Avatar m tn I've had GOUT for 7 yrs with attacks every 6 months until last year. Started with 100mg allopurnol last summer. All was quite. Dec had a serious attack and after 1-month of trying Indomethecine then Prednisone I received a cortozone shot and allopurnol was increased to 400mg. Uric acid is now down to 4.6 from a high of 6.9 in Dec.
Avatar n tn How long after I start taking prednisone for a gout attack should i feel marked relief in pain?
107366 tn?1305680375 I have had episodes of gout for more than 10 years now. It wasn't too bad up until about three years ago when I started chemotherapy for cancer. I also have Crohn's disease, and believe it and the gout mean I definitely have issues with auto-immune disorders. In the past 6 months, my Allopurinol has been upped to 300 mg, then to 450 mg per day. I also follow a low purine diet most of the time, but I admit, sometimes I gotta have a steak!
Avatar f tn Sorry that you were complicated by this Pericarditis. I know that colchicine (typically used for gout treatment) does show to be successful with Pericarditis. I know that Prednisone has equal results at reducing inflammation surrounding the pericardium.
Avatar f tn Hello I am in the middle of an acute gout attack for the last 36 hours. I have taken 3 500microgram Colchicine tablets 14 hours ago (2 to start then 1 an hour later) but have not seen any relief at all yet, in fact it feels worse. Should I take more colchicine or ibuprofen? I'm not taking any other medication or supplements but have had some apple cider vinegar drinks to see if it would help.
262527 tn?1285381659 t heard of an oral course of steroids for an exacerbation...only oral prednisone for a weaning dose to ease the symptoms of withdrawal from the IV form of steroid. Sorry no one got back to you but perhaps there is a reason for this such as the oral form not working fast enough to slow the exacerbation? Just a guess from me...hope things work out for you with the IV course though I know it is a pain to have to take 2-3 hours out of your day for it.
Avatar f tn 3rd day, my doctor prescribed me Prednisone, 4pills for 2 d; 3 pills, etc. BTW, I was diagnosed with gouty arthritis when I was 35 yrs. old. This is the first time that this happened, red, swollen feet on both feet? I thought gouty flare ups attack one joint at a time? How come this one? When blood work, x rays, etc. comes back high uric acid is high. My doctor says that I have severe got arthritis and very minimal osteoarthritis.
Avatar m tn Allopurinol can take 2 weeks or longer to start to work so if you just started, give it some time. It is used to treat to Gout and for people that produce high levels of uric acid. You seem to have bilateral knee issues going on now. Since I don't know anything about you, age, activity level etc it is difficult to get a true understanding of why this is happening to you.
543791 tn?1216381777 t have gout but I know that it is possible to have a condition without an exact match for the usual symptoms. How long has your toe been hurting? Have you tried the gout diet - low purine foods? Does anything you do make it better or have you noticed something that causes it to get worse?
Avatar n tn The doctor I currently have said it started from when I was Taking Prednisone for my Gout. I have since stopped taking Prednisone, and have a new Gout doctor.
Avatar m tn While visiting my regular doctor for my thyroid I asked him if my gout could have been caused by my hep c.He said theres a good chance it did and that he would like to try to ween me off the allopurinol that I have to take everyday now that I am negative. That is scary for me because a gout attack is so bad I just want to hack my big toe off with an axe.Does anybody on here have gout and do you know if hep c can cause it?
198419 tn?1360242356 I had a lot of energy, and felt warmish all the time - but my heart rate was pretty normal, for me. I was on it for three weeks during my last flare.
Avatar f tn How can you ask IF prednisone is safe for a cat than go on to state you can give advice on dosages.....
1523893 tn?1301579774 Last week my neuro put me on a 3 day dose of Prednisone to hopefully offset the flare I was in the middle of. He put me on 3 days of oral pred, quite a huge dose (25 pills per day, each being 50 mg). I took my three days worth of pills hoping I would see a difference, but have yet to feel any better. In fact I am worse and I am wondering if I should see a physician about my symtoms. Weight gain, no energy, facial swelling, horrible fog, painful skin on my neck and shoulders.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Certain precautions that your physician would be taking care of are, using the lowest possible dose, for the shortest time, alternate day dosing can be followed if possible, and gradual withdrawal to limit the adrenal suppression. Usually a treatment for more than 3 weeks is taken as long term. I cannot advise the dose, which can cause neurological symptoms and side effects. Consult your physician for the needful in your case. Take care.
Avatar n tn Hello~I am 53 years old I have been diagnosed with gout even though a blood test for uric acid came out negative. I have had terrible inflammation in my metatarsal phalangeal joint and the smaller joint closer to the tip of my big toe. I have had a cortisone shot in each. I don't drink, eat shellfish and have a mostly plant based diet. I do have hypertension however and am terrified that maybe I have hurt my kidneys because I take the lowest dose of hypertension medicine.
608104 tn?1352587153 November 10 2012 Finally realized that,as a 70 year crone with "mild cognitive disordered" older brain, that dosing with prednisone for viral respiratory infection results in mood swings not well stabilized. I then join new clubs excited to meet wonderful people until the side effects wear off. I expected diagnosis of viral infections with treatment with anti-viral medications. I got my Fluzone influenza vaccine last month and.a TDAP booster. TDAP is not covered by Medicare.
Avatar n tn I just finished my Hepc treatment after six months and I feel great, except for one thing; I have gout. This started 2 weeks after the treatment. I've been to the doctor for this , the pain has subsided but I'm still limping. I've stopped taking the prescriptions and trying the natural stuff. It seems to be working but ever so slow. Excersize seems to help also. I suggest to keep moving and do not let it get the best of you.
541382 tn?1213979801 I went to the doc 7/7/08, I have gout in left ankle (x-ray confirmed), also have a chest cold (but it is summertime). My new doc said my thyroid is swollen. This is the third time this year it has swollen up, but I was only put on Prednisolone by my ex-doctor (which is why she is no longer my current doc). So this new doc wants me to get an ultrasound on my thyroid to see why it's swollen. My grandmother has hypothyroidism & takes meds for it. I think I just have bad genetics.
Avatar m tn The other blood results were all normal as was the x-ray. So I was given Colchicine for the next attack along with Prednisone (sp?) to reduce the swelling and Vicodin (5mg)/Acetominiphin (500mg) for the pain. I have a follow-up with my regular MD on 5/9/12 to review these results. Now that I've said all this, is "7.5" considered really really high or just slightly above normal?
Avatar m tn He is on Denamarin ¼ tablet for small to mediun dogs, 1 Prednisone tablet 5mg in the morning, ½ 250mg Metronidazole pill in the morning, and ¼ Prilosec in the morning! At night he only gets ¼ Prilosec! He has been holding his own for about a year now. Yesterday he started the head tilt and really stiff walking. He pants and drinks lots of water. He was diagnosed with high liver enzymes. He does also have some mouth/teeth problems but can’t go under the anesthesia to get a dental!
444337 tn?1428073510 Two weeks on Harvoni and have had a low grade fever for a week. i've also had a brutal case of gout in both feet for about the same time for which I cannot take pain medication. don't know if the gout is causing the fever or the tx. currently bedridden and cannot walk at all. kidney doc said I can't take anything for the gout or fever and I'm in pure misery. only sleep a couple of hours a night.
Avatar f tn Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! Generalized body edema (or swelling) can be very serious. It can be due to severe anemia, a failing heart, serious kidney disease, liver failure or disorder, electrolyte imbalance, polycystic ovary, low protein in the blood, and disorders of adrenal gland. This is something for which you must consult a doctor ASAP (as you did, but discuss these now), preferably an internal medicine specialist. Take care!
