1108262 tn?1273179266 You can't always blame the drugs. Oxcarbazepine has different effects and side effects in different people. I also use it and has no issues YET, except the grogginess and drowsiness in the first week. Hope we all do good.
574118 tn?1305135284 Things like topiramate (brand Topamax) and oxcarbazepine (brand Trileptal) are off-label, but the anticonvulsants in general are known for mood stabilization properties (oxcarbazepine is very similar to carbemazepine, but with fewer side effects, and a lack of license might be a monetary thing, not a clinical one).
Avatar f tn Sorry I should have been clear: I'm going in for a psychological evaluation specifically for bipolar disorder.
Avatar f tn I read that there was a 10-50% chance my son will inherit bipolar disorder. Is anyone else having a baby with someone who has bipolar disorder and know how common it is to be inherited?
Avatar m tn It is an important question to because bipolar is a serious mood disorder and sometimes if a person is not caught at the right time it can be easy to convince them that they have this disorder if the Dr asks the wrong questions. I will try to help discern the truth with you. You can say yes or no if you do or don't truly believe you have this disorder.

Avatar m tn Bipolar I requires a full manic or mixed episode. Bipolar II requires at least one full depressive episode and at least one hypomanic episode, with no full manic or mixed episodes.
Avatar f tn My new doctor thinks I've been misdiagnosed for depression/anxiety. He says this based on everything I described to him and because general SSRI's just cause me more problems than good (high anxiety and side effects). He says I'm not BiPolar, but that I have a mood disorder, on the BiPolar Spectrum... maybe unipolar. He says he does not know exactly what kind of mood disorder yet, just that I have one. So he's trying me out on Lamictal.
Avatar n tn I'm BP1 and I've been married 8 years. We have a very good marriage, we're best friends, we have 2 kids (5 and 6 yo)... My husband understood me before, but he really understands me now. I think it's important that there's extensive trust there.
Avatar f tn There is a depression forum. You sound as if you're truly bipolar, as opposed to one of the new-fangled and phony bipolar characterizations, such as bipolar 2 and the like. If you're truly bipolar, there is no cure we know of. There are psychiatrists who treat the whole person and will check for other possible problems, such as hormonal problems and sugar imbalances, but they tend to be expensive and not affiliated with insurance companies. Some call themselves functional physicians.
967168 tn?1477584489 Bipolar Disorder present in a Delusional Disorder, residual Schizophrenia, or other Psychotic Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (NOS); hypomanic or manic episodes with no depressive episodes.
Avatar n tn It took me a long time to accept being bipolar, because it has changed my life so drastically and I wanted that old life back, where I was in control. Bipolar takes away self control and it is a very frustrating illness to deal with. This next year is going to the rough for you and your son. It will take trial and error to find the right medicine combo for his biochemistry. You could be lucky, both Lithium and Abilify are excellent medicatons.
Avatar m tn my doctors arde confused between bipolar disorder and schizo affective disorder....i hope i get cured soon....by the way, is there something by means of which i can wean myself off totally from these psychiatric meds bcoz i m totally fed up....thanks again.
Avatar f tn Yes I've experienced this but because I have schizoaffective disorder it was usually when I was having auditory hallucinations (hearing voices). However as I have the bipolar aspect of schizoaffective disorder this can also occur when I am manic as I can't focus or concentrate. This happens to other people I know who have bipolar as well.
Avatar f tn Copied and pasted from the excellent psych education website by Dr. Phelps . . . Anxiety can be a symptom of bipolar disorder. This was recognized by the fellow who originally described bipolar disorder as such, Dr. Emil Kraepelin, back in 1921. He described "anxious mania", and also "excited depression", which included a "great restlessness". He specifically named anxiety as one of the components of this illness.
2143567 tn?1342539031 Print this out and take it to a doctor, who will likely refer you to a psychiatrist (or should refer you to a psychiatrist). Don't let a general doctor give you an antidepressant without a mood stabilizer as it can make bipolar people manic or cause rapid cycling. Another thing you may want to check into is borderline personality disorder as many of the symptoms are similar, but this is common in people with a history of horrible sexual abuse. You can have both disorders too.
Avatar f tn Can someone with bipolar disorder/schiophenia ever live a normal life? My brother tried to end his life and his family say they are never taking in home again. Will be ever get better and did it happen because he went off his medicine.

1055770 tn?1254235776 From what I understand Bipolar Disorder's mood swings and phases can cause things like this such as when you're manic and angry you might be impulsive and act on your anger in ways without even thinking about it. As for predicting things, I don't know maybe you're just getting lucky or the spirit of Nostradamus is possessing you or something.
Avatar f tn He was lovely, he spoke to me and diagnosed me with Bipolar disorder and referred me to the recovery team, he gave me blood forms and ecg forms before any mood stabilisers were given.
Avatar f tn People with bipolar disorder type I have had at least one manic episode and periods of major depression. In the past, bipolar disorder type I was called manic depression. People with bipolar disorder type II have never had full mania. Instead they experience periods of high energy levels and impulsiveness that are not as extreme as mania (called hypomania). These periods alternate with episodes of depression.
