920032 tn?1550680156 I sympathize with your issues on finding meds that work. I also cannot take the dry powders. The technique for using them is different than other inhalers. If your doctor didn't train you well on how to use them, that could be part of the problem you had. Also, the fact that they are powder and the powder settles on the vocal cords and other parts of the respiratory tract causes irritation. That makes me cough constantly as well.
Avatar f tn Advair is only a maintence drug which will only help you over time but it is not an emergency inhaler (like ventolin or proair). Advair if not taken as prescribed can make things worse and can make you very ill. Please never take more than the 4 puffs per day. Anxiety can do really bizarre things to people. It can make you feel like you are sufficating.
Avatar f tn salbutamol is generic ventolin. So don't worry, you are getting the correct mediation.
Avatar n tn Hello Terrikatt, It states you posted your comments 16 hours ago. I think it's time to get a second opinion. Don't know what proair is. I'm guessing it's an asthma medication. Asthma as you know can get quite serious. Perhaps you should seek medical attention for your daughter. By this I don't mean taking her back to the pediatrician. I think you might consider going to your nearest hospital and going to the emergency department.
290867 tn?1333569278 t exhibiting any symptoms of asthma such as wheezing which is characteristic of an asthma attack which is why you would take the albuterol as a rescue measure. The flovent is a steroidal medication I believe and it is used to prevent an attack HOWEVER I truly do not think you were having asthma attacks (the coughing and losing breath) perhaps it is bronchitis but doesn't sound like that either. Sounds like he was too quick to push the asthma diagnosis.
Avatar n tn Is there a significant difference between using an albuterol inhaler as opposed to a Combivent inhaler? I have a family member that receives an extra monthly Combivent inhaler but am not sure if it is safe to use long term instead of the albuterol I was prescribed.
Avatar n tn ve lived in the same town my whole life and no change in living conditions. My doctor prescribed me Pro Air HFA. Immediately I was using it more than the recommended amounts. It makes me very jittery and makes my hands shake. When I came in I was told to keep using it and then prescribed Qvar. The Qvar gave me debilitating headaches. I've since stopped taking both but the headaches and shaking still continue.
178698 tn?1228774338 I also take Advair diskus which is category C. In any event a couple years ago my OB said all asthma medications are fine to take during pregnancy. I told this to the PA and she did end up giving me a script. So I am taking Singulair and Advair and occassionally Proair. I realize there are risks with all medicines during pregnancy , but asthma is very common. How dangerous are these meds during pregnancy. Without them I just can't breathe. I rarely take the Proair...
Avatar f tn P i was prescribed a proair. Just looking ahead for future reference I rarely use it.
Avatar f tn You are sufferring from chronic bronchitis. Proair is fine. But that won't solve your problem. You need to start a course of antibiotics. Start with Capsule amoxyclav (1 capsule 3 times a day for 2 weeks). Take 1 tablet cetrizine twice daily fro 2 weeks. The, you can start using ADVAIR once daily. But, it will be advisable to consult a pulmonologist.
Avatar f tn In July I thought I was having allergy problems. Turned out to be pneumonia. I thought I was ok after meds. Then I had a really bad asthma attack. I did not know what was happening. Really bad coughing and hard to breathe. Went to ER and they gave me breathing meds. I saw an allergist yesterday and he put me on Adviair and Proair. I haven't had the Proair prescriptioin filled yet as I still have proventil. Sorry to ramble on.
Avatar n tn Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive disease that will slowly worsen. There is evidence to suggest that the regular use of AdvairĀ® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol may slow the progression. The best way to slow progression is smoking cessation. The rate of loss of lung tissue in COPD is roughly 3 times as fast for smokers as it is for those who quit. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Ive been in and out of the hospital for muscle pains(undiagnosed) chest pains(undiagnosed) epididimydus, ortitus and hormone deficiencies, im on dilaudid, oxycontin, valium, cortisone, protonix, doxycycline, and levafloxacin, flovent, pulmacort, proair, my resting heart rate is anywhere between 65-80 and right now its dropping to 53 and if i get close to sleep even lower ive been bed riddin and sick will i wake up if i fall asleep or will my heart stop im not in good physical condition i havent even b
Avatar m tn And the other day it actually made my symptoms A LOT worse (I could barley breath for the whole evening and felt pressure). Is there a reason for all of this or should I just switch brands?
959034 tn?1253671476 Is there an alternative to daily Prednisone for treatment of severe asthma?
Avatar n tn What will happen if you don't rinse your mouth out after you use the Proventil HFA inhaler?
212161 tn?1599427282 ia a xopenex hfa 45mcg is this a steroid inhaler
Avatar m tn He told me my results were consistent with asthma and prescribed me Advair while also using Proair for relief. Its been one week and the Advair hasnt made my symptoms any better. Im starting to wonder if I have something other than asthma. Any thoughts/advice/feedback? Thank you in advance.
Avatar n tn In the past two years I have been diagnosed twice with bronchitis and have been treated with antibiotics and an Albuterol Suffate inhaler (generic name Ventolin HFA 90MCG) both of which have provided relief. I am reluctant to take antibiotics but sometimes you just have to.
Avatar n tn I had just filled the inhaler (ProAir HFA) at CVS so I figured I would try it. I am so frsutrated I feel like theres nothing else I can do. It seems to work. while walking through the Mall I felt like I could breath. i felt like fresh air was getting into my chest. Its been weeks. I think it helps to open the air way but I still was coughing. Just not as much. Right now Im at home and the cough is bad again. I tried the inhaler an hour or so ago and it doesnt really seem to help.
746512 tn?1388807580 Symbicort has a counter, too. When it gets to the yellow area time to refill prescription...haha. I've also had problems because my Proair was low. I agree that rescue inhalers should have counters...people don't have running tallies in their head as to how much they've used. If Symbicort and Advair have them, I don't see why Proair, Proventil, etc can't. It doesn't make sense to me, either.
Avatar f tn If yes and you are using a dry powder inhaler - you may be like me and react to the lactose they use as the carrier molecule to get the medication into your lungs. Advair HFA, alvesco and any HFA inhalers are lactose free. Puli org, symbicort, any disk inhalers or rotatable ones a Have lactose in them. I did have to fight to get my doctor to believe me and switch my inhaler but proved it once I was off for a few months - improved and then did spirometry before and after taking symbicort ...
