Penlac nail lacquer treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Penlac nail lacquer treatment

penlac

Avatar m tn Soon after removing the nail tips, I started noticing my nails on my thumbs started to change colors. I went to the dermatologist and they prescribed Penlac to treat the nail fungus. After using Penlac for a while I noticed that it was not working for me. After that, I went back to the dermatologist and they did a culture and they said it was a fungus.
Avatar n tn I was okay trying to control(possibly) the fungus on my toes and my thumb and index fingernails. Now it needs like what my wife is having(black dot on her thumb) now resembles what I had once upon a time. I don't want her to fight with fungus. I did see a dermatolgist yesterday and she said my toes are likely fungus-related but she had I didn't have enough nail for samples. Prescribed me Penlac(sp?) and asked me to go back when the toenails grow out... I am so confused now.
Avatar m tn Hi, What other symptoms are present? I understand your concern regarding this toe nail lesion. This could be due to infection, particularly fungal in nature, as well as nail trauma. It is best that you have this checked by your doctor for proper diagnosis. Direct clinical examination is important. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I am 43 years old and high school teacher, about 14 years, during a summer job I was spraying a white pigmented sanding lacquer and a white finish coat with lacquer retarder. I wore a respirator the enter time, but had not protective clothing. In fact, I wore a thin short sleeve cotton shirt. I sprayed in a small enclosed building. I would spry for about five minutes, go outside and waited about fifteen minutes and repeated the process most of the day.
Avatar n tn Seen many dermatologists and have used many, many topicals AND the X-Trac laser treatment but nothing works. (the laster treatment certainly affected my skin but ultimately just made my hands burn and itch but didn't stop the thick skin from forming). Well, prednisone mostly clears it up but only for a few weeks.
Avatar m tn I had a vitrectomy for floaters recently and found that I have lacquer cracks through macula in my eye due to myopic degeneration during my 1 month check-up with no CNV, no bleeding etc. Surgeon told me that I am at risk of CNV and asked me to watch for any signs . I still have wavy vision from my surgery and slowly recovering. 1) Is this wavy vision possibly due to lacquer cracks or from the surgery and would possibly go away?
Avatar n tn she is under the treatment of a retina specialist. He injected a medication to her eye 3 times already with 6 weeks time intervel between each shot. At the last check up he said, the inflammation & the bleeding is gone, but the damage to her retina is permanent. My question is since she is young, a laser surgery or any other treatment will work for her? Should we do anything sooner?
Avatar m tn There is no treatment for "Dry" myopic macular degeneration or lacquer cracks. However either of those can lead to "wet" MMD due to the development of choroidal neovascular membranes. ther treatment for that is intraocular lucentis or avastin or photodynamic therapy. I cannot quantitate the risk. If the other eye is myopic the same amount the risk of the problems occuring there are likely between 20 and 40%..
Avatar f tn The preferred conventional oral treatment is Sporanox pulse therapy daily for a week followed by a three week rest, repeated for three months. A clipped nail sample should be sent for culture before treatment. Expect a 60% to 70% cure rate. It’s unsafe for people with heart disease, may damage the liver, and interacts with other drugs. So your doctor has to watch carefully! Consider tea tree oil, a safe natural over the counter remedy. It’s a powerful antibacterial and antifungal agent.
Avatar m tn Toenails are affected more often than fingernails and occurs primarily in adults, most commonly after 60 years of age. Treatment for a fungal nail infection includes using medications, taking steps to prevent the infection from returning, and removing the affected nail. However, treatment does not work for 20% to 25% of people with the condition. It is important to confirm the diagnosis of onychomycosis by potassium hydroxide (KOH) preparation, culture or histology.
Avatar m tn I suggest you to get a potassium hydroxide smear of the nail clipping done and if it comes out negative then get a biopsy of the nail done to rule out any psoriatic nail. Treatment is different for both and is dependent on diagnosis. However treatment of both is difficult and takes time. Treatment of onychomycosis is more difficult because the infection is embedded within the nail and is difficult to reach. Moreover full removal of symptoms is slow and may take a year or more.
Avatar m tn Its constantly waking him up in the middle of the night because he shoulder will start hurting and his hand go numb. He was saying that a friend of his had the same problems but it was from lacquer thinner poisoning. Im just wondering if maybe there is another problem or not.His left arm is just fine. Im wondering if its a pinched nerve, a bad disk or what.
Avatar f tn what is considered earl treatment, if they never diagnose after first bout of symptoms how can you get early treatment? is a 2nd flare considered early? thats when they say they diagnose after 2 episodes or flares, then mri, etc and diagnoses. is that to late to be considered early?
Avatar n tn Hello, Green nails is due to pseudomonas infection of the nails. The treatment is to trim the nail short every four weeks, don't clean it and wait two to three months. It is also advised to avoid soaking the nail in any sort of water (even if inside gloves) and to thoroughly dry the nail after bathing. If the symptoms persist then specific treatment may be needed.
Avatar m tn Okay... I've hunted the web a thousand times over, and have not been able to come up with an answer.... This particular malady started life as what looked like a zit. I popped it, and it exploded into what looked like a simple bacterial infection. I treated it like any infected zit area (with neosporin and cleanliness), and it just got worse.

The one thing I used 2-3 times a day was nail repair tea tree oil and I bought oreagano oil caps and opened one of themand put the oil in the nail repair. It worked really well. 407029 tn?1253992623 have any of you ladies been a lil apprehensive about getting nails done since treatment
Avatar m tn Some blood gushed out and instantly, no pressure, no pain, eventually the nail will fall off and the blackness will fade away - probably take about 6 weeks - the nail is toast anyway, so don't worry about the hole - it will drain for a day or two, then put a bandaid on it.
