Avatar m tn I had a physical for a job, and my liver alt was high at 82. After a week with no alcohol or Tylenol it went up to 97 a weeks later 170. I then spotted omeprazole for 10 days and it was at 106. I just had a liver ultrasound and everything came back normal. What can the problem be? Can omeprazole cause this?
Avatar m tn Everything ingested into the body, including foods and medications, enters the bloodstream through the digestive tract and travels to the liver. Most medications metabolize, or break down, in the liver and some such as Ambien may break down into substances that can damage liver cells. I hope you are seeing a hepatologist as they can best advise you about Ambien and it's effects on your liver.
Avatar n tn this is due to the fact that your body is unable to process the salts in your body due to the dysfuntion of the billirubinary tree and liver, so the salt rises to the top of the skin. in addition early signs of high billi levels can be spotted in your urine. Medicines that can help thin bile are availible by perscription. The most common is usro or usodile, which you usually take two to three times daily. consult your hepatologist for more information. hope this helped.
Avatar f tn I did some research online and read that Omeprazole can cause Hepatitis and liver issues. This concerns me greatly because I already have Hepatitis C and a swollen liver. Should I stop taking Omeprazole? Please help. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Gastritis Jan 2018. I have lost over 30 pounds since I cant eat large meals and I cant eat a lot of foods. At this point everything upsets my stomach. I take extra strength Gas X all day. I was taking Omeprazole until I heard it was causing liver problems. NOW I don't know what to do. I went to GI doctor, I guess ill go back and spend more money I don't have. HELP!
Avatar f tn I am a 41 year old female. I have been suffering breathing problems for a while now - I struggle to get decent inhale - feel the need to yawn constantly and have to hold nose for this so that get decent yawn - Dr thought this was asthma but I don't think so as went to hospital when having real breathing problems and they said oxygen level was fine - also inhalers don't relieve the symptoms. Was sent home with a temazepam!!
Avatar m tn I drank a few beers 3 days before the test and take Tylenol here and there. I spoke with my doctor and said stop alcohol and tylenol tested week later and alt went up to 97. Tested another week later and alt jumped to 170. I am about 40 lbs over weight, I also take omeprazole 2xa day. I quit the omeprazole a week ago and am going to retest tom. Can the omeprazole have caused this?
Avatar f tn Ultrasound showed no issue with gallbladder, kidneys, appendix or liver. Liver only shows a hemangioma that has not gotten bigger since 2019. My pancreas was obscured. I also had normal blood work except for calcium which was 10.3 but my doctor wasn’t concerned. After no changes after 8 weeks of omeprazole, I was changed to protonix 2x daily. No changes after a few weeks, I went back to the dr because I started to feel right side back pain. He referred me to a GI which is in two weeks.
Avatar f tn I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and have been taking omeprazole twice a day every day for a few months (I had been on Prevacid for several years before the omeprazole but insurance won't cover it any more). If your main symptom is burping, I would try going off of the omeprazole and switching to gas-x or some other type of gas relief medicine. As long as you aren't having a lot of problems with heartburn or acid reflux, you would probably be fine to discontinue using the omeprazole.
Avatar f tn Take omeprazole (empty stomach in morning) and antacid gel and see if it helps. Liver and kidney dysfunction is another cause. Hence kidney and liver function tests should be done. Other causes are diabetes and hypothyroidism. Electrolyte imbalance too can cause nausea. IBS, gluten or lactose intolerance, parasites in gut too can be the cause. A stool test should be done for worms, giardiasis etc. Also if nothing is found then food challenge test to detect food intolerance should be done.
Avatar n tn I have diagnosed GERD, hiatal hernia, gastritis and reflux that aspirates into my lungs. I take either Zantac or Omeprazole, depending on how I feel. My liver doctor says that many hepatic patients take them and with my diagnosis I need to stay on medication. I worry because I do not want extra stress on my liver, but also know that I have another health issue that needs medication. Believe me, I have tried every and all non reflux medication options and they do not work for me.
Avatar f tn If you have cirrhosis it is best that your doctor is a hepatologist associated with a liver transplant center. These experts can best answer you questions and guide your care.
Avatar m tn Following a valve replacement and triple bypass I was discharged from Hospital with a number of drugs and a new one being Omeprazole. I did not know why it was prescribed but after a number of months taking it I decided after discussion with my Doctor to stop taking it. A few months later through the night I got this terrible chest pain on a scale of 1-10 I guess it was 7-8.
Avatar m tn Hi. I am taking omeprazole for laryngopharyngeal reflux for the past 2 days. I am supposed to take two pills daily, one before breakfast and one before dinner. Today, i started having this feeling that food is stuck in my chest and back of my throat but I don't have any problems swallowing. It is an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I did not have this symptom prior to starting the drug. Is this a side effect of the drug?
Avatar f tn I sure could use some advice. Being at my wits end with these problems and now being on Medicare, the docs don't do much for me. I'm 74 yrs old, male, retired, very active. About 10 pounds overweight, other wise fine. Back problems are degenerative and rheumatoid(I think that's it) Problem: stomach problems. Had ulcers since teenager. Almost died with bleeding ulcers when I was 39.
Avatar m tn This is so bad that it applies pressure on my arteries leading to my face and skull causing vision and other problems.
Avatar m tn Last night I took 20 mg of Omeprazole and the pain under my ribcage and the constant gurgling went away. Now, a little less than a day later, the symptoms came back I took another tablet and the symptoms subsided. I have been burping just a little bit (I hardly ever burp normally). Are these symptoms indicative of an ulcer or ulcers somewhere in my stomach?
Avatar f tn Thank you. So, I go in for another liver enzyme blood test in a month. I guess I should stop taking both omenprazole and zantac until then? Is that what you would do? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Was started on omeprazole and bloating/discomfort left-mid-right have definitely decreased. Now just have infrequent "jab" type feeling Right upper to lower quad (kind if "side sticker" feeling) had JAK2 test which was Neg.(?test looking for myloprolifertive neoplasms)did have UA C&S done which I'm assuming was neg, since I didn't hear anything.I'm concerned with CT findings.Could an ovarian "cyst" cause leukocytosis?
Avatar m tn during this time i have been to a and e 5 times with pain and tingles and back pain, all ecgs were fine all blood tests fine chest x ray fine, also been to doctors who ran blood tests for everything including thyroid, liver, blood cell count and diabetes, blood clots. also had stool sample and urine test all fine.
Avatar f tn Most knowledgeable hepatologists prescribe proton pump inhibitor (PPI) drugs like Nexium or Prilosec. Both are generally considered liver friendly; omeprazole is available generically if cost is an issue.
Avatar n tn (that’s the reason you are being given medication for acidity) Liver and kidney dysfunction is another cause. Hence kidney and liver function tests should be done. Other causes are diabetes and hypothyroidism. Electrolyte imbalance too can cause nausea. Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into.
Avatar f tn Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks and spicy food. See if this helps. Pancreatic and liver function should be assessed. Do consult your doctor and discuss this. Take care!

Avatar m tn At first my wife had urinary infection, few weeks later she started to have fever and stomach problems, the docter told her it was a gastroenteritis. I bought her omeprazole and gave her amoxicilline, that worked. She felt fine, but few weeks later she had urinary infection symptoms again. The doctor gave her antibiotics again, that helped her.
1575711 tn?1296054705 Pylori bacteria that causes alot of digestion problems like gastritis and stomach ulcers. My dad and I found this honey online called Manuka Honey that apparently treats all the problems I could possibly have so we ordered some and are going to try it. But I'm just scared that it's not going to work and that I'm not going to find out what's wrong with me. I don't understand why this is happening. It's affecting my entire life.
