Paxil and the elderly

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil and the elderly

paxil

Avatar n tn Paroxetine is the generic for Paxil and Alprazolam is the generic for Xanax. Is it normal to be taking Paxil and Xanax at the same time?
Avatar f tn I have had some changes in my life( new boyfriend and elderly mom giving me problems) recently I have started having panic attacks and feeling down again. Do I need a change or increase in my meds.
Avatar m tn I had no problem with the Zoloft for 14 years and I am back on it now and have recovered from all of the phyciatric effects of this medication change. The Paxil on the other hand in my opinion is a dangerous drug. If you send for the side effect list from the drug company itself and not the pharmacy one because it doesn't list them all, then you will see all the horible side effects that this drug can cause. I am living proof that it does cause these things.
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist is thinking about it for my anxiety, since nothing is working since a terrible and weird and untreated Paxil withdrawal four years ago. And to the poster, she says it's okay to take with klonopin, if that's any help, since I'm on klonopin and asked her about that.
730000 tn?1234743400 yes the menopause can course your anxiety to increase, I started going through mine in 1999 and up until that time I was an intensive care officer with the elderly loved my job but I had to pack it in thats what the menopause did to me, also I am on benzoes been on ativan for over 30years so that hasent helped, you sound as if you are in control of your anxiety and I say enjoy your tinnies. take care janis.
Avatar f tn I am concerned in that because is elderly that he is being medicated for something neurological they were unable to diagnose. I had an elderly friend of the family whom my mother knew. He was in the hospital and he had some blood loss after surgery. He started talking incoherently because of this and they almost gave him Risperdal for "psychosis". Of course my mother stopped them and he did not have any "psychosis" but imagine if she hadn't.
467977 tn?1262714747 Does anyone know if these are the same? I used to take Paroxetine generic (civilian world) and now realized the army pharmacy gives me Paxil but they label it "Paxil (Paroxetine)" on the bottle....hmmmmmmmmm.............
Avatar n tn That's a whole lot of Paxil! It seems the Paxil doesn't work, so you have to do something. Just be aware that Paxil can be very hard to discontinue, so make sure before you do your psychiatrist knows about withdrawal and how to deal with it. And educate yourself on slow tapering. That being said, if it's not working, then you do have to try something else.
4981427 tn?1371670469 The thing that is scaring me is if I Gain weight and then want to go off , all the horror stories of withdrawling from Paxil , freak me out.. My doc said he would just wean me off ever so slightly... That would avoid withdrawal right?
Avatar f tn The paxil effects my libido (low) and I still feel a little nervousness, but that is subsiding. It's been 3 weeks of Paxil so far. I take the Klonopin to releive the nervousness. To answer your other question, I haven't experienced anything "weird" per se....
Avatar f tn I was weened off of Effexor and now on Paxil 30mg. Sometimes during the day I get the shakes. I'm just wondering if anyone else gets shaky? I take an Xanex and then seem to feel better. Please tell me that sometimes this might just happen for no good reason.
Avatar f tn About a week later, we got a phone call from the physician, in the evening after hours, with the orders to STOP! the Paxil immediately. Apparently, Paxil greatly negates the benefits of the Tamoxifen. My wife had been taking the two for nearly a year into the five year treatment program. The oncologist prescribed an SNRI called Venlafaxine (Effexor). This did not have the interaction that Paxil, a SSRI had with the breast cancer drug.
Avatar f tn You will have to go back to your doctor and ask him to help with the withdrawals of paxil, if that is the decision, and if so, to do it over a three week period....and use the clonopin at night to help maintain sleep and cover some of the anxiety during the day. at any rate, this is what you should discuss with your doctor who knows your husband, and has more information, which may lead to a different course of action.
1297968 tn?1272639250 Hello. Does anyone in this group take Paxil and crave alcohol? I do and never did before....I told my Dr. and he said Paxil doesn't cause alcohol cravings. He also wants to keep me on Paxil..I just want off it..
577118 tn?1233250750 I don't know if it's Paxil or the seizures. I didn't start having seizures until I was on Paxil for a little while, and I didn't have short term memory loss until after I started taking Paxil. It all correlates to the same time. I'm concerned because I have read other people having the same complaint about it. I am seeing a doctor this coming Monday, though, to find out for sure. I shouldn't have to be 22 years old with a worse memory than my grandmother.
Avatar n tn I have an anxeity disorder that triggers OCD and Paxil has worked very very well and given me a great life since being on it. I figure I should try something different to see if it helps the weight gain and if Zoloft doesn't work, or help me to lose the weight then I will have to cut off the wine and go back on Paxil. Suffering from Anxiety *****, but I would take the weight gain over feeling freaky all the time!
Avatar m tn t heard much about doing it the other way around. And why Paxil and not Prozac or Lexapro? Lots of questions here. Sounds like your main problem, from the meds you're on, has been diagnosed as depression, not anxiety. True? If so, you might get better help on the depression forum.
Avatar f tn As for going back on the Paxil, it probably would hurt rather than help the rhematoid arthritis and should only be considered if you have the conditions for which it's intended. The reason any anti-depressant could hurt is that all of them can affect magnesium absorption, and that can increase the pain of arthritis.
Avatar m tn Okay. You've made it complicated. You must take the dose at the same time every day. All ssris other than Prozac do leave the body fairly quickly, though not that quickly, but there are people who suffer withdrawals when they miss a dose. By not taking your dose at the same time you are essentially missing doses. But the problem is, everything you're reporting is a possible side effect of taking antidepressants.
Avatar n tn Thank you for the reply. The symptoms of the vertigo and the (listed) symptoms of Paxil withdrawal are about the same, and yes, I have been having the dizziness...mostly when I turn my head back and forth as in driving however, it's only happened 4-5 times out of the last month or so(actually within the last week). For the last 2 yrs I've been telling Drs. that the feeling is worse in the morning, better in the afternoon.
Avatar n tn I was on Paxil years ago, and i dont tell to many people this but i got pregnant , and i couldnt stop taking the paxil it had already done damage to the baby, so i had no choice but have an abortion, and now its years later , im married and myself and my hubby are on MH cause we cant get pregnant, but about you i adventually got off of it , it is hard, i got really dizzy couldnt sleep, and was very cranky, now it didnt last to long id say at the most a month.
Avatar f tn As I mentioned i mentioned in my post we are only at the beginning of getting pregnant. Also the more I read the more I think that to get off Paxil is very complicated and can take more then just several month while dealing with huge mood changes. Most likely if I am not getting pregnant during this cycle I will go to see my OBGYN and let him know about my husband meds.
Avatar f tn I do not know if michael has taken Paxil, but i did take it for over 8 years and let me tell you paxil put me through hell and one of the side effects was heart palpittions. There are many side effects from paxil that many people are not aware of. SO do your research. There are so many great web sites out there, one is paxilprogress.
