Hoodia is an appetite suppressant that has not been very well studied. In fact, its efficacy is often questioned. I am not aware of any side-effects of this supplement. Certainly, if you think that there is a temporal relationship between your starting the hoodia and poor blood pressure control you should you could probably assume that the two are somehow related.
I do not want to take Effexor, and Clonidine may lower my blood pressure too much since I am already on two blood pressure meds. I will try the Evista and if get flashes again, I may just stop. I read magnesium helps, so I tried. It did help quite a bit, but unfortunately, if you take enough, you get diarrhea. Some choice. So if anyone knows of other alternatives for flashes, please post.
Three days ago I went to a new doctor to get the hormones adjusted and she said she does not prescribe bioidenticals and gave me a prescription for Prempro. I do not want to take this and I told her so. She said she does not believe bioidenticals are any safer than Prempro and if I needed to have an adjustment in my Rx due to break through symptoms of hot flashes and severe brain fog along with zero energy then I needed to try something different than what I had been doing.
I had Graves Disease and my doctor has me on .1 Synthroid, with annual thyroid blood tests. When my TSH levels drop or rise above the normal range, the doctor adjusts my Synthroid dosage. I also have uncomfortable symptoms when I am not in the normal TSH range.
Recently the doctor changed my Prempro dosage from .45/1.5 mg per day to double that amount. Do you think the change in Prempro could change my thyroid levels?
Thanks, this was helpful. I'm 69 years old and started on HRT at 48 and have been taking Prempro for most of those 21 years, and still on it. Whenever I've tried to stop I dnn't feel right -- aches and pains -- more tired than usual. 2 year ago I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, so now on Armor Thyroid as well, but still get very exhausted by the end of the work week. My gynocologist and endocrinologist seem to think all this is fine.
I was taking the hormones to help my bones, as I have osteopenia and rheumatoid arthritis. I am on prescription drugs to help the bones (Boniva and calcium and vit. d). I'm worried about breast cancer with continuing the hormones. I had a partial mastectomy on my right breast which was benign. I had a cluster of microcalcifications which looked supicious, but turned out to be benign (big sigh)! Okay now my question.

so glad I found this site. my journey began in 2010 when I started having very heavy periods this went on for over a year when I went to my family dr. he asked me if I was anemic I told him I didn't think so but was very tired. he checked my blood and found that I was. had to have other testing done to roll out other issues. after that I was sent to my ob-gyn which did a biopy which was ok then put me on depo shots for two years to get me to menopause.
It could be the prempro. Ask your doctor about going off of it for a few month and see if that helps. I heard that estrogen can cause congestion along with other medications. I too have non allergic rhinitis but mine is considered Vasomotor rhinitis.k I had this for 6 yrs. but I do not take any medication, just nasal steroid sprays and nasal rinses and it does not do anything. I even had sinus surgery - total ethmoidectomy, opening the ostia of the maxillary sinuses and partial turbinectomy.
So, yes, I would guess you could have mood swings due to menopause any time after. I am 59 and have been on Prempro for about 7 years and just went off them and my hot flashes now are worse than ever! I have severe insomnia (I take sleeping pills every night and sometimes they don't help!) I have been sleeping with the windows open even when it's getting down into the 30s and 40s at night and that helps a lot.
40 is a little young to start Menopause, but not unheard of, it can happen. I started @ 49, for 1 year, I would bleed for 7 weeks, then it stop, started, did that for a year. I have not had a period for 2 yrs now. I started gaining weight a little weight in my mid section, I also got very depressed. I'm not a depressed type, always happy, not moody. I had to go on Prempro, it took 2 weeks, I was better.
I thought the jury was out once again on whether Prempro (HRT) actually does increase the risk of breast cancer beause the study is believed by some to be flawed. The study was composed of mostly older women, who are at a higher risk. Also, I thought over the counter natural hormone remedies are not regulated by the FDA, thus they dont know if linked to breast cancer. This information might become outdated as I am writing this.

I even asked my dr. to give me a hysterectomy and she said it wouldn't change a thing. WOO HOO! I am going with the Prempro and and am double rinsing all my clothes. Using less detergent and fabric softener too. Don't you just love those cotton panties? I've had BV several times and numerous yeast infections due to this thing they call Menopause.
I just started prempro 4 nights ago, and my hot flashes (and subsequent clod flashed) and night seats have gotten worse, not better.
I'm only (almost) 46 and was taking DHEA and Pregnenolone....and they worked well up until a couple of months ago. I up'd the dosage, and it still won't work for me anymore. I really REALLY didn't/don't want to take synthetics, but it all just became too much...nauseous too....want to cry all the time.
I have burning and itching in vaginal area and horrible dry skin that also itches. I have been told to go on Prempro by my Dr. Does it help? I still have a uterus and I am afraid of HRT after all the hype i have heard. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated that worked for all of you that have suffered with this! Thank you!!!
Oncologist opinion that since I am 62, and have been on Prempro for 11 yrs that HRT may have contributed to LCIS, because although LCIS is found in women my age, it is usually found in younger women. Just finished weaninf off the Prempro. Having sweats and flashes, but not as bad as I thought it would be. I am supposed to start Raloxifene. This may cause hot flashes. If severe enough, dr will rx Effexor to treat flashes.
I took Prempro for six years and around the time of that hormone scare a few years back I decided to try to go off of it. I stuck it out for two years and struggled with a hot flash every hour, terrible insomnia, and a new symptom - waking up with a numb hand (hands). Do you notice that the entire hand is numb except the baby finger? The baby finger is fed by a different nerve.
When I was 49 my husband died and my periods just stopped suddenly and I had only hot flashes. But they were often and I would get drenched at work. So I took Prempro. I never stopped taking it because every time I tried the flashes came back. So when I found out ADH and LCIS is estrogen dependent, I weaned myself off the Prempro (all docs told me to anyway). I've been off of it for 60 days and still getting flashes. My onc wanted me to start Evista.
As for the anxiety, do yourself a favor and give Wisdom Menopause Formula a try. It has made a huge difference for me, and it took care of the hot flashes and night sweats as well. I know six or eight women who are taking it, and I've heard nothing but praise.

i am 26 year old and have a high blood pressure since a week and from past 4 days somtimes in a day i also feel pain in my head on the left hand side. the high bp problem started, when i joined gym, i took tenolol 25mg to control my bp and i was fine afterwards. But now again the high bp problem has started after a month and when i did a little work today i am feeling in my brain like,i shall sleep now and feeling uncomfortable.
but do any of you constantly check your blood pressure and heart rate..i woke up this morning and my blood prssure was 90/70 and heartrate was 111 i felt kinda week....its gone up now but sometimes it goes high like 140/86...then it goes normal it scares me....my heart rate goes up cause im on adderall and my anxiety gets so bad and im on prozac..been on prozac two months and i cant tell it doing much neither is the adderall......
