Avatar f tn My sister in law is diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia ... she is currently on Pregalin 75 for 6 weeks ???
Avatar f tn I have been living with trigeminal neuralgia since 2004 when it was first diagnosed. I am taking carbamazepine, occasional lamotrigine and have recently been advised by my neurologist to add pregabalin, 2 daily. At present, my TN has shifted from the usual position from the left side of my face and down the left side of my nose to a new and very painful path from the scalp (front forehead) and down the left side of my nose. I cannot bear to touch my scalp without bringing on a spasm.
Avatar f tn Treatment of post herpetic neuralgia are antidepressants, anticonvulsants (such as gabapentin or pregabalin) and topical agents such as lidocaine patches or capsaicin lotion. Opioid analgesics may also be appropriate in many situations. For more information visit http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn A few weeks ago I had a viral upper respiratory infection, I mostly did alot of coughing, I seemed to get over it after a couple of weeks and then had a couple of weeks of feeling pretty good then just a few days ago I came down with a right sided headache that WILL NOT go away, I have suffered with migranes for 35 years and it is not a migrane, I went to the doctor and his diagnosis is Neuralgia, this is terrible pain it hurts mostly all of the time and sometimes to add to the pain I get shoot
Avatar n tn Sympathetic injections can minimise shingles progressing to post herpetic neuralgia. Medications like acetaminophen, ibuprofen, tricyclic antidepressants, carbamazepine, pregabalin and duloxetine etc can help depending on the indication. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar m tn i have been prescribed neck rest with soft collar and neuro medicines like pregabalin. i should admit that today is the 3rd day of medication and pain came back after almost 2 days. i am guessing that the frequency is going down. my question is that does it seem to be the right diagnosis or not? is occipital neuralgia permanent? could this be a muscle spasm? i have had history of stiff neck and pain in sub-occipital and neck area in past 2 years.
1218873 tn?1300091216 Anyway just before we went, I had an dr. appointment. In short he is changing the Gabapentin to Pregabalin which he is asking my GP to over see when I'd returned from holiday. Also did a blood test for sarcoid, as I have had eye problems, he felt this was unlikley but wanted the test done. If that is negative he is refering me to a specialist for botox which will help the TN pain. So I have returned to find a letter from my GP to go and see him as soon as I return from holiday.
Avatar f tn Carbamazepine (Tegretol) was first used to treat trigeminal neuralgia in the 1990s. Because of its success in treating that painful condition (which is very difficult to treat), it was then used to treat all kinds of neuropathic pain. While it may be useful, there are more modern medications that may help if you have a neuropathic pain problem -- for instance, Neurontin (gabapentin) and Lyrica (pregabalin).
Avatar n tn In all probability, you are suffering from trigeminal neuralgia. For medical treatment of trigeminal neuralgia several types of drugs are tried either singly or in combination. These are anti-epilepsy drugs such as valproate, carbamazepine, lamotrigine, phenytoin, gabapentin, and pregabalin; muscle relaxants such as clonazepam and baclofen; tricyclic antidepressants such as carbamazepine, amitriptyline, and nortriptyline.
Avatar n tn my daughter has had 2 surgeries for pituiatry tumour, radiotherapy, she still has remnant tumour, (Acromegaly) but also has facial ear and neck pain, which prof says is because tumour is pressing on trigeminal nerve, tried amytrplin, never worked, 3 weeks ago prof put her on Pregabalin, small dose then up to 300 a day, within a few days of upping the dose, she has been in more pain than ever, crying, agitated, and said she thought she had pain before, but now this is unbearable, they have told
Avatar n tn Regarding the symptoms that you have, they sound like a neuralgia, and more specifically a trigeminal neuralgia. Without being able to get a detailed history an examine you I cannot give you an exact diagnosis. Trigeminal neuralgia is pain that presents in a paroxysmal fashion in the distribution of the trigeminal nerve (frontal region, maxillar region and mandibular region).
Avatar f tn Has anyone on this forum been suffering from Post Herpetic Neuralgia...tongue burning sensation...as a result of trigeminal nerve involvement during a bout of shingles. I've had this since February (shingles in January). Nothing helps relieve it and tried to enroll in a clinical trial, but couldn't because of Chronic Kidney Disease and arthritis pain. Any suggestions for relief would be greatly appreciated. Presently am taking 600 mg of Gabapentin. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn Hi, What you are suffering from seems like Intercostal Neuralgia and I would suggest you to consult a pain consultant for the same and there are some drugs like pregabalin which may help in your case. There are other treatment options also like nerve blocks which may help. Please discuss these with your pain consultant and I sincerely hope and believe that’ll help. Please do keep me posted. Kind regards.
Avatar f tn Sharp pain in the side of face could be due to injury to a nerve or pinched nerve, an infection or a trauma. Hence it could be Trigeminal neuralgia, abscess in tooth, exposed root canal, internal ear infection, maxillary sinusitis, TMJ, migraine, herpes (recurrent) without rash or fibromyalgia localized to face. If the pain is due to TMJ, you will find it linked to either opening your mouth wide or to chewing. Also, touching the swelling on the joint aggravates the pain.

Avatar m tn I'm 21 and male. I was having arm pains which was caused by neck pain for bad posture on computer desk. So I went to the GP (general medicine) and he said the pain is for the neck, and it will go away and asked me to do some static neck exercise and swimming and prescribed 'Pregabalin m-75' to take for 1 month and stop.
1218873 tn?1300091216 Hi i wondered if anyone could explain there experience of Pregabalin (Lyrica?) i have been on Gabapentin for the last 3 months with only a little success (the twitches have reduced considerably) but no relief pain. Now the Dr is going to swap me to Pregabalin which has to be done slowly to switch from one to the other, so this will start as soon as I'm home from holiday. I wondered if anyone had done this and what there experience of the drugs are?
Avatar m tn no it is not arthritis.....my question is....what will happen if she combines the methadone and the pregabalin?...she takes methadone about every other day...a bottle of 130mg methadone will last her almost 5 to 6 days....any info would be helpful.
Avatar f tn Thanks for that, Tuck. I've had a look through PubMed database to see if there have been scientific studies specifically on the question of tolerance, but without joy. As far as I can tell, the main assumption/claim is that because pregabalin is not known to be metabolically active (ie, the liver and body don't metabolise it into other molecules) the patient shouldn't develop tolerance. I am now a bit more sceptical of that claim.
