pneumonia

Avatar n tn Antibiotics are not effective against viruses. Treatment is supportive.
Avatar n tn Buddy was diagnosed with pneumonia and has gone through a course of doggy antibiotics and 3 courses of human antibiotics. The right lung is full of fluid. He would get better, then be energetic and get worse. It was suggested that he may not have pneumonia but CHF. Is there anything to do to help him. The vet doesn't seem to have any suggestions. Would a diuretic help? He's starting to not eat now.
Avatar f tn Go get yourself some medicine I had bronchitis 8 weeks ago and after 3 antibiotics, 1 breathing treatment, & 2 inhalers we thought I was fine but I have been really sick for a week now and went to the ER today because I was dehydrated and thought my kids had given me the flu, turns out I have pneumonia.
Avatar n tn Hi bibban12, The thing about pneumonia is it's just a broad term for lung inflammation, and the air sacs filling up with fluid, but it isn't a specific diagnosis of what caused the pneumonia.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with pneumonia today and I've been getting radiation for my left breast for cancer for the last three weeks. First, did the radiation weaken my lungs to make me getting pneumonia easier? Secondly should I continue with the radiation while taking antibiotics or wait until I'm over the medicine or just the 48 hours that the doctor said I would be contagious?
Avatar f tn My husband had C-Diff after antibiotics for pneumonia. Flagyl helped within 48hrs, but then a week later, he relapsed. This is rare, from what I read. My husband happens to be the lucky one. Once he relapsed, they put him on vancomycin, which is a somewhat dangerous antibiotic (as far as side effects). However, the vancomycin kicked it in about 24-48 hrs for good. I can safely tell you -get some probiotics from the health food store, or it can be prescribed from your doc.
Avatar m tn m an adult, but never hives with the pneumonia. You might want to speak with a different DR.
1444593 tn?1284397979 My son is 3 months old and is congested with a slight runny nose. 2 weeks ago he was giving antiobiotics and a nebulizer. At first it helped but now he seems to be coughing more and he has a runny nose again and the snot is green which is a sign of infection right? He sounds like he is trying to hack up a nasty goober. Sorry of that is TMI but that is the best I can describe it. Is this normal?
250084 tn?1303307435 I got really much better two days after I was finished with the meds. My experience with antibiotics is that it always takes a few days after finishing treatment before one actually feels better. But if you don't, be sure to go back to your doctor, as you may need more or maybe a different kind of antibiotics. I hope you get well fast... Marcia P.S. My Mom had leukemia and was thus prone to pneumonia. It happened twice that she had to change antibiotics, as the one used was not working.

Avatar f tn t want to battle with my doctor (who is a huge advocate of levaquin), but it seems that levaquin is not the right direction for me (I am allergic to penicillin), even if I were to develop pneumonia, which, with the corticosteroids, is also an increasing possibility. Do you have any further insight on this for me? Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn you need to go to the Doctor and find out why you are having trouble taking a deep breath and then depending on what the diagnosis is that will depend on what treatment you receive For example of you have pneumonia then the treatment would be antibiotics and maybe other stuff life steroids and breathing treatments, I'm not saying that's what you have though the only way to know what is going on is to get checked out by your MD Hope you feel better soon
Avatar f tn It sounds like a cold virus, but you could have Mycoplasma or Chlamydia pneumonia? You can have some tightness with that and low grade or no fever. Usually, you have a dry cough and sometimes can have pain in the rib area and dry cough. It lasts about 1-2 months and usually follows a cold or flu. Sometimes it is resistant to some antibiotics. But it often goes away on its own. They call it "walking pneumonia." Did your CT come back yet?
Avatar f tn 3 weeks on doxicycline and a week on azithromyacin and I still have a fever and infection (Was diagnosed with A-typical pneumonia). I also have a lymphnode that is much larger and more prominent than any others and has been for a few months but does not hurt. I had my blood counts checked and my WBC is high (14.0) even after all of the antibiotics. My TSH level has also gone up to 38.6 again creating massive exhaustion.
Avatar n tn I recently had my puppy who was less than 2 years old pass away from aspiration pneumonia. I tried everything from antibiotics to oxygen therapy and nebulization treatment. Unfortunately, he just couldn't handle it and 3 days later he was gone. I've been thinking about it the last couple of months and trying to understand what aspiration pneumonia is and how it caused his death. The vet explained to me that aspiration pneumonia is an infection that can feel like a chemical burn.
1901977 tn?1333991726 I was trying to tough it out but my upper respiratory infection has moved down into my chest and with my asthma, the doctor is really worried about it turning into pneumonia and just put me on the "Z-Pack" (Azithromycin)antibiotics. I'm in my 12th week right now, and really worried about taking them. But the doctor says if my breathing goes bad or I get pneumonia that's much worse for the baby...so I just took my first dose tonight.
Avatar m tn Dear all, I have just completed my 5th dose of interferon (180mg) and most unfortunately I have been diagnosed with pneumonia this morning. The respiratory doctor suspected that it is due to low WBC as a result of interferon treatment and so she ordered some blood tests (LFT, WBC etc) and the result will be available within these few days. The question is whether I should continue the interferon treatment when I am fighting the pneumonia. Your kind advice is very much appreciated.
1472764 tn?1287588186 When I had pneumonia with my daughter, I was on antibiotics to clear it up and everything was fine. I was just put on amoxicillin for a dental infection. Both amoxicillin and the medication in your z-pack (I'm assuming that is what you are taking?) are both Pregnancy Category B and considered safe during pregnancy. I even specifically asked my Pharmacist and she assured me it is safe.
242516 tn?1368223905 The flu has passed epidemic rates in much of the country, and if you don't have a cold, I'm sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread.
1618318 tn?1318196283 I have been diagnosed with pneumonia. I have swallowing disorders that put me at risk for aspiration pneumonia. Are there any tests that can be done to differentiate the type of pneumonia? I have had several xrays done on my chest and was put on antibiotics.
Avatar f tn doctor decided the blood tests support mycoplasma as a diagnosis.. i am not convinced and the symptoms don't really line up with what i read, plus he was on antibiotics most of the late winter and early spring..
Avatar f tn night sweats. My doctor diagnosed me with pneumonia and prescribed levofloxacin. Levofloxacin was taken from 02/24 to 03/02. I was supposed to be ovulating from 02/23 to 03/01, peak time being around the 28th. My period was due on 03/14 and it still has not arrived. I have taken two pregnancy tests which came out negative. I haven't had sex since March of 2013 but my significant other and I messed around on 03/05 and I grinded naked along his private area where there was some pre-***.
