Avatar n tn My daughter who is now 8 years old has had a problem with compulsive behavior. I have actually been talking to doctors about my concerns since she was a newborn. It all started when I was pregnant with her (Yes Really). She was my second born and I waited 4 years to get pregnant again. My first symptom, I was so hungry in my pregnancy with her I waould eat literally every 15 minutes. I woke during the night to eat atleast 6 times if not more.
Avatar n tn no its not compulsive behavior, from drinking ,gambling or drugs.
Avatar n tn It is important to distinguish whether this staring at feet is a ritualistic compulsive behavior or an obsessive compulsive behavior or disorder (OCD). In ritualistic compulsive behavior, the behavior first starts at around 18 months to 2 years of age and peaks at 2-3 years of age. Thereafter this behavior dies its own death. However, an OCD persists and requires treatment. It is difficult to diagnose this on net. To begin with please consult his pediatrician.
Avatar n tn I think your hunch is likely correct that anger is surfacing that was previously being dissolved in alcohol. I don't think it is compulsive behavior, but it is a real problem and unlikely to go away on its own. Does the EAP program offer couples therapy and would he do that?
Avatar f tn At this age, no it isn't likely that she would have more than one compulsion. Compulsions often develop and feed on each other - and come and go in waves. Nail picking to the extent that you describe is pretty classic compulsive behavior. Have you searched the net for "nail picking" - I just did, and there's a lot of good information out there. Best wishes.
424839 tn?1268186246 The counselor should warn the patient against transferring addictive behaviors, because compulsive behavior does not allow one to exercise free choice. It may not be drug use, but it is compulsive behavior nevertheless and therefore not within the individual's control. The replacement of one's drug addiction with another compulsive behavioral pattern will not lead to true sobriety in the long run.
Avatar f tn m going to have to go through my supplements and meds. The only new med is the Pramipexole .05 twice a day (Mirapex). The supplements are Sam-E, D 2000, A and Magnesium 250 twice a day. I'm going to cut the Pramipexole to once a day. Does anyone see if any one of these would cause this or is there a virus going around?
Avatar m tn May I ask what age group we are talking about, it is possible they are copying each other like kids do ..Chewing cotton shirt cuffs seems to be a common problem .

Avatar n tn My son is 9. He was diagnosed ADHD combined type with compulsive destructive(?) disorder. He is not on any prescription med's. He does however take vitamin supplements for memory, focus and concentration and Calm Child for the evenings to help wind him down for bed. He is very very smart and artistic. He is an avid reader. My son is very tender hearted and takes everything personally, good or bad. But he has another side that comes out of nowhere and we are losing control of it.
Avatar m tn Has anyone tried Pramipexole (Mirapex, Mirapexin, Sifrol) for chronic pain? I have had low back pain for about 15 years now. I finally got someone to do an MRI back in June (I think, it was slightly before summer 2016) and they found a herniated disc at L4-L5 and a degenerated disc at L5-S1. The neurosurgeon decided surgery wasn't worth the risk and pain treatment was the best option.
Avatar f tn Has anyone used a patch? The only med I take is pramipexole.
652671 tn?1353712165 I just get fixated on one thing that is NOT perfect and I have to make it that way. I just have to or else. Talk about compulsive behavior ... I (for no good reason other than I saw it) meticulously and perfectly organized my entire linen closet. I refolded every single blanket, sheet, pillow case and towel and separated them into categories and sub categories. Why? I have no idea other than the sense of accomplishment.
Avatar f tn The other part of this is that this might be something psychological -- most compulsive behavior is. You might be doing this to hide from something else, or because your life is unfulfilling. If that's the case talking to a psychologist might help you see what's missing.
Avatar f tn I have been feeling spiritual anxiety to the point of obsession for one year now. I even have the sensation of getting an "evil smile" where I fear I'm going to smile at horrible situations. I dot know if I'm turning evil or if I'm OCD. My doctor thinks I might be OCD as I filled out the questionnaire but I don't have compulsive behavior other than over or under eating tendencies. I constantly obsess that I'm becoming evil.

172023 tn?1334672284 Hoarding, specifically, is a perplexing subset of the anxiety and compulsive behavior spectrum. It is one that is particularly hard to treat, and has a high rate of relapse. There are many people suffering alone with this disorder, and many more whose families are devasted by it, emotionally, physically, and financially. I think it would be a worthwhile community.
Avatar n tn Over the years I suffered from restless energy and did not focus very well. Now at 33 I suffered bouts of compusive behavior such as excessive gambling (everyday for years), smoking ciggareetes, poor eating habits (sometimes I forget to eat), over working at my job, (I would work-after hours and became obseesed with my work) and having impulse control issues where if I want something I need it now. My OCD is a wierd one I have a fear of contracting HIV which turns my life up-side down.
Avatar n tn I dont think nose strips are addicting - sounds more like obessive compulsive disorder to me.. but Im not a doctor...sorry I couldnt be morehelpful, but do suggest she see a doctor for this behavior.
Avatar n tn ve always had mild obsessive-compulsive disorder, but for the last couple of months---classes starting and new job--- it has been out of control. My primary "thing" is to constantly stretch the skin between my fingers and toes, and two weeks ago it reached a point where they actually started to bleed. My doctor put me on 10mg of fluoxetine (in addition to the 300mg of bupropion I take for depression), but it doesn't seem to be helping.

Avatar f tn My understanding on this subject differs from Nusegirl. OCD traditionally at least isn't intrusive thoughts, it's obsessing to the point of performing repetitive behaviors -- it's not just obsessive thinking, it's also compulsive behavior. If you're just having obsessive thoughts, you don't have OCD, you have anxiety or depression.
