Common Questions and Answers about Penlac nail lacquer side effects

penlac

Avatar f tn I might be in the wrong forum as well but I was prescribed lamisil after a positive test for Onychomycosis on my toenails. I was told to take one tablet a day for 3 months. My doctor did check my liver before starting and he called to say everything was normal and to go forth with the treatment. I've heard so many bad things from hair loss, death, loss of taste and I'm so scared.
Avatar m tn Soon after removing the nail tips, I started noticing my nails on my thumbs started to change colors. I went to the dermatologist and they prescribed Penlac to treat the nail fungus. After using Penlac for a while I noticed that it was not working for me. After that, I went back to the dermatologist and they did a culture and they said it was a fungus.
Avatar n tn I was okay trying to control(possibly) the fungus on my toes and my thumb and index fingernails. Now it needs like what my wife is having(black dot on her thumb) now resembles what I had once upon a time. I don't want her to fight with fungus. I did see a dermatolgist yesterday and she said my toes are likely fungus-related but she had I didn't have enough nail for samples. Prescribed me Penlac(sp?) and asked me to go back when the toenails grow out... I am so confused now.
Avatar m tn I am 43 years old and high school teacher, about 14 years, during a summer job I was spraying a white pigmented sanding lacquer and a white finish coat with lacquer retarder. I wore a respirator the enter time, but had not protective clothing. In fact, I wore a thin short sleeve cotton shirt. I sprayed in a small enclosed building. I would spry for about five minutes, go outside and waited about fifteen minutes and repeated the process most of the day.
Avatar m tn Hi, What other symptoms are present? I understand your concern regarding this toe nail lesion. This could be due to infection, particularly fungal in nature, as well as nail trauma. It is best that you have this checked by your doctor for proper diagnosis. Direct clinical examination is important. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn t want to thin it out so much that you hit the nail bed. (blood and OUCH) Reducing the nail thickness will enable the cream/lotion/or paint on lacquer to saturate the nail better. This is not something I would advise on fingernails in fact its not something I'd advise at all under normal circumstances.
Avatar m tn I had a vitrectomy for floaters recently and found that I have lacquer cracks through macula in my eye due to myopic degeneration during my 1 month check-up with no CNV, no bleeding etc. Surgeon told me that I am at risk of CNV and asked me to watch for any signs . I still have wavy vision from my surgery and slowly recovering. 1) Is this wavy vision possibly due to lacquer cracks or from the surgery and would possibly go away?
Avatar n tn Hi there and thank you for your reply. I've tried many treatments, as I said, but the gluten free diet has made the most significant change in my hands. The more serious meds (that is, the meds with serious side effects) I'm not interested in taking. My insurance probably wouldn't pay for it anyway. Cheers!
Avatar f tn This treatment has a high risk of psychiatric side effects, you need to find a doctor who is up to date on the treatment and side effects. Search the archives on this forum, its got lots of good discussions and information. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor and was told I had nail fungus and needed Lamisil. One tablet, once a day for 3 months. They took and ran tests of my blood to test my liver and they said all tests came back normal. They went ahead and said to begin taking the medication. I'm 21 and relatively healthy. I'm afraid to take Lamisil though. I've heard the side effects are horrible. Should I be worried?

Avatar f tn The only reason it is preferred while preparing acrylic nails is because of its cost effectiveness. Amongst its side effects are serious skin reactions and deformities in natural nail growth.Your symptoms are complication of these and you need to discuss these with your dermatologist. 907968 tn?1292622204 I just got a refill of my Carvedilol (3.125mg) I take two pills in the morning and two in the evening and it has been this way since August '09. I read the side effects just out of curiosity and I had nothing better to do and what I found was, "Check with your Dr. as soon as possible If you experience cold or numb legs or feet or unusual leg pain". And it goes on to say "Contact your Dr. immediately if you experience....(lists what seems like 10,000 things)...
Avatar f tn I've never heard of any of that. My ob said there are plenty of women who go to the nail salon before giving birth. It doesn't effect your pulse.
Avatar f tn I'm back with another question :-). DS is 11.5 yo, recently diagnosed. He was put on topamax and imitrex for migraines which are supposedly unrelated and are what sent us to the neurologist in the first place. Migraines continue, some tingling in hands and feet, which is likely the topamax. However, today he had a migraine (been on topamax just over three weeks). Once it wore off I took him to school.
Avatar m tn There are also centers that offer laser treatment of intractable fungal infection, although it is as effective as giving oral anti fungal medication, but without the usual side effects of the antifungal pill. It is better that you be seen by a dermatologist so that your problem be accurately addressed. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with myopic degeneration in my right eye, and told that I have a lacquer crack in that eye. I am 40 years old, and as a practicing attorney, am obviously concerned that my condition will either worsen in my right eye, or also develop in my left eye, thus rendering me essentially disabled. Is there any treatment, therapy or surgery available for my condition?
Avatar f tn One point I would like to make clear though is that treatment for fungal nail (onychomycosis) does not need to involve the liver and therfore no damage will be done. Topical tx via a nail paint has none of the side effects that are associated with oral systemic therapy. My advise would be to consult a podiatrist (foot dr), as we have studied 6years of just lower limb conditions compaired to that of 1year of your local GP.
Avatar f tn re pretty funny with all the side effects. I love the one for social anxiaty but the side effects are gas, diarhea, yaun tremers etc. lol yeah, that will make you comfortable in social gatherings.
422425 tn?1307992990 I am having some strange symptoms that I think might be side effects....Just wondering if anyone who has taken it had really weird sleep distubances like funky dreams and feeling like you are drowning. I don't want to quit taking it because it really helps, but this is weird. Just wondering, thought I would post this before asking my DR.
Avatar f tn t getting any side effects. So anyone who is scared to start, take if from me, not everyone gets side effects and the treatment still works even if you don't get side effects. This Friday is my 12 shot and next Thursday is the 12 week test. I'm praying it's undetectable, but feel good that it probably will be since I've responded so well. I do have one question to anyone who can answer, if we are undetectable at 12 weeks do our odds improve from the 50/50 for us type 1a?
Avatar m tn then, she said, the problem with that is the aspirin is not selective in which enzymes it blocks, and will block both the good Cox1 and bad Cox2 enzymes. She said because of this, you run a greater risk of side effects even at low dosage. But because it was a holiday, and the office was not open, she said, that she was fairly comfortable with giving the aspirin , as long as I gave the lowest dosage. The aspirin was to be given with some food to help avoid stomach upset.
