Common Questions and Answers about Mirapex and compulsive behavior

mirapex

Avatar n tn My daughter who is now 8 years old has had a problem with compulsive behavior. I have actually been talking to doctors about my concerns since she was a newborn. It all started when I was pregnant with her (Yes Really). She was my second born and I waited 4 years to get pregnant again. My first symptom, I was so hungry in my pregnancy with her I waould eat literally every 15 minutes. I woke during the night to eat atleast 6 times if not more.
Avatar n tn I thought you were talking about me there! As a child I had thought processes all of my own just like you describe with the walking avoiding cracks and only on certain colour tiles. In the days of patterned carpets, I used to annoy a few family members as I tiptoed from floral swirl to green leaf! I can't remember all of them now because I think I grew out of them (I am normal, honest!) It might seem compulsive but I just liked doing it.
Avatar n tn He does however take vitamin supplements for memory, focus and concentration and Calm Child for the evenings to help wind him down for bed. He is very very smart and artistic. He is an avid reader. My son is very tender hearted and takes everything personally, good or bad. But he has another side that comes out of nowhere and we are losing control of it. My son gets very aggressive for no real reason. If it makes him mad, he is set off like a rocket.
Avatar n tn I am saying one addresses any compulsive behavior the same way, whether it is masturbation or something else about which they are compulsive. They seek counsel and therapy, and do things that keep them from the temptation.
1445594 tn?1287146063 The behavior is compulsive but nothing to be overly concerned with. I would not use the as an exercise method but your pet may be predisposed to other compulsive behaviors.
Avatar n tn In ritualistic compulsive behavior, the behavior first starts at around 18 months to 2 years of age and peaks at 2-3 years of age. Thereafter this behavior dies its own death. However, an OCD persists and requires treatment. It is difficult to diagnose this on net. To begin with please consult his pediatrician. Engage your child in other activities he loves to divert his attention away from your feet. Please discuss with his doctor. Take care!
1390101 tn?1281000559 Wow Kraz - I am sorry that you have had to deal with the problem from Mirapex. I too have RLS and have been on Mirapex for about 2 years, but fortunately have not had a problem with gambling. I am an addict, but have been doing good with that too. Interesting though, your post made me think, there are other things that if I really look at it, I probably do in excess - and have been doing more since on Mirapex. Wonder if there is a connection there.
Avatar n tn I think your hunch is likely correct that anger is surfacing that was previously being dissolved in alcohol. I don't think it is compulsive behavior, but it is a real problem and unlikely to go away on its own. Does the EAP program offer couples therapy and would he do that?
Avatar f tn I would also talk to his pediatrician about this and see what his doctor has to say about it. some compulsive behaviors are born out of a childs inability to deal with stress and they can follow him into adult life. my husband is a compulsive hair puller and he started it when he was 12 yrs old and still does it. some repetative behaviors indicate mild autism. this is why you should talk to your pediatrician about it. it could just be a phase of something that will pass.
Avatar f tn At this age, no it isn't likely that she would have more than one compulsion. Compulsions often develop and feed on each other - and come and go in waves. Nail picking to the extent that you describe is pretty classic compulsive behavior. Have you searched the net for "nail picking" - I just did, and there's a lot of good information out there. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn My son is 13 and still does this can anyone offer help?
Avatar n tn sometimes you are detached from reality so you admit that things weren't true later or that you think that perhaps you lied a lot in those days. so it's part of BP and it occurs often to me. The problem isn't this, but the difficulty comes from whether you were lying truly i.e. deliberately or that you thought you might have been lying in the sense that matters weren't exactly the way you thought they were, this is the illness unfortunately. it's complicated !!
279948 tn?1241270076 I have read the awful side effects of behavior with Mirapex and also think anything that works on the dopamine in your brain is risky and they warn of gambling or other things, like shopping. That is me. I like to look nice and shop too much. I use a walker and handcontrols on my car - somehow, I think my style counteracts the walker and the hand controls. Crazy, ins't it?. The last five years before I retired was before Mirapex and it was literally HELL.

Avatar f tn t want to question your doctors decision to have you on adderall and mirapex. On the other hand IF and only if your diagnosis is Major depression (either uni-polar or bi-polar) then I do find those two medications very unusual for any Psychiatrist to prescribe. First off, Adderall is a central nervous system stimulant. It affects chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control.
749148 tn?1302860959 hands... she prescribed Mirapex. I have not started it yet and wondered if anyone out there is using this medication and what your thoughts are. She recommended a TENS unit for the rib pain I guess it's caused from a miss-firing message between my spinal cord and my brain, even though no lesions showed on my thoracic MRI doesn't mean they are not there...hummmm.
652671 tn?1353712165 I just get fixated on one thing that is NOT perfect and I have to make it that way. I just have to or else. Talk about compulsive behavior ... I (for no good reason other than I saw it) meticulously and perfectly organized my entire linen closet. I refolded every single blanket, sheet, pillow case and towel and separated them into categories and sub categories. Why? I have no idea other than the sense of accomplishment.
Avatar f tn The other part of this is that this might be something psychological -- most compulsive behavior is. You might be doing this to hide from something else, or because your life is unfulfilling. If that's the case talking to a psychologist might help you see what's missing.
Avatar n tn If he is OK from the medical standpoint, I would set a very firm limit on the behavior and discipline him via time out (ten minutes sitting in a chair) if he violates the limit.
Avatar f tn I have been feeling spiritual anxiety to the point of obsession for one year now. I even have the sensation of getting an "evil smile" where I fear I'm going to smile at horrible situations. I dot know if I'm turning evil or if I'm OCD. My doctor thinks I might be OCD as I filled out the questionnaire but I don't have compulsive behavior other than over or under eating tendencies. I constantly obsess that I'm becoming evil.
Avatar f tn Any Ideas on how to deal with an 11 year old with ADHD and Obcessive Compulsive Disorders and also suffers depression? I have had her on several meds and so far only stratera helps and she is enrolled in special classes and programs to help her both in and out of school and she still can be a hand ful at times. She did have bad lead poisoning when she was a baby and had to have a special diet and medical care and almost had to be hospitalized.
172023 tn?1334672284 Hoarding, specifically, is a perplexing subset of the anxiety and compulsive behavior spectrum. It is one that is particularly hard to treat, and has a high rate of relapse. There are many people suffering alone with this disorder, and many more whose families are devasted by it, emotionally, physically, and financially. I think it would be a worthwhile community.
Avatar n tn With with these setbacks I have luckily Forest Gumped my way in life getting a degree and great job and relationship but I feel these thoughts and impulse behavior has a major effect on my productivity and my relationships. Your feedback will be most welcome.
574118 tn?1305135284 I do know that taking an antidepressant without a mood stabilizer can cause mania, also I take Mirapex (a dopamine drug) to help treat my fibro and I'm under "special watch" because the dopamine meds can cause mania even in people that aren't bipolar. My husband was taking Mirapex as well for his fibro and he had to stop because it made him feel manic, and he's not bipolar. So I can't speak for the seratonin, but the dopamine can definitely make someone manic.
