I think there is a difference between bowel/colon polyps which should be removed, and benign stomach polyps caused by PPIs. I was diagnosed today with a stomach polyp and told it was most likely a result of long term use of a PPI (in this case Pariet). Does anyone know if benign stomach polyps develop into something nastier, grow bigger, can be reduced by diet, or changing PPI med?? Thanks

I was given prevacid for 4 weeks and been tested for the H. Pylori virus via urea breath test which was negative. My CT scan was normal except for a few small kidney stones and my ultrasound again revealed the same 3-4mm size gallbladder polyps.
My doctor said I should have my gallbladder removed and referred me to a general surgeon. Since my polyps has not increased in size in 7 months I am worried weather removing my gallbladder is the right move since there no gallstones.
my stomach is always so acidic iam on prevacid and have been for 7 years . its not helping anymore i dont know what to do. how do i prevent this from happening. i try very hard to watch my diet. what caused the polyups.and how do i stop this from happening.i am always so uncomfotable i always have a lot of gas bloating burping..medicine does not seem to help. i am even thinking of finding a homeopathic root.
I have taken prevacid off and on for years without any problem. When the stomach pain started, I thought it was caused by my adrenal insufficiency, since it is one of the symptoms. I have only been on the high dose for about 5 months--and I think the stomach pain started before that---but there is definitely a connection to it now.
I had to raise my HC, was having symptoms that suggested my basline dose was too low.
Just to add to yesterday's reply to your question. Your question got me to thinking. I wrote a letter to the gastro-doc who took over for mine who took his practice out of the area.I asked if they still had my records from the endoscopy, briefly explained that I had had stomach polyps and a "slight" amount of Barretts and asked if it would be time for a recheck.
I think whether they have the records or not, they'll contact me and maybe want to check.
I'm 54 years old. For the past 25 years, I've had acid reflux issues and was on Prevacid or some other type of prescription medicine to help. The acid was starting to cause my throat to get really pink so my E.N.T. highly recommended that I see a specialist to get a Nissen Fundoplication. Which I did. And honestly, it didn't hell all that much. Within the last 3-4 years, I started getting really really bad lower abdominal and intestinal pain from time to time.
I took Prevacid at 1:30 this morning, Synthroid at 6:30, non fiber breakfast at 8:30 and now at 9:30 I am having terrific stomach discomfort . This will dissapate as the morning goes by but have not yet discovered what is causing the distress that I did not have before doing anything. Maybe it is the two cups of caffine???
I had sinus surgery the endoscopic sinus surgery i had a devided spetum lots and lots of polyps and extensive sinus congestion i been on navane and prevacid for a good 7 years the problems with the pressure in the ear and migraine started 3 years ago. it is now 3 weeks after the surgery i still get pressure in my ear along with the migraine with the aura can any doctors figure this out for me.
My daughter also takes pentasa and WAS taking prevacid. The prevacid didn't seem to help her and our GI switched her to prilosec. My daughter has had no complaints with the prilosec. Both prevacid and prilosec have the same actions so they do the same things. The only interaction that I know of with prevacid and penicillin is with a type of penicillin called Ampicillin and it may inhibit the absorption of the prevacid.
A colonoscopy allows the docs to view your colon very closely, and if it was clear of polyps then you have nothing to worry about. The acid in your stomach may be GERD (acid reflux) and there is medication for this. You may want to have an Endoscopy so the doctor can look at your stomach and determine exactly what...if anything is going on. Stomach burning is common with acid reflux and ulcers... both are treatable.
On June 9th he had an endoscope and which showed that his stomach from top to bottom is full of polyps. There were sever biopsies performed and they came back non cancerous
but the Dr. said that he would not attempt to do surgery on my husband because he would have to remove the whole stomach. What if any other options does he have? Will the polyps eventually develop into cancer?

46 is early for colorectal cancer, nausea is not a typical symptom. If pain was from cancer, you'd probably bleed from the intestine. Maybe it's good if you have a hemmocult test for hidden blood in the stool.
ve found thus far says that stomach polyps are more common in people age 60+. I am 21 years old and just had a fluoroscopy done on Friday. It came back negative for what my doc was looking for, but the nurse called me yesterday to tell me that they found "several" polyps in my stomach. I'm having an upper endoscopy done on Monday. I was just curious to see if anyone else had, had stomach polyps at such a young age?
In fact when I burp, I can feel the hot yucky gas coming up from my stomach. A recent google showed that prevacid can cause a side effect of halitosis. Other comments insist it is the GERD but I am not entirely convinced. In my opinion, neither one is new to me, but the halitosis is. I suppose the only way to figure it out would be to go off the prevacid. What is the consensus out there?

Last week I was diagnosed with a duodenal ulcer and am taking Amoxicillin, Biaxin and Prevacid. I am one week into treatment and feel only marginally better.
My question is about stomach tenderness. Is a tender stomach normal with a peptic ulcer? My entire stomach area, from just below my breasts, down to my navel, is very tender to the touch. When touched it produces like a burning/stinging/bruised feeling. Depending on the day, or time of the day, the pain is greater or less.
I just had a endoscopy and 10 polyps were found in my stomach. They were biopsied but I haven't hear from them yet. I have been having problems with GERD. Do I have anything to fear? And what is the difference between polyps and tumors?

HI, I am a 27 year old female who was diagnosed with gastroparesis and gerd in 2007. I have been on 30mg of Prevacid daily for almost 4 years now and just recently have been having terrible symptoms again with gerd. I saw my GI specialist and he recommended I start taking reglan again because the gastroparesis might be causing the reflux.
i take prevacid for my gerd, can this cause atrial fibrillation

We are here to help but please know the best source of information is your own doctor. Stomach polyps in general are not terribly common and typically produce no symptoms. Your gastritis is probably separate and this was found when looking into that. Please know that most stomach polyps do not become cancerous. (i had two different doctor check up before having all the test) and when im dont on my 14 days drinking prevacid its never been severe and not everyday pain. so i decided not to go back.. after 3 weeks i have all the pain again... especially if i eat something like coffee or tea. and i try to drink prevacid to help the pain and it work out after 30 minutes.
i would like to know what the best thing to do and what are the food i should be concious of eating..
But I followed up with my primary doctor and she told me that I should just take the Prevacid and not worry about the xrays and such. That acid reflux is "normal" and Prevacid will help it.
And it did. Or maybe I was thinking it was.
Until I ran out of it about 3 weeks ago.
The bloat has been back with a vengeance, and today something different has been happening. My stomach/abdomen started hurting in the lower right area, coupled with gas pains.
I started taking prevacid a few weeks ago for an esophogial ulcer (non-malignant), I had stomach aches for on about day four or five that went away. My heart burn and pain in my sides is gone. My stools went from normal to yellow and remain that way. I contacted my doctor who acted like I was worrying too much and said this is normal because my food is going through me quicker then pre-previc acid.
That is interesting because I was taking Prevacid and also noticed an increase in PAC's. Its still to early for me to tell if that was the culprit because my Palps have a mind of their own and can last as long as a week at times. For now though I have stopped the Prevacid to see if that helps. I also take fish oil which I've heard can help palps but I've also read that they can worsen them, who knows? Keep us posted!
