Avatar n tn My stomach also had numerous areas of irritation. I've been taking Prevacid and/or Nexium for 2 weeks and haven't noticed any changes in the way that I feel. Does it take a while for these medications to work enough for me to notice a difference? I have researched GERD on the internet, and see that some people need long-term drug intervention - especially those, like myself, who have the hernia & LES problem. It says that my symptoms will return if drug therapy is discontinued.
Avatar n tn what is the success rate of Nexium vs the others and will it interfere with any natural supplements that I am already taking? I was also told that it is possible that i do have a floating hiatal hernia. Is that what causes the pain in my upper abdomin and under my ribs from time to time? He said my liver is perfect, as well as my pancreas, so that is the only assumption I have. Any Ideas on my constent muscle cramps as well?? Maybe I am lacking something in my diet.
Avatar n tn I learned that it is dangerous to take these PPI (Nexium, Prilosec, Prevacid, etc) medications long term. A friend of mine had a nissen fundoplication done and was still taking the PPI meds and ended up ruining the lining to her stomach and small intestine. She will have to have vitamin B shots for the rest of her life--every week--just to survive.
213739 tn?1215489609 He also has developmental delay. We started on Zantac, went to Prilosec and then Prevacid. On the Prevacid, we had a scope done at about 18 months due to the fact that he was up all night coughing, crying all of the time, etc. that showed severe esophagitis, an ulcer, lots of erosion 'Bad spots' as they called them, and an inflamed dueodenum. They immediately put him on Nexium and he's been on adult Nexium 20 mg three times per day for the past 21 months. He does not eat solids.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with GERD about 3 months ago and so far the prevacid and prilosec OTC and both of them gave me diarrear and stomach I am trying the Apple Cider Vinegar way...seems to have helped already in only one day of using it...what do you think of this method of treatment...thanks...76 year old female This discussion is related to Prontonix vs Nexium et al.
Avatar m tn Just my two cents as a patient ... I take Prevacid w/o a problem that is very pricy vs generic for Prilosec. I'd ask your Dr and see what he/she thinks, too ?
Avatar m tn omeprazole (Prilosec), lansoprazole (Prevacid), rabeprazole (Aciphex), pantoprazole (Protonix), esomeprazole (Nexium), and Zegarid, a rapid release form of omeprazole. What physician's often overlook and the package inserts on these drugs usually omits are several subtle, yet important side effects including joint, muscle and/or leg pains. The swelling and pain in my hands has greatly reduced since I quit taking Prilosec about a week ago. The muscle jerking, not so much.
Avatar n tn I am not a doctor, but a person who suffers from acid reflux. I have tried zantac, nexium, prilosec, prevacid, alka selzer, gasx, extra strength gas x,galvescon, tums, baking soda and more. Today,I watch what I eat and I pay attention to what is safe to eat and what is not-no one is perfect,so if I have an urge to eat the sinful ones,I will eat them early in the day and if I am going out to eat,I take a nexium one hour beforehand.
544341 tn?1234992477 The main action of this group of pharmaceuticals is the long acting reduction of gastric acid production. These include Prevacid, Prilosec, Nexium and Protonix. These drugs are convenient to use and can be initially useful, but many find that the side effects outweigh the benefits. When it comes to quitting them, one will find that it is not so easy. PPI drugs are supposed to be used for a restricted period of time, however most patients continue their use indefinitely.
Avatar n tn The problem is that I'm not responding to any medications and suffer from excruciating flare ups about every 3 weeks. I've used Protonix, Nexium, Prevacid, Prilosec, Carafate plus a few more meds for cramping. I've had an Endoscopy, Endoscopic Ultrasound, MRI, Cat Scan w/contrast, Abdominal Ultrasound, X-Rays - all were normal with the exception of the gastritis and Duodenitis = NO H.Pylori. I'm scheduled for a colonoscopy in a few weeks.
Avatar n tn When I woke up this morning I could tell my stomach and esophogus were upset with me, and when I finally ate lunch (several tums, water, and a prilosec later) 15 minutes or so later the bloating and heart fluttering kicks in. Please if anyone knows a way to heal yourself from this condition let me know. I have been living in discomfort for 6 months and I am afraid that my 29 years of Moutain Dew and Taco Bell finally caught up with me....
Avatar f tn This time when the blood tests came back, they want me to do the Prev-pack and Prevacid for two months because I tested positive for it again. I found out that there is a breath test that doc can give you to see if you have live bacteria at the moment. But they couldn't do that, because they are currently out of the test. (uhhhhh!) So I took it upon myself to look some stuff up on the internet about H-Pylori and how to be rid of it.
Avatar n tn At one point, I had gone to a doctor for stomach problems, and he told me I had a borderline Peptic Ulcer, and put me on Prilosec, which really worked well, and helped control the acid reflux. I was doing some research on this Hyoid Bone, and when you have problems with the acid reflux, it can cause a lot of problems in your throat, which I'm sure you are familar with, and the acid reflux can actually cause tumors in the throat, and they can become cancerous.
