440171 tn?1204778801 I go for the VCO, virgin coconut oil. It is also antiviral and antibacterial, thus would maybe even help prevent or diminish rashes. It is great on the scalp and hair too. I have been very lucky not to have any dry skin problems, yet... Maybe I can partially attribute it to drinking about 4 liters (1gallon) or more of water per day. I am not using more creams than I did before tx. The only place which feels dryer are the soles of my feet and I use a mixture of shea butter and VCO on them.
1655526 tn?1330655629 Coincidently, around 12 years ago when my arrythmia took a turn for the worse, I was on a health kick, had decided to clean up my health and diet, and started taking fish oil with Omega 3-6-9 and borage oil because I had heard it was heart healthy and would lower my cholesterol. Never made the connection between the supplements and the worsening arrythmia. I was on several other self-prescribed vitamin and mineral supplements as well.
535822 tn?1443976780 Most oils combine different fats in them, and olive oil is one of them. It has some omega 3, some omega 6, some omega 9 fats. But if you do high heat cooking, it can't be your only oil. Some highly saturated oils, such as coconut and red palm, are quite good for you because they're also very high in antioxidants. Now, an interesting point. Everyone keeps talking about vegetable oils. There are no vegetable oils.

2125174 tn?1339238689 Hi, your pug could be suffering from an allergy. Or he could just have dry skin, due to insufficient Omega 3's. Try changing your dogs diet to the very best food you can afford. Something with no grains and preferably organic. Luckily for you, your pug is a small dog, and providing him with good quality food, shouldn't break your budget. You can also provide him with Olive Oil twice daily. 1 to 1 and 1/2 teaspoons.

Avatar m tn t just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding.

Avatar m tn The role of fats in heart disease is an evolving opinion, but certainly most research hospitals suggest polyunsaturated fats are much healthier and in fact a necessary component to most people's diet. Omega 3 and 6 fish oils, for example, are prescribed universally to people with Cardiac Artery Disease, and fish oil is certainly a Poly oil. I haven't a clue about cashews, I'm a Hazelnut (Filbert) fan myself. They are delicious in salads.
Avatar m tn I used to use normal vegtable or canola oil, and then I switched to olive oil, but then I heard olive oil is not good as the oils when heated turn to transfats and other nasty things. I was then told that pig fat is a natural oil that can be used for cooking, and the list goes on and on... I know have some brown rice oil on my hands, but wondering if that is safe or not. I have been browing the web and have found many sites which compare the oils, but some sites are conflicting.

4274823 tn?1388529098 Thanks for the list. I avoid soy and flax due to a health issue. I do eat pumpkin seeds and walnuts as well as plenty of vegetables and fruit. Interesting about papaya. Ideally I would like to get it from food rather than have to purchase an expensive supplement that I don't feel 100% comfortable with.
