Avatar m tn I then spotted omeprazole for 10 days and it was at 106. I just had a liver ultrasound and everything came back normal. What can the problem be? Can omeprazole cause this?
Avatar n tn this is due to the fact that your body is unable to process the salts in your body due to the dysfuntion of the billirubinary tree and liver, so the salt rises to the top of the skin. in addition early signs of high billi levels can be spotted in your urine. Medicines that can help thin bile are availible by perscription. The most common is usro or usodile, which you usually take two to three times daily. consult your hepatologist for more information. hope this helped.
Avatar f tn t keep anything down, and I am constantly in and out of the bathroom even throughout the night. The gurgling is so intense it wakes me up from sleep. I did some research online and read that Omeprazole can cause Hepatitis and liver issues. This concerns me greatly because I already have Hepatitis C and a swollen liver. Should I stop taking Omeprazole? Please help. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I have had a constant dull upper and mid right quadrant pain for the last 5 months. The pain is more of an annoyance and sometimes hurts when I bend or twist my body. Sometimes, it feels like gnawing or pinching. No nausea or vomiting. No significant changes in bowel movements. I’ve had IBS for over 10 years so nothing out of the ordinary. I thought maybe it was the gallbladder or appendix at first, however, I’m not quite sure. I’ve been to my primary three times for the issue.
Avatar f tn I had not taken the omeprazole for awhile but when I started treatment with sovaldi and olysio I started taking it again because I was having a huge problem with gas and pressure. It helps me enormously. Some people say you should not take it with treatment drugs but I contacted both Sovaldi and Olysio and was told it is fine to take. Plus, my doctor also said it is okay. I have cirrhosis. I take 20 mg twice a day as prescribed by my doctor.
Avatar m tn Everything ingested into the body, including foods and medications, enters the bloodstream through the digestive tract and travels to the liver. Most medications metabolize, or break down, in the liver and some such as Ambien may break down into substances that can damage liver cells. I hope you are seeing a hepatologist as they can best advise you about Ambien and it's effects on your liver.
Avatar f tn Hi again, i just wanted to let you know that before I joined this Forum I had left a message on the FDA's question line. They had not gotten back to me so I thought I'd never hear back. Today, however, I did hear back from them. I asked them about whether the meds. and supplements that I've been taking, and especially Verapamil, Zantac and Prilosec OTC could possibly cause an elevation in liver enzymes.
Avatar m tn Commonest cause of chronic nausea/vomiting is acidity. Take omeprazole (empty stomach in morning) and antacid gel and see if it helps. Liver and kidney dysfunction is another cause. Hence kidney and liver function tests should be done. Other causes are diabetes and hypothyroidism. Electrolyte imbalance too can cause nausea/vomiting. IBS, gluten or lactose intolerance, parasites in gut too can be the cause. A stool test should be done for worms, giardiasis etc.
Avatar m tn Crestor - a statin - can cause liver enzyme elevation and slight elevation in bilirubin. You didn't mention how long you've been on Crestor but the general approach when initiating statin use is to get a baseline liver function test and then check again in a few months. Despite that fact that statins can cause elevated liver enzymes it is not clear that liver damage results from statin induced enzyme elevation. This is something to discuss with your doctor.

Avatar m tn When these symptoms occur it knocks him totally out for the day! He looks as if he has the flu and often the chills will occompany these spells. This has been going on for over 1 1/2 yrs and doctors have not been able to find the cause. He has had all vitals checked, meds checked, an MRI of his brain, stress test for heart, heart cath, checked for diabetes, dehydration, full bld work up, ultrasound of coranary arteries, seen an ENT with balance test and full ENT tests and no diagnosis.
Avatar n tn It is easy to find information regarding drug-drug interactions for omeprazole (Prilosec) and atorvastatin (Lipitor). The omeprazole appears to increase the bioavailability of the statin, increasing the risk of side effects. Does this mean that the interaction is like taking a higher dose of the statin, which would provide benefit for someone like me who only takes a low dose (10mg atorvastatin daily) and has no statin tolerance issues?
Avatar f tn Took Omeprazole for 90 days which I finished this week. I was still having abdominal pain and went to the Cleveland Clinic where I was diagnosed with Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth. I took an antibiotic for 10 days and still have abdominal pain. I go back next week for a second EGD. I have been experiencing these symptoms since July. I was wondering if anyone has experience these same symptoms or had a definitive diagnosis? Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn If you are on omeprazole, there is no stomach acid left to completely digest the natural colors of the food you are eating. Try eating some fresh beetroot and enjoy the dark red for the next three days. Or a big bag of blueberries, which will turn the stool blue. Carrots might come out more orange. This is completely normal and no cause of worry.
Avatar m tn Bowel movements vary from diarrhea to slender solids. Constant bloating, cramping and discomfort. I have been told to take probiotics and my omeprazole which do nothing. Had an ultrasound to rule out the liver, pancreas ect..... Its super frustrating but you just learn to live with it I guess...

Avatar m tn Well now that you've pointed it out, I've been having above normal gas discomfort, but I thought it was related to the spanish cuisine. I will definitely follow your advice and request a battery of tests. I'll start taking Omeprazole in the mornings and the antiacid gel at bedtime to see if there's any improvements. Thank you sooo much for the advice!!!
Avatar f tn You will need to take a combination of medications (under medical supervision) like a proton pump inhibitor such as omeprazole, lansoprazole or pantoprazole empty stomach in the morning and an antacid gel after meals for complete relief. Possibility of H pylori infection too should be looked into by a carbon urea breath test and a combination antibiotic tried. Many a times a persisting H pylori infection can be the cause behind acidity not responding to treatment.
Avatar n tn I went to my doctor with the fact that I have daily heartburn which I control with over the counter medication (Xantax in the UK). She prescribed me Omeprazole which worked well. At the same time she sent me for liver function tests. I went for the results and all was fine except my GGT was 93. (I do drink regularly). She asked me to wait 1 month and go again, which I did.
Avatar n tn However in your case it can be a combination of stress and acidity. Raise head end of bed. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks and spicy food. See if this helps. Meanwhile try and get liver, pancreatic and gall bladder function assessed. It would be best to consult a doctor-may be go to a walk in clinic. Take care!

Avatar f tn I use to take iron pills 325mg twice a day, omeprazole 20mg twice a day, I drink malox or pepto bismuth to try and coat the stomach. At the ER they gave me narcos to help with pain. I just refuse to take that. But anyway I am 5'3, 115 pds, 45 yrs old. I understand how important it is to see a GI specialists but I can not afford it. My insurance want pay for it because they said this was a already existing condition before I got the insurance.
Avatar n tn Regarding the chromogranin-A, I agree with the octreotide scan, and I am not aware omeprazole interfereing with the results. Obtaining urine tests for 5-HIAA can also be considered to screen for carcinoid.
Avatar m tn He/she will find out your liver fibrosis stage and get you on the correct treatment for your Hepatitis C genotype so that you can join the ranks of the cured. You will feel much better after you are cured and you will be much healthier. If you have not had a TB test, you also need a TB test just to be sure that the night sweats are not being caused by TB.
