Avatar f tn He put her on more Metrozindale, Prednisone and something for her gut. But then she started to bleed from the tip of the ears. The vet said it was vasculitis and he tested her for tick titers. But the tick titers have come back negative. What could possibly be wrong with this poor dog? What other diagnostics should be run?
158939 tn?1274915197 1 My endo (who is also a PhD in biochemistry) said that the prednisone would have skewed the labs slightly but would have skewed them down (meaning that my TSH is actually higher). He said my problem is an absorption problem probably caused by all of my GI surgeries and GI bleeds. I was also switched from Armour to a compounded natural thyroid a month ago because of the worldwide Armour shortage and we aren't sure the compound is working so I'm back on Synthroid with Cytomel.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I have rectal pain and blood- when I have a bowel it seems to improve my wheezing near my stomach and GERD and I feel better. Prednisone also helps and when I take it I often have a bowel movement.
1403958 tn?1300023491 There are several meds I will need prescribed by my primary due to being without a GI doctor. They are pressuring me to find a GI doctor and last month they said they would only write my scripts once. Why? This causes me stress and putting the pressure on me will just make my Crohn's flare. My Oncologist said that it's the responsibility of my PCP to help me find a GI dr. and also to prescribe needed meds until I'm established with a new GI dr. What do you think?
Avatar m tn The back pain is so bad that I have trouble walking and sleeping. My GI has run all the test and found nothing and is not sure if it is related to the UC however when the back pain gets the area of my colitis also flares up. Does anyone know if this back pain can be associated with the Colitis? Or has anyone had this symptom before? Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated since I couldn't get any answers from the hospital GI team.
Avatar n tn Previcox and Prednisone should not be given together. This combination increases the danger of gastrointestinal ulceration and other problems which can be dangerous. Benadryl should be safe, but it can rarely cause breathing problems. Prednisone can also cause increased panting. Previcox can be safely used with Tramadol (another analgesic), if the Previcox is insufficient alone. Put your dog on 5mg. of Pepcid twice daily to try and prevent GI issues. Pepcid is available over the counter.
Avatar n tn My mom is in the hospital for a GI bleed from cirrhosis and is hallucinating really bad (probably withdrawals from only quitting drinking the night of her GI bleed). They aren't giving her any medication to help her sleep or relax. Is this the right thing to do.
Avatar f tn liver disease all can cause weakness and fatigue. Anxiety and depression can also cause generalized weakness and fatigue. Take a balanced diet and take adequate rest. A clinical examination and work up for above mentioned causes may be helpful See a pyhsician. He may further refer you to a specialist depending on the clinical examination findings. Do keep me posted. Best luck and regards!

Avatar f tn When reported bleeding to PCP, told call insurance for GI Dr. Insurance company sent me to ER. ER did CT w/ contrast. Found I have hyperemia of rectal sigmoid colon. I still had to push for Colonoscopy. Still bleeding after 5 days of 50mg prednisone. Preliminary diagnosis proctocolitis. I'm concerned, what is going on?
Avatar f tn I HAVE HAD LUPUS SINCE THE AGE OF 15 AND I AM NOW 25- MY LUPUS HAS BEEN IN REMISSION FOR ALMOST 4 YEARS NOW, BUT I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING PERSISTENT VOMITING AND DIARRHEA FOR THE PAST 2 MNTHS. i HAVE BROUGHT IT UP TO MY DR AND HE STATES THAT MANY PEOPLE WITH LUPUS CAN DEVELOP STOMACH ULCERS, ESPECIALLY IN MY CASE, SINCE I HAVE TAKEN PREDNISONE FOR 10 YEARS+.
Avatar m tn If bleeding/ hemorrhage is suspected as a cause, further investigation to look at the cause of bleeding can be planned. For GI bleeding upper and lower GI endoscopies may be suggested as primary investigations. I would suggest discussing the situation and the suggested management plan in detail with your treating doctor. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn This is important as it can damage your liver very quickly. The treatment is normally prednisone and an immunosuppressive drug called azathioprine (Imuran). Normally you would start out with prednisone of up to 60 mg daily and azathioprine of 100 mg daily to saturate the liver, then gradually reduce the doseage. Remission normally occurs in 80% of the cases. Sometimes it takes up to two years.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Thanks very much for your help! Please help me I've been having bleeding for over 10 years with bowel movements and had a colonoscopy but the GI said I don't have Crohn's/UC and have hemmarhoids/GERD. I've used HC 25mg suppositories but I keep bleeding every month or two (bright or sometimes darker red blood) and have trouble breathing, relaxing which improves after prednisone/HC.
Avatar f tn Just had cataract surgery due to the prednisone (recovering very well). I am so upset over the stomach pains and the diarrhea.I did take a Phayzme to help, but I think it did more damage than help. When the spasms occur I can not even sit down or lay down. Any clues as to what might be the problem? What should I do? Previously when I mentioned this to my doctor she always just said my expanding middle section (abdomen is due to my prednisone). Please give me some advice. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I did have a few experiences with sudden bleeding. Before I started on the prednisone, I had open, draining cysts that stayed open and draining and showed no signs of healing. Perhaps this was because of the dressing I was wrapping the breast in each each day (I thought I was doing the right thing and I still I think so).
Avatar n tn My wife was diagnosed as colitis and the doc suggested using prednisone. She is now 16-week pregnency. We are worried about the effects on Kids. Does anyone have similar experience and give us some suggestion? Thanks a lot.
277836 tn?1359666174 Okay went to the Dr last thursday a GI dr he did a colon on me a few months back and found out I had an inflamed large intestine. So he started me on ascaol that didnt help at all.
Avatar n tn He was taken to the vet that evening and given a vitamin k and prednisone shot and re-hydrated. They have had him on doxycyline and prednisone tablets since then and before we give him those, he is given a carifate tablet to soothe his stomach. He seemed to be doing well until yesterday (November 6) when he has started to throw up blood again (dark red) and won't eat and has no energy.
Avatar m tn Approx 1 yr ago, she had an upper GI bleed (dark stool) and required several units of blood. She was taken off Coumadin and stroked; symptoms . She was treated within 30 minutes with intravenous TPA, with near 100% recovery. Coumadin was restarted. 11 months later, Mom experienced trace bright red blood with diarrhea. INR/PT within normal range, and blood count was good. She was admitted and diagnosed with colitis.
Avatar n tn My husband has been having moderate abdominal pain since Sunday night after a BM. He went to the ER where they did a CT scan and bloodwork (WBC, RBC, electrolytes, etc), in which everything was normal. He was discharged home. He was taking prednisone 10mg TID since that Saturday am (now d/c), so the hospital thought maybe the pain was due to the steroids. However, now being Thursday, he's still in pain. He said the pain was a 10 on Monday, and is now a 6.
Avatar f tn The hematologist wants to watch my labs weekly for six more weeks, get me completely off prednisone, and keep an eye on my platelets, then talk about an upper GI. Three different opinions from each doctor. I am going to go with watching labs weekly for six weeks. Your thoughts? Thank you!
Avatar f tn Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! If your stools are dark and you taste blood in mouth and the taste has altered, then your reflux is not under control. Also you have an active GI bleed either in food pipe or stomach or first part of intestine. If neglected, this can turn serious. Omeprazole alone is not helping you. You will need a combination of acid and reflux reducing drugs. Also some life style changes you will need to follow. Avoid heavy meals and eat frequent small meals.
Avatar n tn blood in stools, also known as melaena and indicates the presence of blood (oxidized haemoglobin) from an upper GI bleed. Causes could be infections, inflammation, gastric/ GI ulcers, oesophageal varices, GI growths/ polyps, a-v malformations, varices, diverticulosis, fistulas, fissures, AV malformation, GI ischaemia and necrosis, bleeding disorders etc. Without further evaluation it would be difficult to differentiate between the causes.
Avatar f tn An endoscopy and colonoscopy were performed and both were negative. No further GI studies were done, and I was discharged. While in the hospital, my blood values showed very low WBC and low neutrophils. I was referred to a hemotologist who has monitored me since then. All my blood counts since June 2009 have shown the same results, low wbc and low neutrophils (absolute). Otherwise, I have been healthy with no increase in infections.
