prilosec vs prilosec otc

I been taken prilosec otc for 14 days for heart burn.its the best med out there.so i finished the 14 day trial and i dont have heart burn any more but i still feel a little small burn so i asked a pharmacyst if its safe to take more than 14 days she said yes it is but the resson the box sais to consult a doctor is to make sure its not self medicated .

maybe a little weight loss. Omeprazole (Prilosec or Zegerid) causes me all kinds of problems. Headache, chest pain, red/irritated eyes, all kinds of body aches, constipation and extreme thrist. Problem is...protonix is by script only and VERY EXPENSIVE! Someone talk to me about this. Has anyone else experienced these problems with Omeprazole?

I have been taking Prilosec OTC and my Doctor prescribed Nexium. It seems to me that they are the same, with one being extremely cheaper. I am Beginning my fifth month of pregnancy and I would like to know if it is safe to continue taking prilosec otc.

Anyone with HepC taking 20 mg. of Prilosec? My dr. said ok to take, but I'd feel better if anyone else is/has used it. Either a prescription or OTC.

I was very restless and anxious and the warnings were to quit it immediately if I experienced those symptoms. So, my OB put me on Prilosec OTC this week----I have read pros and cons on line.....anyone else out there have an opinion?

I take prilosec otc. Doc said it's ok and no amount of tums, milk, water anything else worked. Prilosec started working the next day!

I've been taking Prilosec for a month now, it started helping but then stopped. Then when I went to my doctor Thursday, she switched me to Protonix. If they are basically the same, could Protonix work for me if Prilosec OTC didn't? I'd really like to know because I've had this problem for almost 3 months now and I'm tired of eating plain food.

The doctor wound up having me take Prilosec OTC. It was the only thing that worked for me. My daughter suffered from horrible acid reflux from birth until she outgrew it at 18 months. I know genetics play a huge role in acid reflux...but I always wondered if having to use Prilosec during pregnancy caused part of my daughter's reflux? I am only 12 weeks and already have heartburn...I'm suffering but scared to even use Tums!

The prilosec OTC may not be the same dosage or strength a Dr might RX. Ask ur pharmacist what u may do as far as dosage. Don't forget dairy can slow ur LES..... and that bacteria can cause alot of these issues too...ask to be checked for H.Pylori.

I am freaking out here, I told my OB at my 12 week appointment that I am getting horrible heartburn and that nothing helps. He gave me a script to prilosec OTC and told me it was safe to take every day. I have not been taking it everyday but I have taken it a couple times a week since then. Well, I just looked online and it is a category C drug and is not to be used during pregnancy especially not before 20 weeks. I am only 17 weeks and have been taking it since week 12!

I too have GERD, and I take the same medication as you. I have never had any problem with Prilosec, 20-mg. The OTC Prilosec is 10-mg, and I take two capsules a day if my prescription at the VA is late. I have never noticed my bowel movement smells any worst than it normally does. There is a test you can do to judge whether Prilosec is affecting your bowels. There are about 4 or 5 competitors to Prilosec. Examples are Zantac, Prevacid, 15-mg; Pepcid 20-mg.

This is very strange and maybe just a fluke but tonight I took a Prilosec otc and within about an hour my IC symptoms had subsided and are still gone now 4 hrs later......could there really be a connection????

Prilosec OTC was the only med that really controls my heartburn. My OB told me not to take it. I was told to take tums / zantac / gaviscon... which don't work the same as Prilosec. Good Luck.

I get bad nausea from some of them .. so may be worth trying another brand and see if it goes away. Just my two cents as a patient ... I take Prevacid w/o a problem that is very pricy vs generic for Prilosec. I'd ask your Dr and see what he/she thinks, too ?

I take one Prilosec, 20-mg, a day with no pain. Prilosec OTC, is 10-mg, is a good start. Take two if you later think you need it.. If I take two Prilosec, 20-mg, I get dry-mouth, so I only need one for 24 hours. Judge whether a capsule or tablet suits you, then decide whether you think you do not need to see a doctor. If you later decide you do need a doctor's care, a procedure namesed Upper GI Series can be performed by a Gastroenterologist.

Prevacid is a Protein Pump Inhibitor (PPI) like Aciphex, Nexium and Prilosec. It's indicated for GERD (chronic acid reflux) and as far as I know has nothing to do with treating Hep C, other than if you happen to have GERD. I believe Prilosec is a generic sold OTC but not 100% sure so speak to your doctor and pharmacist regarding switching off.

Is it okay to take Prilosec? They said Zantac was okay, but not to take Prevacid. I bought Prilosec and want your opinions on it.

I have been having some GI issues for almost 2 months now and was first diagnosed with Gastritis. For the Gastritis I was given 15 days worth of Prilosec. While on the Prilosec (and before) I had diarrhea and loose stools every day. Being as I was having that before, I never attributed it to the Prilosec but now I'm questioning whether or not the Prilosec contributed to the loose bowel movements as I am now back on Prilosec and am having loose stools once again.
