pancreatitis

902019 tn?1249865014 I was diagnosed 2 years ago with AIP, have a 25 year history of autoimmune disorders (eosinophilic vasculitis, mild Sjogren's). Usually have done well with prednisone for the various flare-ups but with AIP, still recurring symptoms and the elevated IgG4 periodically. Next step may be Imuran. Is there anyone out there who has had good results with Imuran for autoimmune pancreatitis?
Avatar n tn Cindy, The diet necessary for pancreatitis is simply a strict low-fat diet. No oils used in cooking, no red meats due to their high fat content, no alcohol, avoid refined sugars, white flour and white rice, no fried foods. Use no or low fat substitutes for any dairy products, egg beaters for eggs (no yolks), no nuts. Fish, chicken and turkey can be baked, grilled, boiled or sauted, using small quantities of Pam or a similar spray.
Avatar n tn Does SOD always result in pancreatitis? How does it lead to pancreatitis in the first place? Is SOD curable? Is it progressive? My GI doctor thinks that I have a SO stenosis. I am so fearful that I'm going to experience this pain indefinately, and moreso, that I will develop pancreatitis and die. I feel too young to be combating something of this nature. What is the prognosis for SOD, and how can I ensure that I am receiving the most appropriate and proactive care? Can you hear the fear? Help!
Avatar n tn I will admit, i eat an AWFUL diet. it was during my second pregnancy that i had another flare up (6 years ago) which actually hurt worse than labor (didn't know i was having contraction.) it was a week before my due date-went to get rehydrated at hospital-ended up delivering a baby that day. by the way he was born having seizures and not breathing. he spent a week in NICU and miraculously came home a healthy baby. neonatalogist cannot explain hes full recovery.
Avatar f tn Upon arriving back in the states, I was readmitted to the hospital due to elevated amylase and lipase. I didn't have the severe pancreatitis pain until later that night and then only one other bout two nights later. A CT scan, ERCP, and internal ultrasound were all normal and I was discharged after 5 days. At the end of the week I followed up with my primary care physician and found my amylase and lypase were even higher.
Avatar f tn No one disagrees that you can lose on a 500 cal diet with ow without HCG, but you have to look at the whole picture. How do you feel on the diet? Can you stick with the diet? Can you maintain your weight afterwards? 3 months ago, before I heard about HCG I attempted a 500 Calorie diet to reduce the affects of RA(Rhuematoid Arthritis). Actually I wanted to FAST because having been under a 14 day medically supervised fast (water only) 3 years ago, I knew what miraculous results I got.
Avatar n tn Dear Charlotte, The most common causes of acute pancreatitis in the United States are alcoholic pancreatitis and gallstone pancreatitis. Many patients with so-called idiopathic (unknown cause) pancreatitis end up having microlithiasis (small stones or crystals in the biliary tree). There are many other causes of acute pancreatitis but they are less common.. I will list them for you.

5496415 tn?1373503807 I'm wondering if any of you ladies had troubles with your gallbladder during pregnancy. I collapsed at work last night with horrible pain shooting through my upper tummy to my side and I thought I was losing baby. I'm 25 weeks tomorrow..I took an ambulance to the hospital and spent the night there running all sorts of test. Baby girl is perfectly fine and all they could find was sludge in my gallbladder. I'm not home resting.
Avatar f tn If you are have major itching in your hands and feet you should tell your doctor right away. You should be on a strict low fat diet you could face getting pancreatitis. When getting pancreatitis during pregnancy you can expect the worse symptoms and will be in the ICU for the rest of the pregnancy you also may be on a vent and have a crash cart in the room during delivery. I made it through and hope this next pregnancy is the same. hope I helped!!
Avatar f tn I am 30 years old and have been on statins since I was 7 to try and control the elevated LDL and triglycerides in my blood - which so far cannot be managed by diet and exercise alone. My mother had her first heart attack before she was 30 and had angioplasty when she was 45, my uncle passed away at 33 from a massive heart attack and my aunt had a 7 artery bypass when she was 40. Metabolic syndrome also seems to go hand in hand with this disorder and most of the people in my family have it.
Avatar n tn I'm just thinking if it's really worth going through the pancreatitis and bleeding I went through the first time around. My Dr. suggested doing it again but I keep thinking why do it if it's not going to work the 2nd time anyway? Thanks!
Avatar f tn In few cases the sludge may resolve itself. However it can also lead to other health issues like gallstones, pancreatitis, cholecystitis and gallstone-biliary colic. It is suggested to consult a gastroenterologist and depending upon each patient's individual situation the doctor will advise watching and waiting, changing eating habits or surgical removal of the gallbladder. Do keep me posted. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar f tn It wwould advised yes, my friends suffers with gallstones and went to hospital (9 weeks pregnant there isnt alot they can do but id say that late in pregnancy it would ve better to be checked over an they may be able to give you some kind of pain relief.
Avatar n tn Pancreatitis would be unlikely given the pancreatic enzymes and the results of the imaging studies. I would evaluate for malabsorption or celiac disease, done via stool and blood tests respectively. Imaging of the biliary tree for stones can be done as well, with an MRCP or ERCP. Furthermore, breath tests can be done to evaluate for bacterial overgrowth or lactose intolerance. If all the tests are negative, it is less likely that a major GI disease is causing your symptoms.
Avatar f tn You seem to be very knowledgable with the whole pancreatitis thing, so I pose a question to you. I had Pancreatitis in Nov, spent a week in hospital, IV fluids, pain & anti nausea meds etc... found stones in the gallbladder and removed it 2 weeks later. I still had the nausea and some pain (esp. after eating) post laper. choly.
Avatar f tn the release of progesterone in your body during pregnancy may help that muscle to relax naturally - I had luck with that on my 3rd pregnancy, the only pregnancy I've had with SOD. Also, I have to reiterate what CalGal said about the doctor. The doc performing the ERCP must have performed literally thousands with LOW pancreatits rates following the procedure to be considered an expert. There are way way way too many docs out there who will claim that they are experiencd.
Avatar n tn She is a 23 yr old white female who has regular exercise and has a balanced diet. For the past several months she has been experiencing crippling pain and vomiting. The pain starts as nausea and comes and goes throughout the day, and then suddenly it becomes unbearable and she cannot function, and she starts vomiting. The only relief she is able to get is when she is in the emergency room and given pain medication.
Avatar n tn Lab tests showed normal CBC, normal urine, negative pregnancy test, normal liver enzymes, normal amylase, slightly increased lipase 381 (normal range up to 114-286). Abdnominal/Pelvic CT scan was normal including normal gall bladder and pancreas. Hide-a-scan showed an ejection fraction of 5. The pathology findings on the gallbladder showed chronic acalculous cholycistits with mild lymphogranulatas. It has been 5 weeks since her procedure.
Avatar n tn Hi - I had an ERCP with Sphinterotomy on Wedensday. I spent the next two days in the hospital with Pancreatitis. Even though the procedure went "remarkably well", I ended up with the Pancreatitis. It was a good thing that they kept me overnight for observation because the Pancreatitis hit at 11pm. Boy what a gut wrenching pain that it. Anyway, the reason why I am writing is to suggest that you back off on your diet. I am currently on clear liquids.
1348686 tn?1310657843 She said the gallbladder problems can sometime cause pancreatitis (sp?) but I am so freaking scared. I think if I didn't have the weight loss or the itching I wouldn't be so freaked but neither of those are symptoms of pancreatitis but they are of pancreatic cancer!!! I have 4 kids and I am so scared. Alot of what I read said that pancreatic cancer isn't usually diagnosed until it is in later stages which for the most part are not curable!!!
Avatar n tn The amylase is increased in uncontrolled diabetes and pancreatitis. However in pancreatitis the level is increased four folds. In all probability you are suffering from gastric reflux or hiatal hernia. “GERD symptoms are often relieved by over-the-counter, acid-reducing agents called antacids.

Avatar f tn Preeclampsia, Pregnancy Induced Hypertension, C-Section, Pancreatitis, Gallstones, Gall Bladder extraction, I retained my placenta for half a year and had a D&C, Bacterial vaginosis, urinary tract infections, gastroternitis x2, H.
Avatar f tn Is there anything safe I can take? I can't get my gallbladder removed because I'm to far along in the pregnancy. I'm so stress. Any suggestions??
Avatar m tn 2 months after having her I had to be admitted into the hospital for gall stones and pancreatitis. I had my gall removed and since then my pancreas and liver enzymes have been going down. However, I was told to be anemic, All my iron levels were low but my overall was low? 13%. Not exactly sure what that means. I also was told my cholesterol was fine, but my triglycerides were high. for two months i have been on a 1200 calorie diet, and not touching fast food to take care of those.
Avatar f tn This leads me to believe that if it wasn't a gallbladder attack, perhaps it was pancreatitis. I have had my am. and ly. levels checked recently and they were normal, but didn't have them checked during that episode. I need some help with this one. I really can't afford anymore unnecessary tests, and this is effecting my quality of life. Thanks.
1696614 tn?1306610008 They have always been present and can be described as pancreatitis. It's so bad, T3's or Tramaset/Tramidol are ineffective. I take nothing for pain as nothing works. I had laparoscopic gall bladder removal and lipase levels are in the normal perimeters. After CT's, MRI's, blood work and scopes I am told there is no "Organic Evidence" to prove my claim. I has been suggested to seek mental health help. This has also proved fruitless.
