monitor.
Avatar m tn Ventolin is a rescue inhaler, it is used when you have asthmatic episodes. For prevention steroid inhalers are effective. For Prevention Steroid inhalers are used regularly for prevention of attacks. The steroid content is very low in an inhaler and only acts locally. Use will prevent the causative allergens from triggering an attack. Repeated cold with nasal blockage can trigger attacks. Keep the nostrils clear of blockages by using nasal drops.
Avatar f tn They did blood tests for blood clots, blood cell counts and so one as well as a breathing treatment, an IV steroid and a chest xray. Everything came back normal and clear so they diagnosed me with bronchitis and gave me prednisone and proair inhaler. This morning I woke up with a pain in my upper back, around shoulder blade, still hard time breathing deep breaths and an excruciating headache.
Avatar m tn In August of last year, my 10 year old son developed pneumonia. From that day on, a severe cough would show itself about every two weeks. We would take him to the doctor and would be told; it’s the croup, it’s the croup and my son would be prescribed prednisone. This went on until February of this year, when my wife and I asked the doctor to check for some other problem… he diagnosed him with asthma and acid-reflux. He was placed on two inhalers..
Avatar n tn Pediatrician prescribed proair with chamber for my 5 yr old. She a nagging cough since a bout of bronchitus this past Christmas. Gave her 2 puffs at 1pm. Now at4:35 pm she has been coughing nonstop.
Avatar f tn Two that would not affect your heart rate would be an inhaled steroid, such as Flovent® HFA Inhalation Aerosol (fluticasone propionate) or another medicine taken by mouth Singulair® (montelukast sodium). You should ask your doctor about these. Good luck.
Avatar n tn are you able to get combivent... my doc changed from combivent to Proair which has only one ingredient Albuterol Sulfate...I understand that in July 2013 Combivent will no longer be available...
212161 tn?1599427282 I have QVAR (beclomethasone) that is a steroid. The quick relief inhalers like albuterol will have an adrenergic effect and cause the heart rate to increase temporarily. My HR increase usually lasts about 15 minutes. I see that Flovent and Advair are both steroidal inhalers.
Avatar m tn The wrong technique increase the amount of steroid that gets into the symstem. If you use any HFA version of any med without a spacer, only about 20% of the medication gets to the lungs. The rest gets into the general system. If you are using a dry powder inhaler like the Advair Discus or Asmanex Twisthaler, the proper inhalation rate is essential. Have your doctor check your technique to make your medication as effective as possible. I hope that helps. God bless.
Avatar f tn After 2 breathing treatments and a steroid shot, the doctor diagnosed him with asthma. Now I am staring at several different medications and thinking 'Now what do we do?!'. Does any parents have any advice for me of how to handle this and what to watch out for with my son? He's on Advair, which is suppose to control his symptoms, ProAir inhaler, Prednisone, and Albuterol. It seems like a lot, but considering how awful it was this morning I know it's necessary.
178698 tn?1228774338 I told this to the PA and she did end up giving me a script. So I am taking Singulair and Advair and occassionally Proair. I realize there are risks with all medicines during pregnancy , but asthma is very common. How dangerous are these meds during pregnancy. Without them I just can't breathe. I rarely take the Proair...that's rescue inhaler.
Avatar f tn P i was prescribed a proair. Just looking ahead for future reference I rarely use it.
Avatar f tn allergiest. lung doctor i am not sure. i take proair and it only works for 2 hours. i feel like i just need to sit in my condo and do nothing because it is embarassing when i can't walk to go to an event because i need to stop and calm my body down (throat tightens).
Avatar f tn In July I thought I was having allergy problems. Turned out to be pneumonia. I thought I was ok after meds. Then I had a really bad asthma attack. I did not know what was happening. Really bad coughing and hard to breathe. Went to ER and they gave me breathing meds. I saw an allergist yesterday and he put me on Adviair and Proair. I haven't had the Proair prescriptioin filled yet as I still have proventil. Sorry to ramble on.
Avatar n tn You are correct in wanting to wait until you have achieved optimum benefit from the Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol, before any consideration of oxygen use. The Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol may raise your saturation, to a degree that will make oxygen use unnecessary.
