Avatar m tn , increases the availability) of several proteins, etc, that can cause pain to be more or longer than what would be expected in normal patients. The pain is typically a stabbing/sharp or burning sensation. Many medications, one of which you mentioned, are available. Others include amitriptyline, nortriptyline, and pregabalin, to name a few.
Avatar f tn During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring complete mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities.
Avatar f tn You may also want to find a Facial Pain specialist. These are doctors that deal with these issues in a daily basis.
Avatar m tn As suggested by your doctor, as the postoperative swelling and inflammation subside, your symptoms should improve. According to a study, patients treated with a postoperative cast returned to work at an average of thirty days after surgery whereas the group treated with immediate motion of the elbow returned to work at an average of ten days. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn That was about 4 years ago, I have adjusted and learned to walk with the drop foot. However, in recent months, I have experienced a stronger feeling of electrical shocks in the area near the toes that will last only about 3-5 seconds, but occur every 1-2 minutes. These have gotten more painful and I can find no cure to resolve or calm them. Believe me, I continue to try everything from a soak in the tub to heating pads to ice to exercise to massage.
Avatar n tn My recent MRI scan result after 2 years on mifepristone (RU486) shows a slight decrease in the size of my tumour. ALSO some clincial trials using the drug have resulted in improvements to vision in some patients. The optic nerve runs through the cavernous sinus and surgery in that area generally results in permanent deficits to eyesight.
673940 tn?1232411764 not the one i should have seen he also had with him one of the dental nurses who did this to me!!!, my dentist says this is not a second opinion ,it took the two dental nurses{or 1 nurse & 1 dentist} an hour and and a half to take my tooth out. they also gave me at least 7 injections {1 of wich went straight through and pricked her finger!!
Avatar f tn I am currently 4 weeks post-op and have severe Left buttock and hip pain, it feels like it is burning and even the skin is quite sensitive. I have pain in my back too, but I expect that. Pre-op I was told of the back pain, but not the butt, hip pain. I move slowly from bed to recliner and back again. I am taking percocet every 4 hrs along with either a flexoril or valium. So much pain! Has anyone else experienced this post-op? How long should this pain last?
Avatar f tn He was prescribed percecet 5mg and stool softners. Is there anything else he can do to help relieve the pain? He has been getting in a warm bath and saying that it helps...is that okay? Thanks.
Avatar f tn im training as dentist and in want to know about dental surgery in drug abusers- what problems do you anticipate
Avatar f tn The partially visualized cervical vertebra are generally normal in height and intrinsic bone marrow signal. There are postoperative ACDF changes at C4-5 C5-6 and C6-7 and partial resection of the posterior spinous processes from C4 to C7 and posterior spinal fixation with placement of a paired posterior fixation rods and bilateral lateral mass screws from C4 to C7 and facet spacers at C3-4, C4-5 and C5-6 bilaterally. Canal diameter is developmentally narrow.
Avatar f tn ve found is that with several of these patients, part of the pain is neuropathic in origin (pain due to damage to nerves because of the mastectomy). Addition of another drug which directly controls neuropathic pain, such as gabapentin (Neurontin) or pregabalin (Lyrica) usually eases the symptom. This may work for you. You can use heating pads, for as long as you do not apply excessive heat and macerate the tissue surrounding the wound.
Avatar f tn They both may cause patients to feel tired, dizzy and drowsy. In addition, patients may have impaired mental function and loss of balance. Please avoid driving and drinking alcohol while taking these medications. Here are more information on the 2 medications: 1. Pregabalin (Lyrica) - MedlinePlus http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a605045.html 2. Sertraline (Zoloft)- MedinePlus http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a697048.
Avatar f tn Through some experimenting with dose I have found that decreasing my dose to 300mg/day leads to a marked increase in pain, particularly in places that were free of pain *before* I had ever tried Lyrica. The pain is particularly brutal in the joints - knees, elbows, fingers - and it feels like a cross between bad arthritis and having needles stuck into the bone; most bizarre. Even after several days at the reduced dose I still copped these adverse pain effects.
Avatar f tn There are some patients who have something called failed failed back surgery. It usually occurs in patients who do not have clinical or imaging evidence of nerve compression, or it may be a result of the surgery not removing all of the herniated disc, postoperative inflammation/scarring, surgery at the wrong spinal level, muscle spasm or psychosocial issues. Treatment would include re-operation, chronic pain intervention, rehabilitation, and/or neuropathic medications.
Avatar n tn The trigeminal nerve system includes a body of nerve cells called the gasserian ganglion, and in patients with severe, refractory TN the gasserian ganglion can be ablated (literally meaning burned, intentionally damaged) to prevent transmission of impulses down the nerve. This is often successful but as with every surgical procedure there are risks and side effects, including the occurrence of facial numbness.
Avatar n tn Sometimes I top off the the pain medication by vaporizing bud. Lyrica is used in the Treatment of neuropathic pain in adults. Cesamet is synthetic THC. It's a nasty thing to have. I believe that the problem is the pain. Kill the pain as much as possible so you can do physio and keep moving. The worse time for me is the morning and then very late at night.
Avatar f tn Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. MANAGEMENT: During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression.
Avatar f tn That was in July still nothing. There is nothing else to do but wait for the ok. I have pain and numbness in my fingers. Can you give me any ideas on what to do?
Avatar n tn However i read that they were treating cancer patients with lyrica for their joint and bine pain ....Could you please let me know if it is safe for her to take lyrica for her fibromyalgia !!! Thank you so much for your time in this matter !!!
Avatar n tn Postoperatively, scrotal support and ice packs to the dressing is commonly used. Oral analgesics is needed for adequate postoperative pain relief. Patients are usually instructed to keep the dressing in place, to allow the wound to dry for 48 hours, and to avoid strenuous activity for 2 weeks. You can read more about the procedure through this link: http://www.emedicine.com/MED/topic2880.htm Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I suffer from neuropathic foot and leg pain and back pain. I went in to the clinic for my monthly visit to get my 2 prescriptions, one for oxycodone and the other for pregabalin. I sensed something was amiss because I was seeing someone new after seeing the same specialist for a year. We started conversing and she was taking a very adversarial position towards me. she then told me that hydrocodone showed up in my urine sample which was not prescribed.
