Trileptal bipolar dosage

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal bipolar dosage

trileptal

Avatar f tn I am taking my medication for my bipolar, anxiety but the thing is sometime I dont want to take the seroquel at night because I do not want to be put into a drug induce sleep. I like to be aware of my surroundings and I would like to be alert in case anything was to happen. I talked this with my social worker but because of the severity of my mania I think she wants me to be on a higher dosage or atleast a different kind.
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
1108262 tn?1273179266 DOES ANY ONE TAKE TRILEPTAL FOR BIPOLAR ??? IF SO HOW MUCH AND FOR HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TAKING IT??
Avatar n tn hey my diagnoses is bipolar depression i take 150 zoloft,50naltrexone,60mg inderol,trileptal 900,stelazine 6mg,cogentin 0.
Avatar m tn Review this site for manufacturer patient assistance programs: http://www.needymeds.org/index.htm And specifically for the drug Trileptal: http://www.needymeds.org/drug_list.taf?
Avatar f tn If a person has epilepsy since they were a child and requires an anti-convulsant it should be noted that some anti-convulsants are used as mood stabilizers such as Depakoate, Trileptal, Keppra and of course Lamictal (and others) but the dosage and adjustment for bipolar would be different. Since some medications can on occassion raise the seizure threshold it would involve a close conversation between your neurologist and psychiatrist as for what medication is right for you.
Avatar f tn Is anyone on here taking Trileptal for bipolar? Any comments or results?
1212999 tn?1272305203 That's a reasonable dosage of both medications. Trileptal was not quite that effective for me although every person reacts differently to each medication. If the Trileptal is raised you may encounter these side effects at an increased rate. It might make sense for your psychiatrist to add another medication but there may be some interactions so he might want to change or adjust the medications you are on but that's their decision.

Avatar f tn What are some of the medications usually prescribed for bipolar disorder?? I've been taking Trileptal 300mg and Lexapro 10mg for over six years now and I did well for a while but about seven months ago started loosing my grip on the situation again. Please reply!
Avatar f tn I have read that this can work wonders for rapid cycles in bipolar patience. I ussually do some research and tell my doctor what I think so I don't have to worry about suffering from unexpected side affects that we're not properly explained when I was put on the medication. And I refuse to take any medicine that has a good chance of weight gain ( I was 5''2 and 200 pounds a few years ago) I don't want to gain that weight bak. Has anyone tried this medicine before?
1114269 tn?1258680912 You could ask any Psychiatrist whom you do meet for starting either Tegretol or Trileptal which are effective mood stabilizers in Bipolar disorder.Depakoate is good too.
1011826 tn?1274492712 My symptoms are that I am having horrible anxiety, insomnia and irritability since reducing my dosage of Trileptal this week. Backstory: I am switching from Trileptal to Lamictal over a long period of time. After 3 months, I am down to 900 mg of Trileptal, 2 mg Xanax, and 150 mg daily, down from 1800 mg daily of TRileptal originally, and a VERY slow introduction of Lamictal into my system.
5153554 tn?1365430705 The day before yesterday he told me he was only taking one Trileptal a day because it made him too sleepy. When he brandished the bottle of Trileptal in my face as evidence he was taking them it seemed suspiciously full. Meanwhile he's been holed up in his room playing video games non-stop all hours of the night, sleeping all day. Leaves only to go to his PT job. His room is like a bat cave. Dark & gloomy.
Avatar f tn Holiday blues can affect anyone, especially people with things like bipolar disorder. Depressive episodes I don't think are required for bipolar disorder 1 to be diagnosed and only mania is required but they frequently occur. With psychotic features just means you experience psychotic symptoms when manic and/or depressed but particularly while manic.
Avatar m tn i have been bipolar for 20 years. i was taken off lithium 2 yrs ago because it was affecting my lithium--then i had a psychotic break and was hospitalized for over 8 wks. since then no meds have worked well for me and i was started on ect which has continued at intervals, now once every 2 wks. i feel the ect is helping me but is destroying my memory, both short and long term. now the doc wants to put me back on low dose lithium along with a med to protect my kidneys and monitor them closely.
Avatar n tn in most states where you can work and still be eligible for Medicaid as long as you have a disability and of course bipolar qualifies as a disability. You can inquire about benefits issues and all other disability advocacy at your local independent living center. There's one in every county of every state. This has all of them listed. Find the one nearest to you: http://www.ilru.org/html/publications/directory/index.
5101703 tn?1363720186 CrazyMeds suggests Trileptal as a better choice, but this is an off-label use of Trileptal). Seroquel is an atypical antipsychotic. If weight gain worries you, Geodon is an atypical antipsychotic that is supposed to be weight neutral. Abilify is a third-generation antipsychotic, and also used a fair amount.
Avatar m tn I experienced a problem with generic Trileptal. Kept increasing the dosage, with little relief. Then I started having memory lapses due to the dosage amount. The doc took me off of generic and put me on name brand Trileptal and we were able to reduce the dosage drastically and stop the pain. As for when to take the drugs, you are right, it's best to keep an even level of the drugs throughout the day. Best advice, talk to your doctor.
Avatar n tn Keep in mind that everything that works has side effects. Not everyone will get every side effect, and some are more likely than others, but you won't really know without trying, unfortunately. An off label use is one that the FDA hasn't approved the medication for, e.g. trazodone as a sleep aid (it's approved as an antidepressant).
Avatar m tn Being female -- I can't answer your question about ED. I do know that I tried gabapentin -- didn't work, Tegretol (Carbamezepine) didn't work. But Trileptal worked well. It DID cause nausea and drowsiness. The pain doc said to take it a half-hour to an hour before eating and that resolve the nausea. He also advised taking a No-Doz (equal to 1 cup of coffee) along with the daytime doses -- and that took care of most of the drowsiness.
Avatar n tn Student takes Geodan, Trileptal, Resperdal, Prevacid, and Concerta. He is 19 years old. Could this be anxiety related. I surfed the web and could not find any information.
Avatar f tn Neurontin, Topomax, Keppra, Trileptal, Lovaza (anti-cholesterol medication used experimentally for bipolar it works like fish oil but is an FDA approved medication) and Clonidine (which I take having exhausted all other options). Those are only the ones I've tried and am familiar with. I wouldn't reccomend one over the other but speak to your psychiatrist about any of these options (or others listed on that site which is clinically accurate).
471949 tn?1236904026 My son takes Trileptal for his Epilepsy...(he is 16)...it's affecting his memory more and more; does anyone else here take this med and have similar problems? His dosage is 900mg/twice a day. Any lower dose and his seizures return. This has been the only med that has been able to control his seizures. He has frontal lobe epilepsy with seizures that only occured in his sleep (with a couple of rare exceptions). Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn unfortunately, a lot of these meds do cause problems with weight gain. However, if you can possibly try to set yourself up on a plan (sometimes it takes forcing yourself at that beginning), to get out and walk everyday, it will help you a lot. It helps with the weight and with the mood. My son has this problem. He has bipolar schizoaffective disorder. He is on Clozaril, Effexor and Trileptal.
Avatar f tn Just wanted to ask if anyone has experienced swollen glands and itchy eyes when taking trileptal? I've only been on it now for 3wks and am currently on 75mg along with 375mg of Keppra twice daily. I don't have a rash but am wondering if this is just a cold or side effect from meds. I called the nurse yesterday at docs office they suggested being checked out by PMD, any suggestions? I dont have a fever or any other symptoms? Thanks for the feedback.
