Prevacid rebound

Common Questions and Answers about Prevacid rebound

Avatar f tn Tried gave you great advice, if your little one is not doing well in a week or so I would call your ped to update. Sometimes the Prevacid isn't enough, we have Cam on 3 meds, Prevacid wasn't enough so they added Reglan, when that still didn't stop the issues, they added Zantac as well. We have not been able to wean him off of any yet, when we have tried it has been awful. I hope your little one gets relief soon.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Prevacid for about 6 months for gas and indigestion. I am feeling better now. Can I stop taking Prevacid abruptly, or should I wean myself off. Also, what natural remedies can I use if symptoms recur. Thank You.
Avatar n tn I have been on Prevacid for about 1.5 years. I had an endoscopy that indicated quite a lot of esophogal damage, as well as a polyp that my gastroenterologist said is the largest he had ever seen. He wanted me to take the medication to get the area to heal. I have done a lot of reading about Prevacid recently, and found that it is recommended for only a 6-8 week period. Not only does it cost me $150.00 per month, but many, many people have had some horrific side effects from it.
Avatar n tn my granddaughter was prescibed prevacid 15mg daily when she was about 18 months old from her allergist( she has no known allergies) she is coming up on her second birthday..should she still be taking this medication and does anyone know the side effects that prolonged use has on little childen?
Avatar m tn I have gone on and off PPI's (Prilosec and Prevacid a long time ago). When you cut back you get acid rebound. It's better to do it slowly if you can. I think Prevacid comes in 15mg but you need to ask your doctor as I'm not sure if the over the counter version is exactly the same as the prescription. You can also ask your doctor what else you can take to help with the acid rebound. Avoiding acidic foods also helps. Good luck!
547002 tn?1219800976 In July i was having some swallowing problems or thought i was and they did an EGD and found nothing but a VERY tiny hiatal hernia. My stomach lining was nice and pink. I had been taking prevacid for two weeks prior to the EGD due to the trouble swallowing NOW i want to stop taking the prevacid and every time i try i get really sick. I get weak, nauseaus and for a day or two i literally go to the bathroom constantly and have loose yellow stools with stomach cramps.
1569985 tn?1328251082 I just got my Prevacid Rx (taken for reflux) refilled. I have been taking this for roughly 10 years, just about the same number of years I've been having Afib. On the cautions, it reads, "Low Blood Magnesium levels have been reported rarely in patients taking PPIs for at least 3 months. In most cases, this effect was seen after a year of treatment. If you will be taking this med for a long time or if you take certain other meds (eg.
1806721 tn?1510192923 It was such a stupid idea that I d/c'd Prevacid. Well, the rebound acid refluxes were pretty awful for me when I couldn't take my meds on time due to my work schedule. Now I'm on Prevacid bid plus Zantac max strength, and hope to weather through this attack sooner. So far nothing works yet. I'm still in horrible pain. I'm due for another ferritin check, but I didn't go coz I knew it would be thru the roof (last two were ~500 >2xUNL).
Avatar m tn After 2 weeks I check up with my doctor again, this time he prescribe me prevacid. After taking Prevacid, I gain my appetite back. The problem is, I have develope new symptoms after taking prevacid for 1 week. I am having very loose bowel movements, blood on the toliet paper when I wipe, indigestion, lower abdominal pain. Most importantly is I am having more frequent heartburn and chest pain, which I don't have when I am on the H2 blocker.
Avatar m tn He tested me, the tests came back positive and I had to do a 7-day program of Prevacid and 2 antibiotics. Everyday I took it I had no nausea, and today the nausea is back, to an extent. I'm wondering if this means I need to stay on Prevacid, or if I'm withdrawing from the antibitoics, or perhaps neither one! Has anyone had a similar experience?
Avatar f tn That is interesting because I was taking Prevacid and also noticed an increase in PAC's. Its still to early for me to tell if that was the culprit because my Palps have a mind of their own and can last as long as a week at times. For now though I have stopped the Prevacid to see if that helps. I also take fish oil which I've heard can help palps but I've also read that they can worsen them, who knows? Keep us posted!
1806721 tn?1510192923 I have never taken Prevacid before. Are these two the same thing? Can I use Prilosec to substitute the Prevacid in the pack? I'm scared of stopping Prilosec as my symptoms always get worse when I tried to wean myself off the drug in the past. I'm also horrified by the idea of combined antibiotics for extended time. I can barely tolerate a single antibiotic agent for 5d in the past. How much probiotics should I take to counteract the side effects of antibiotics? Thank you!
Avatar m tn If so are H2 meds like Pepcid and Zantac ok, or are PPI meds like Prilosec and Prevacid better? Thanks and have a great day!
Avatar m tn I went about 5 days without prevacid. The next week (after being back on prevacid for a day) I started experiencing a tightness in my chest right below my sternum when I exercised. I did NOT experience shortness of breath or an overly increased heart-rate. The symptoms were much worse when I performed cardio with my arms (elliptical machine) rather then jogging or walking. The tightness went away almost immediately after I stopped exercising and I never felt any pain anywhere else in my body.
Avatar f tn just called and said its Diverticulia(sp) and also said Bacteria in my stomach and thats what is causing the bloating and stay on Prevacid for a month. Can you tell me how you felt symptoms and how long will it take for my stomach to go down to normal. He also said to eat alot of fiber, veggies and fruit. Then if it does help to take Benefiber does this really work? I'm hoping someone can explain the Dx's alittle more because you know how fast the Drs.
Avatar m tn After months of treatment, my doc informed me it's now time to get off my heartburn medication (Nexium). I tried to go completely off of it, but within days my GERD symptims fire up again: sore throat, hard to eliminate mucus in throat, hoarse voice, pain in my tongue/mouth, and--rarely--pain in my back and upper stomach. I tried to go on once-every-two-days, as per his second recommendation, and while the symptoms are better, the aforemention symptoms are still there.
Avatar n tn Whatever you do, make sure to wean yourself off of it. Otherwise, you will likely end up with acid rebound, which is what happened to me the first time I stopped taking Prevacid. In fact, I hadn't had actual heartburn as a symptom until I stopped taking the Prevacid...the very next night and following night, I had terrible burning pain and ended up back at the doctor's.
Avatar n tn I'm sorry you are not feeling much better. I'm telling ya, I came off the Prevacid and felt better. That's not to say that you will. But I ALWAYS had problems with side effects from Prevacid and Nexium (Diarrhea, nausea, and it never seemed to help with the burning anyway). I've read that if you stop them all of a sudden you will have a rebound effect and will actually make the burning/reflux worse. So it is recommended to taper off. Have you been off the PPI's before?
Avatar n tn Do not stop the medication without consulting your doctor as your mother could rebound to a very high blood pressure More common Bloating or swelling of face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet rapid weight gain tingling of hands or feet unusual weight gain or loss Less common Body aches or pain chills cough difficulty in breathing dizziness ear congestion fever headache loss of voice muscle aches sneezing sore throat stuffy or runny nose unusual tiredness or weakness Rare hoarseness increased
5787844 tn?1376082584 rolaids/tums can cause rebound heartburn try Maalox/Mylanta first.
Avatar m tn Once u wean off these meds and it should be a slow removal as u can experience rebound if u get off too quickly. Since these meds do stop production of acids, and ur body does need acids to break down foods, u will need to get ur GI track back into natural balance....probiotics may be helpful. Talk to ur Dr about ur concerns. Many people have been on there meds much longer then 2 yrs...
Avatar f tn My GI thinks I have reflux but we haven't done an endoscopy. He said my stomach pain coupled with "burning" are signs of the reflux. I was on a Prevacid for a while and things got better and stayed better for a long time, so he took my off it as a trial. Now its back and I tried the Prevacid again, but its not working. We're thinking about trying Prilosec (sorry if its spelled wrong) OTC. Right now I'm just taking Tums until we decide. Does the prilosec work well?
171768 tn?1324233699 She has been on Zantac since 4 weeks old, but it just wasn't doing enough. She went onto prevacid at 4 months old, and I was so excited to notice a huge difference within 24 hours. However, we have been unable to wean her off of the zantac. If we miss even 1 dose, the poor thing starts shrieking, arching, turning red, etc... I tried to get her down to twice a day because she had been doing well. Only 3 hours past when her dose would have been due, she was inconsolable and in obvious pain.
Avatar n tn Is she on a Proton Pump Inhibitor, like Prevacid, Nexium, or Prilosec? She should be taking this every day without fail. She should also get a new Dr. Has she been to a Pulmonologist (lung specialist), or Gastrointerologist (digestive system Dr.)? It takes the lungs a while to rebound from smoking. At first coughing may be worse, trying to get rid of years of sludge in the lungs.
Avatar f tn I also have quite a bit of stress in my life and am very stress-intolerant. I'm currently taking Ativan, Atenolol, Prevacid and Astelin nasal spray. I'm an ex-smoker. An ex-alcoholic and I've been on various meds over the years. Like many others, I've had shoeboxes full of tests over a period of decades and every one of them (except for a few) have come back normal.
Avatar n tn Currently I use Nexium or Prevacid ( think Prevacid works better) to control acid stomach and nauseau. I also take Probiotics, a brand called Primal Defense. Doesn't have to be refrigerated. Don't know if it's working's only been a week now. Besides, it takes time for the balance to occur with the good and bad bacteria in your gut. Recently read an article that states that antibiotics won't truly cure H. Pylori.
Avatar n tn Anyway, I'm hoping to get some help thru here. I was originally put on Prevacid about 7 yrs ago. When the GERD decided to act up (quite frequently) the pain in the center of my chest was sssoooo intense I thought I was having a heart attack. After many trips to the ER and putting me on a monitor and having an EKG etc., the GI cocktail did the trick (always).
Avatar n tn This was what prompted me to seek the advice of a physician in 1992. I was placed on Prevacid and I take 30 mg. daily but when it's bad I have to add an antacid to it before bedtime. The other thing is to watch my dietary intake of caffeine, spicy foods and avoid eating after 7 pm, not even drinking a glass of milk. There is an acid in milk that can cause a rebound effect, or so I've been told.
Avatar m tn If you take one in the AM one day and PM the next day, it will lead to rebound reflux that you described. Third, when you wean it off, you need to wean it off slowly. Take Prevacid as example, if you start from 30mg qd, then step 2 is 30mg odd days and 15mg even days, step 3 is 15mg per day, step 4 is 15mg odd days and Zantac even days, step 5 is Zantac every day, step 6 is Zantac odd days and antacid even days, step 7 is antacid every day, step 8 is antacid as needed.
