Per my cardiologist a by-pass is out of the question for the same reason. My only hope is to try to come up with a way to avoid the scar tissue buildup that causes the heart problems.

My husband smoked years ago (a pipe) but hasn't smoked since he developed asthma at age 39. We don't live at high altitudes and he doesn't use steroids or take diuretics. Avatar m tn Hence if both ankles are swelling then you will need to get heart function assessed by ECHO and EKG, get kidney and liver function tests done and get a complete blood picture for anemia. Low sodium in blood, hypothyroidism and malabsorption syndromes causing low protein in blood have to be looked into. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining.
Avatar n tn Lovenox is safe if the kidney function is normal. If it is abnormal then the Lovenox therapy need to be monitored with blood tests to check factor Xa. Lovenox can be given to prevent clots in the stents but your wife might need triple antiplatelet therapy with aspirin, Plavix and Pletal (100 mg twice a day).
Avatar m tn I have been taking Plavix 75 MG daily. A recent plavix test showed it was not helping. Now my PA has me on 150 MG Plavix. I really bleed when scratched now. Should I take the Plavix test again to see if the increased dossage is working? I am also taking 325 mg asprin.

And we all know how that one goes--there is a shortage of transplantable kidneys and they go to the people who have been on the list the longest. So get to a kidney doctor now!
Avatar n tn I take 75mg of Plaxi once a day and one 81mg asprin once a day. I have been on Plaxix for 9 years. Can I safely stop taking Plavix and continue with th 81mg of asprin. I did not have a heart attack, I had an agina attack. I had open heart surgery, one bypass in the LAD in 2000. I am bruising very easy lately and wonder if I'm doing more harm than good with the current medications.

Avatar f tn When Dad is in heart failure he needs additional dosages of diaretics. Too much diaretic can effect kidney function and too little will effect heart function. We did see a kidney specialist concerning this, and the primary care physician is in communication with him. Dad also has vascular dementia. I know how hard dealing with memory loss can be for both patient and family. I will keep you all in my prayers.
Avatar n tn It seems plavix is bad for dogs but it also is occasionally used in certain canine cancer treatments. I think (and hope) one pill would not have hurt your dog. By now, you should know if your dog is ok. Please let us know as well!

With your history of lifting things, the pain is more likely due to musculokeletal causes. Warm compresses or pain medications may help. If it persists, evaluation by your doctor may be warranted. Diagnostics such as x-ray of the affected area or ultrasound may need to be done to visualize the structures.
