Avatar f tn Hello I am in the middle of an acute gout attack for the last 36 hours. I have taken 3 500microgram Colchicine tablets 14 hours ago (2 to start then 1 an hour later) but have not seen any relief at all yet, in fact it feels worse. Should I take more colchicine or ibuprofen? I'm not taking any other medication or supplements but have had some apple cider vinegar drinks to see if it would help.
Avatar f tn 3rd day, my doctor prescribed me Prednisone, 4pills for 2 d; 3 pills, etc. BTW, I was diagnosed with gouty arthritis when I was 35 yrs. old. This is the first time that this happened, red, swollen feet on both feet? I thought gouty flare ups attack one joint at a time? How come this one? When blood work, x rays, etc. comes back high uric acid is high. My doctor says that I have severe got arthritis and very minimal osteoarthritis.
543791 tn?1216381777 Is it possible to have Gout without the redness and swelling? I have sudden onset of Toe pains. Mostly beginning at night. I have a burning/throbbing pain and also skin sensitivity around the area. I can be painful to have a sock or bed sheets touching my foot. I've had this occur in both feet and it has attacked different toes. It doesn't really feel like a joint pain so I'm just confused about what is going on. It's very painful but I don't see any visual changes.
107366 tn?1305680375 I have had episodes of gout for more than 10 years now. It wasn't too bad up until about three years ago when I started chemotherapy for cancer. I also have Crohn's disease, and believe it and the gout mean I definitely have issues with auto-immune disorders. In the past 6 months, my Allopurinol has been upped to 300 mg, then to 450 mg per day. I also follow a low purine diet most of the time, but I admit, sometimes I gotta have a steak!
Avatar n tn The doctor I currently have said it started from when I was Taking Prednisone for my Gout. I have since stopped taking Prednisone, and have a new Gout doctor.
Avatar m tn While visiting my regular doctor for my thyroid I asked him if my gout could have been caused by my hep c.He said theres a good chance it did and that he would like to try to ween me off the allopurinol that I have to take everyday now that I am negative. That is scary for me because a gout attack is so bad I just want to hack my big toe off with an axe.Does anybody on here have gout and do you know if hep c can cause it?
Avatar f tn Sorry that you were complicated by this Pericarditis. I know that colchicine (typically used for gout treatment) does show to be successful with Pericarditis. I know that Prednisone has equal results at reducing inflammation surrounding the pericardium.
Avatar m tn WASHINGTON -- The FDA has approved pegloticase (Krystexxa) for treatment of gout in adults who are refractory to standard treatments. Pegloticase is an enzyme that boosts metabolism of uric acid, breaking it down into a harmless chemical that is excreted in urine. The FDA said the drug can be administered every two weeks as an intravenous infusion. The approval was based on results from two six-month long clinical trials that enrolled a total of 212 patients.
541382 tn?1213979801 Find a doc you trust to systematically figure it out. Hopefully, too, you tapered off the Prednisone....and Prednisone can cause weight gain....not tapering off steroids can cause many of your symptoms....just some thoughts for you....
Avatar m tn The Dr immediately concluded that it was a Gout episode and ordered blood tests and an x-ray to make sure no bones were broken or fractured. The blood tests came back with a uric acid level of 7.5; normal readngs for Kaiser are 4.0 to 7.0; I don't remember what the unit of measure these readings refer to though. The other blood results were all normal as was the x-ray. So I was given Colchicine for the next attack along with Prednisone (sp?
Avatar f tn She ran some sort of RA test this last summer and it was negative, but I had just finished a 21-day course of prednisone (tapered from 40 mg) the day before the blood was drawn, which I have heard can throw off results of rheumatic testing. I am not even sure exactly what tests they were. Problem is I am only 32 and a woman. I do not smoke and rarely drink alcohol. I don't understand this, especially if it is gout....
186737 tn?1269884660 In 2001, I had positive rheumatoid factor, nodules, but low ESR. I always have low ESR regardless of how sick I was or what infections I had, etc. After first being seropositive I have since then been negative and my ESR is always like 1 or 2. I get tendonitis all the time and have during the whole time. MRI has shown the tendonitis, so it isn't in my head. MTX keeps it at bay. Prednisone does too, but makes my tendons weak. My first rheumatologist of 5 years said I had Seroneg RA.

Avatar f tn They itch and are bright red. The only thing that seems to help is a steroid shot and prednisone pack. My face and ears will peel almost like a sunburn. Does this happen to anyone out there? If I sweat during the night I will get itchy. Gold Bond medicated powder helps tremendously. Put it on before you go to bed in areas that you sweat. Neck, chest and even on the insides of your elbows. It does help!
Avatar n tn He went to his doctor and was diagnosed with gout. Since then, he only had one gout-like attack (not painful at all) on the toe next to his big one, and only lasted a couple of hours. He isn't complaining about pain or anything, thankfully.. but I am still worried about gout in general.

Avatar f tn ) Asparagus has been on the list for ages, as has shellfish, small oily fish such as sardines and anchovy, organ meat, turkey and red meat. Alcohol is also a no-no. According to the gout website, only 5% of all gout sufferers are women. The test to determine which type you have is to aspirate the fluid from the affected joint during an outbreak. You may not feel this is necessary since the medication is the same for both but the diets are different.
