Avatar f tn My sister in law is diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia ... she is currently on Pregalin 75 for 6 weeks ???
Avatar f tn I am taking carbamazepine, occasional lamotrigine and have recently been advised by my neurologist to add pregabalin, 2 daily. At present, my TN has shifted from the usual position from the left side of my face and down the left side of my nose to a new and very painful path from the scalp (front forehead) and down the left side of my nose. I cannot bear to touch my scalp without bringing on a spasm. Is it normal for trigeminal neuralgia to change position in this way? Thank you.
Avatar f tn Treatment of post herpetic neuralgia are antidepressants, anticonvulsants (such as gabapentin or pregabalin) and topical agents such as lidocaine patches or capsaicin lotion. Opioid analgesics may also be appropriate in many situations. For more information visit http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn This new symptom that you are experiencing may indeed be post-viral neuralgia, and I believe this will be self limited and will soon disappear. However, I understand that the pain at the present should nevertheless be addressed. Aside from the usual migraine or pain medications you are taking, you may want to request your doctors regarding drugs specific for neuropathic pain such as gabapentin or pregabalin. Sometimes, some form of anti-depressant therapy may also help deal with the pain.
Avatar n tn Medications like acetaminophen, ibuprofen, tricyclic antidepressants, carbamazepine, pregabalin and duloxetine etc can help depending on the indication. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar m tn i have been prescribed neck rest with soft collar and neuro medicines like pregabalin. i should admit that today is the 3rd day of medication and pain came back after almost 2 days. i am guessing that the frequency is going down. my question is that does it seem to be the right diagnosis or not? is occipital neuralgia permanent? could this be a muscle spasm? i have had history of stiff neck and pain in sub-occipital and neck area in past 2 years.
1218873 tn?1300091216 I just googled treating trigeminal neuralgia with botox and came up with a ton of information - try that to find out more.
Avatar f tn Hi could anyone give me any views on carbamazepine for pain please?
Avatar n tn These are anti-epilepsy drugs such as valproate, carbamazepine, lamotrigine, phenytoin, gabapentin, and pregabalin; muscle relaxants such as clonazepam and baclofen; tricyclic antidepressants such as carbamazepine, amitriptyline, and nortriptyline. The other option is surgery: Stereotactic radiosurgery, cutting or destroying part of nerve or removing blood vessel or tumor pressing it. If there is a tumor or blood vessel causing the symptoms then medical treatment will not help.
Avatar f tn Ive been on lyrica and nuvigil fro fibro pain and fatigue, and just found out I'm pregnant. I'm just wondering if anyone else has taken either one of those while pregnant. I've stopped them for i was on only 50 mg of lyrica and about 100 of nuvigil. but I'm still worried, and i feel like I've been hit by a train once again, the pain is almost unbearable, i know my doc personally, have an appt. with him for the 12th.
Avatar n tn Do you still have this issue? Have you sought permanent relief from your supraorbital neuralgia? Desperate to be rid of my pain. It is burning in brows, stabbing, jabbing in corners of eyes on nose bridge, jabbing & burning under brows and sharp burning pins and needles between brows and along nose bridge sides and bridge. It is miserable. Nerve blocks to break down presumed scar tissue have made worse. With burning tho, I am not so sure it is scar tissue. Scar tissue wudnt cause pain.
Avatar n tn For TN that is not due to a specific cause, treatments that have been helpful include as you mentioned elavil and lyrica, as well as other medications such as trileptal, carbamazepine, and neurontin. The latter 3 were originally developed as a treatment for seizures but have been found very useful in TN. Other less commonly used medications include phenytoin (dilantin), a seizure medication, and antidepressants such as cymbalta.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your comments Slightly broken: I will take a copy of the side effects to the neurologist and see what he says! Sarah: I tried Gabapentin but it made me feel very sluggish which is why it was changed to Pregabalin (Lyrica) I am seeing my neurologist in Feb '11 so will ask him what he thinks and will post feedback, this cant go on its making me feel down and very self conscious.
Avatar m tn no it is not arthritis.....my question is....what will happen if she combines the methadone and the pregabalin?...she takes methadone about every other day...a bottle of 130mg methadone will last her almost 5 to 6 days....any info would be helpful.
Avatar n tn Regarding the symptoms that you have, they sound like a neuralgia, and more specifically a trigeminal neuralgia. Without being able to get a detailed history an examine you I cannot give you an exact diagnosis. Trigeminal neuralgia is pain that presents in a paroxysmal fashion in the distribution of the trigeminal nerve (frontal region, maxillar region and mandibular region).
Avatar f tn I saw my dentist when I got home, and she found no dental reason for my pain, and suggested trigeminal neuralgia. I saw my PCP yesterday, and after hearing my stories of pain (this has happened on and off for years), she said that she thinks I have trigeminal neuralgia, and that taking extra Lyrica when it flares up is fine. Oh, the extra Lyrica didn't make me sleepy, by the way.
Avatar f tn Hi, What you are suffering from seems like Intercostal Neuralgia and I would suggest you to consult a pain consultant for the same and there are some drugs like pregabalin which may help in your case. There are other treatment options also like nerve blocks which may help. Please discuss these with your pain consultant and I sincerely hope and believe that’ll help. Please do keep me posted. Kind regards.
Avatar f tn These are anti-epilepsy drugs such as valproate, carbamazepine, lamotrigine, phenytoin, gabapentin, and pregabalin; muscle relaxants such as clonazepam and baclofen; tricyclic antidepressants such as carbamazepine, amitriptyline, and nortriptyline.Sometimes a MRI is done to find out if there is a tumor pressing on the nerve. In this case surgery is the only treatment. You need a combined approach by a dentist and an ENT specialist. Take a second opinion if possible. Take care!
1253197 tn?1331209110 I was on 1800mg a day and put on a stone over 4 months! I have now swapped to pregabalin and I am beginning to lose the weight. I changed drug because the Gabapentin was not controling my symptoms enough nothing to do with the weight gain, I am now on 400mg of Pregabalin and I am try to lose the weight I have gained so far I have lost half a stone in about three weeks. I know that there are many people who feel that Pregabalin also makes them put on weight.
1252153 tn?1269094321 can anyone tell me what Lyrica is and Savella, in england Lyrica is a company who make a drug called Pregabalin, thats what i am on now, been back to doc 2day and he has give me a larger dose of pregabalin.
215220 tn?1191456864 t have glassopharyngeal neuralgia, but I do have trigeminal neuralgia and occipital neuralgia (or what I think it occipital neuralgia--the sx fit exactly). Both came on around the same time that was the start of this current "flare" (I'm un-dx). Having a killer headache with TN was pretty crappy. Luckily neurontin seems to be helping both problems. Can you call a doctor for a script for the pain w/o going in?
Avatar m tn Pregabalin is known as Lyrica in the States and is prescribed primarily to relieve neuropathic pain if you have diabetes or in the area of your rash if you have had shingles. It is also used to treat fibromyalgia. Pregabalin is used with other medications to treat certain types of seizures in people with epilepsy. Pregabalin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by decreasing the number of pain signals that are sent out by damaged nerves in the body.
2107676 tn?1388973859 I am back on Effexor (which was hell to taper off of), and pregabalin and fighting hard not to take too much pregabalin to ease the withdrawals. Luckily I have been sleeping quite a bit but I'm awake now and feeling like hell. It just seems like I have been through a year of fighting not to go through this hell and here I end up again.
Avatar n tn A related discussion, Is there a sinus and trigeminal neuralgia connection? was started.
983008 tn?1329925830 Seen my Dr yesterday and he wanted to get in touch with the neurologist to try and bump my appt up. I asked him to wait as I only started the pregabalin yesterday and my appt is first week in January anyway.
