Avatar m tn Its the same chemicals but the original drug maker has lost their patent rights. Patent rights are a method to help the orginal maker recover research and develpment costs. Thanks for your question. Take care.
315318 tn?1353251800 Well, plavix is coming off patent next year so the cost should come down substantially. In my case though, I got a DES placed in my LAD in December 2009. My cardio said, I am not responsive to Plavix, but not to worry. Start taking this new related medication called Effient. Effient, however, comes with greater chance of bleeding and it is expensive.
Avatar n tn I wrote on 4/6 re my wife was diagnosed w/ spasming arteries after a recent cath that showed patent new stents (5 wks) and patent LIMA & SVG grafts post CABG (1 yr 4 mos). You wrote to take my wife to the E.R. after I explained she had a terrible bout with angina a day earlier. She wasn’t feeling worse and spoke with the Dr (who ignored her symptoms the week before) and as it turns out you were correct!
Avatar f tn I am soon to 26 and have had migraines since I was 10 or so. I always have a visual aura and then I lose vision in my left eye. I have tried imitrex, zomig and I am currently on topomax. Mostly normal I have a small Arnold-Chiari variant. I work full time at the local hospital.
Avatar f tn I'm 54, female, and have hypertension, shortness of breath, dizziness, and fatigue. I went blind in one eye for several hours and then again for only a few minutes and was diagnosed as having a TIA and went on Plavix. An event monitor showed I had many PACs, short runs of SVT's and several short Atrial runs. A recent Echocardiogram indicated a possible hole in my heart.
Avatar n tn hx of htn, treated with meds, all vital signs within normal limits. all other coronary arteries patent with no plaque seen. my question is this- what may have caused this, what is long-term outlook-does stress play any role in this?

Avatar f tn This drug is basically equivalent to Plavix - but much cheaper to buy. Of course, you really need to discuss all medications with your physician and determine the risks and benefits to you.

Avatar n tn Most everything lasts a while past expiration before deterioration, including food. Expiration dates have a margin of safety built in. That being said, the above is true, but vitamins usually have way more that anyone needs in them so a little deterioration in potency isn't that big a deal depending on why you're taking them. After all, much of them just goes down the toilet anyway, so again, a margin of safety is built in there, too.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Plavix 75 MG daily. A recent plavix test showed it was not helping. Now my PA has me on 150 MG Plavix. I really bleed when scratched now. Should I take the Plavix test again to see if the increased dossage is working? I am also taking 325 mg asprin.
152264 tn?1280354657 There should be an expiration date on the package--if its expired then I would not use it; pesticides can break down and become less effective or more toxic with time.
Avatar m tn Did your doctor determine that you risk was so high that he wanted you on Plavix long term, these are the only circumstances that using Plavix long term would be.
255163 tn?1376869746 My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. If neither Dr gives in what do I do? If I have an attack and end up in the ER wouldn't they have to do emergency sugery?. Does this mean that anyone on plavix can never have surgery unless it's an ermergency. What is your opinion on going off plavix temporarily for surgery. I would welcome anyones advice.
Avatar f tn I had an MI in '05, and had a RCA stent placed. I was on plavix apox. 4 yrs because of family hx and my paranoia of another MI. I recently have been experiencing tingling and numbness in my hands upon awaking and have noticed small spider veins appearing on my thighs. I am a nurse on a MedSurg unit. I am concerned that my stent is becoming occulded. My doctor took me off plavix Jan'10 and kept me on 325 Aspirin.
Avatar n tn My cardiologist would not let my dentist allow me to stop taking Plavix for even 5 days to alleviate my pain due to a cavity .The dentist is bent upon my discontinuing Plavix to enable filling of the cavity or do root canal to solve the problem.
