Prilosec vs nexium medication

Common Questions and Answers about Prilosec vs nexium medication

prilosec

Avatar f tn I think it really depends on the person. I've tried Prilosec, Nexium and Aciphex, all for extensive periods of time. My # 1 all-time fave is Nexium, and Aciphex is also very effective. Prilosec doesn't seem to work as well. Just my experience.
Avatar n tn t allow Nexium to be sold/patented because it was so similar to Prilosec. Prilosec = Omeprazole vs Nexium = Esomeprazole, just go with Omeprazole and pay the generic copay.
Avatar f tn I suggested he try Prilosec, and all this went away, as did his prescription medication. Give it a try, it worked wonders for him. Google the medication you're on for side effects, or call your pharmacist to determine if this is having any affect on it.
Avatar m tn Prilosec, Nexium Side Effects: Acid Reflux Medication Heart Attack Class Action Lawsuit Investigation A recent study found that proton pump inhibitor heartburn treatments such as Nexium, Prilosec and Prevacid may be linked to an increased risk of heart attack, heart failure or sudden cardiac death.
709686 tn?1277432159 Esomeprazole (Nexium) is slightly different than omeprazole (Prilosec). But your body could react the same way. You could try a small amount and see. There are some combo otc drugs by Rolaids and others that have an antacid and famotidine (acid reducer). Those probably don't work as well.
Avatar m tn Can you take nexium one day and Prevacid the next? I am struggling to find something to help stop the burning in my chest and back. I started on Prilosec 4 years ago for GERD. When that didn't cover it, I was switched to Nexium. Then my primary switched me to Protonix 40 mg/daily. That worked for the last year. I tried taking Celebrex for a hip problem and that threw my reflux into overdrive! It's been 6 weeks and I can't get the flare under control.
Avatar f tn Nexium is suppose to be a cleaner version of Prilosec. I have tried all of the acid blockers and Nexium is my last resort before surgery is necessary. While on Prilosec, I couldn't lift a dumbbell which wasn't good because I worked in a Lady's gym. Nexium...I have been on this for 6 years now and the only side effect I have is diarrhea. My gastroenterologist does not seem to be concerned because the Nexium is working for me. Nexium is not suppose to effect the joints.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Protonix for 5 yrs. Originally had Bowel obstruction surgery 7 yrs. agao. Bad doctor from emergency room referral, no antibiotics before during or after. Contracted acute sepsis, jaundice then ARDS. On ventelator in coma for several weeks. Upon awakening had hole in my stomach size of a football. Several failed mesh surgeries, finally flapped and repaired by reputable nationally known surgeon. Still have adhesions requiring decompression sometim es, etc.
Avatar f tn Nexium is just fine to take on treatment as is the other PPI's. My hepatologist ordered me Nexium during tx and then led me go to Prilosec or prevacid when the became OTC. And sense i'm now SVR there wasn't a problem with them.........
679466 tn?1247006054 He gave me a bunch of Prilosec samples - told me it was better to take Prilosec every day then Nexium. I said, "really?" He recommended i set up an appointment with a Gastro care Doc. So mayble i'll start taking the Prilosec instead of the Nexium, especially if it works just as well. Do we have confirmation that Prilosec long-term is better (healthier) than taking Nexium long-term? Or is that uncertain?
Avatar n tn The active components in Nexium are esomprazole magnesium and in Prilosec are Omeprazole Magnesium. Also, Nexium comes in 20 mg and 40 mg capsules and Prilosec is sold over the counter in 20 mg tablets. My GI switched me to Nexium because Aciphex gave me terrible side effects and Protonix made my water brash symptoms ever worse. I have tried Prilosec in the past and it didn't have much of an effect for me.
Avatar f tn My question is this, since small intestinal bacteria overgrowth can be caused by taking acid blocking medicine like Nexium or Prilosec, will the bacteria come back since I continue to take Prilosec for GERD? What other medication can I take to ease the symptoms of GERD? Thank you for your time.
Avatar n tn I have acid reflex ... I've been taking Nexium for about 5 yrs and was taking Prilosec prior for a number of years. Lately I've noticed that my spine is making a noise when I move while I'm setting down. I read that Nexium interfers with the obsorption of drugs and vitamins, therefore diminishing the availability of calcium entering the system to support the bone structure.

Avatar f tn Prilosec and Nexium is for heartburn. Prilosec is taken over a 14 day period and can only be taken every 4 months. Not sure about dosing for Nexium but Prilosec is often prescribed because it is over the counter.
221122 tn?1323011265 That was a year ago and I have been fine. GUESS WHAT!- the medication I ran out of and stopped was PRILOSEC. I have been wondering ever since about a connection and it's becoming more clear as time goes on.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Prilosec OTC and my Doctor prescribed Nexium. It seems to me that they are the same, with one being extremely cheaper. I am Beginning my fifth month of pregnancy and I would like to know if it is safe to continue taking prilosec otc.
Avatar m tn My doctor told me to take an aspirin a day. Two weeks ago I developed gastritis symptoms. I stopped the aspirin and my doctor told me to take Prilosec. She said "when you damage your stomach lining it may take a while to heal". Aspirin stopped for two weeks now and taking Prilosec for one week. Still have gastritis symptoms. Should I be freaking out? Anybody know what kind of recovery time to expect from aspirin induced gastritis? Are we talking days or months?
Avatar f tn I have been having some GI issues for almost 2 months now and was first diagnosed with Gastritis. For the Gastritis I was given 15 days worth of Prilosec. While on the Prilosec (and before) I had diarrhea and loose stools every day. Being as I was having that before, I never attributed it to the Prilosec but now I'm questioning whether or not the Prilosec contributed to the loose bowel movements as I am now back on Prilosec and am having loose stools once again.
Avatar n tn I ran out of Nexium and am trying to get by with Prilosec until I see my gastro doc. It's not working very well. Anyone got any tips? I'm taking lots of Tums, but still burning like crazy. I've been on the Nexium for years and would love to get off of it if there is something less physically addictive.
Avatar f tn My dr prescriped nexium for me. It is a miracle worker. Nothing over the counter woukd work for me. It was terrible. Nexium was a life saver. I dont have heartburn at all now. You can actually buy it over the counter now too i think, its pricey, but definitely worth the money.
979080 tn?1323433639 Prilosec and Nexium are very similar. Nexium is Prilosec that has been slightly modified.
Avatar m tn I have been suffering with abdominal pain for about a year and a half now, i had an endoscopy in January 2009 and was diagnosed with mild Gastritis and Reflux, i was given Nexium to take which i took for 4 months and felt better. After a couple of months it came back again but felt worse so i was told by the doctor to go back on Nexium again which i had taken for 3 months and the pain and burning had not gone away.
2101847 tn?1333564794 s so similar to Prilosec, when the drug company lost their patent for Prilosec, they removed a isomer and named it Nexium. (Similar to what happen with Celexa and Lexapro) I don't get how Nexium is category B and Prilosec is C? How did you get your insurance to pay for it?
