Common Questions and Answers about Penlac nail

penlac

Avatar m tn Soon after removing the nail tips, I started noticing my nails on my thumbs started to change colors. I went to the dermatologist and they prescribed Penlac to treat the nail fungus. After using Penlac for a while I noticed that it was not working for me. After that, I went back to the dermatologist and they did a culture and they said it was a fungus.
Avatar f tn I might be in the wrong forum as well but I was prescribed lamisil after a positive test for Onychomycosis on my toenails. I was told to take one tablet a day for 3 months. My doctor did check my liver before starting and he called to say everything was normal and to go forth with the treatment. I've heard so many bad things from hair loss, death, loss of taste and I'm so scared.
Avatar n tn I was okay trying to control(possibly) the fungus on my toes and my thumb and index fingernails. Now it needs like what my wife is having(black dot on her thumb) now resembles what I had once upon a time. I don't want her to fight with fungus. I did see a dermatolgist yesterday and she said my toes are likely fungus-related but she had I didn't have enough nail for samples. Prescribed me Penlac(sp?) and asked me to go back when the toenails grow out... I am so confused now.
Avatar f tn The preferred conventional oral treatment is Sporanox pulse therapy daily for a week followed by a three week rest, repeated for three months. A clipped nail sample should be sent for culture before treatment. Expect a 60% to 70% cure rate. It’s unsafe for people with heart disease, may damage the liver, and interacts with other drugs. So your doctor has to watch carefully! Consider tea tree oil, a safe natural over the counter remedy. It’s a powerful antibacterial and antifungal agent.
Avatar f tn This is so frustrating! I can't grow my fingernails out at all, because when I do, parts of my fingernails 'droop' over the tip of my fingers. It's not the entire nail -not like a club nail- it's just parts of the nail. Parts of the nail are straight while other parts of the same nail 'droop.' The mail becomes 'wavy.' Almost as if parts of the nail are stronger than the rest of the nail. All of my fingernails are like this.
1430129 tn?1283281475 Hello, The symptoms are suggestive of fungal infection of the nail. In onychomycosis(nail fungal infection) nail plate can have a thickened, yellow, or cloudy appearance. The nails can become rough and crumbly, or can separate from the nail bed. Topical and oral antifungals are needed which are available under prescription. My sincere advice would be to consult a dermatologist and get a KOH examination of the nail and skin specimen done to confirm the diagnosis.
Avatar m tn Around three years ago, I mashed my left thumb at work. This caused the fingernail to bruise and eventually come off. However, it has never grown back right. It has yellowing underneath the nail, like a fungus which the dermatologist tested for and was negative, and whiteness on top where the nail looks dead, and you can see the new nail underneath. The doctor didn't think I had damaged the nail bed because it was growing out straight, but is funny looking.
Avatar f tn He said it was osteo-arthritis evev when I kept telling him my finger nail was sore and I thought there was infection under the nail. It has gotten worse and now the nail is turning blue around the cuticle and I cannot straighten out the finger. What should I do or what do you think is wrong. It ALL started with the nail problem.
Avatar n tn Hi all, Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. I am a professional guitar player with growing concerns over the health of my fingernails. Over the past 5 years, I have practiced guitar daily on average of 3-4 hrs a day, with 1 hr a day minimum on "off" days. Since the start, I've noticed that the nail bed (and subsequently the overall length of the nail) of my ring finger on the left (guitar fretting) hand has gradually shortened.
Avatar n tn Hi , i closed my car door over my finger nail and it get red then blue over 0.75 of the nail , it wasn't painful so i just thought it is ok , and the nail will grow blew it and will remove the damaged one .
Avatar m tn I have a missing finger nail it recently came off... and the bed of my nail is fully exposed i.e no nail... it is a bit red and sore and sometimes bleeds..... Yesterday i fingered a CSw. I.e i put the finger with no nail in her vagina for a while. My question is... assuming she had HIV and my finger has no nail and sore and bleeding a bit (not at time of exposure) would this pose any hiv risk.... can it be transmitted through the missing nail area.... note that it does bleed sometimes .
Avatar m tn I am afraid that if some one, assuming that he was poz, also stepped on that nail and made his toes bleed, and I stepped on the same nail, if this happened, could I catch HIV from stepping the nail with blood on it? One thing i want to add was we was playing in the daylight, and it was hot and sunshiny. May be this can affect or kill off HIV, right? Thanks a lot for your time.
Avatar m tn And because its at the side of the nail, the nail is kinda touching it so I tried to cut abit of the nail so it wont but it still is. Help pls!

Avatar n tn why is the nail on my left hand ring finger split vertically down the whole nail?
Avatar n tn My dog"s nail is split in two spots on the same nail. It looks inflammed and painful. Should I have a vet remove the nail and what does that entail----it's not like declawing is it?
207091 tn?1337709493 s difficult to assess without looking at the nail. It could be a subungal hematoma, which is merely blood under the nail, or a nail neoplasm (tumor). I would go to the podiatrist to have this checked. Malignant melanoma can appear like a bruised nail. Usuallly bruised nails don't keep getting larger unless you continue to injure it or a vessel under the nail continues to bleed.
Avatar m tn My nail actually eventually grew to the right shape but always was very thick after (CAN cut it with nail scissors though) but is almost like an area between the nail bed and the nail is always there on one side. I just paint them. Keep them trimmed and paint them. Toes are a pain in the butt.
