omeprazole has caused me to gain 2 stone extra weight around my stomach & I felt bloated, looked bloated, Mrs Ugly Old Woman & gave up bothering to wear anything nice because I look so awful - then the doc gave me ranitidine which caused itchy skin and lumps on the back of my neck and non-stop acid reflux - I got fed up and changed my meds to a tablespoonful of raw apple cider vinegar in a mug of warm water twice a day. Symptoms gone - hopefully the weight goes down as well.

I have been coughing almost non-stop for well over a month. It gets so bad I end up vomiting sometimes. I get no sleep and can't even have simple conversations that are uninteruppted. I've been to a doctor and he has given me Protonix, it's been three weeks and still no resolve. My physician says I have no allergies or irratation in my throat and he feels it is GERD due to an increase in weight over a short period of time.
The swelling bothers me greatly and the weight gain. In spite of this, I had a normal chest x-ray in the ER and all my bloodwork was fine. The attending doctor was a PA who admitted he knew I have an ongoing problem but couldn't find it. The tests showed nothing and EKG normal. So what gives? I don't get it.
Appetite and weight loss are other symptoms. Persons with duodenal ulcers may experience weight gain because the persons eats more to ease discomfort. Recurrent vomiting, blood in the stool and anemia are other symptoms.

Severe anemia too causes water retention and weight gain. In women polycystic disease of the ovary too should be ruled out as it causes insulin resistance and fatigue.
If you pass urine a lot and feeling very tired, diabetes and subclinical urinary tract infection should be ruled out. Other possibilities are hypothyroidism, anemia, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, poor sleep patterns, inadequate sleep, low Vit b12, low iron, low calcium, sodium and potassium.
rarely omeprazole could do it. sometimes the ALT can fluctuate inconsequentially.
I live in the UK. I just want to feel well enough to be able to attend college, gain some weight (around 25lbs) and stop being so sick. I am seeing my gastrenterologist next week and thought I would do a bit of groundwork beforehand. Has anybody had any similar experiences? Can anyone help? Many thanks.
I hardly ever have diarrhea, cramps (except at release), abdominal pain, fever or nausea, or any other IBS symptoms. Naturally, I tend to gain some weight during this buildup. Not sure if it's relevant, but the blowouts usually happen at night, just before bed, or during bedtime.

Take probiotics after major meals, antacid gels after lunch and dinner and Omeprazole empty stomach in the morning. Keep a food log and see. Write down all the foods you eat—their timings and the symptoms and their timings. See if there is a correlation. Take care!
my son has 5 disabilites and is on omeprazole for acid reflux, he goes 2 or 3 nights a week not eating his dinner (although he has lunch everyday, but not usually breakfast) he lost a lot of weight a few years ago when he was in hospital for a month for last 2 years we have fought to put it on, we were suceeding but of late he seems to have gone backwards. some nights after his dinner he starts yawning a lot looks very pale and sweats a lot sometimes when like this he vomits.
i have been put on 20mg omeprazole a day and anti neasea pills but they havent made much of a difference. im going back to my GP on Monday to get a referal to a gastroenologist. I am also going to ask to try a different PPI. Does anyone think that it is possable that a different PPI might help more then the Omeprazole? Also does anyone know if Helicobacter pylori will have shown up on the blood test or if it would require a enoscopy?

Well I'm 7 months that means I'm 27 weeks and I have only gain 1 pound my midwife said it was OK 4 me to not gain weight bcz I'm over weight so u girls tell me it seems like I won't have to do a lot of weight loss. How far are u nd how much you gain?
I take galavson and it works well but that's only for when I get heartburn and mine is so severve I don't wanna wait till it hits I want to prevent it.
You won't gain weight until later...
