Since then, my ear drums are not open, after one week i also have a sour taste in my mouth. What causes the sour taste is it swimmers ears. I am using swim sport drops for swimmers ears to dry out the water,but the ear drums only open when i put my finger in the ear and touch my eardrums, then after 30 seconds it closes again. I can hear but not so good. My eardrums do still feel wet. Is it normal that the ears have not returned to normal after 2 weeks.
My b.f. had what was diagnosed as severe swimmers ear when he was about 9/10 y.o. The treatment that stopped it after failed meds/drops involved some sort of contraption that shot water(?) into his ear while he was literally strapped down. Afterwards he vomitted for awhile and remembers the SE being cured.
He has been suffering from what was diagnosed as swimmers ear again at around 16yo. Drops were prescribed but as soon as they were stopped it comes back. It has been 11 years now.

ATLANTA — The first national estimates of swimmer's ear say it causes about 2.4 million trips to doctors and hospitals in a year.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also said swimmer's ear cases amounted to about $500 million in annual medical costs — or roughly $200 per visit.
(Letting gravity take over by laying on my side, chewing gum while laying on my side, hydrogenperoxide, rubbing alcohol, rubbing alcohol with vinegar and even over the counter swimmers ear drops.) My ear canal is sore and still nothing has helped. It’s annoying and things that friends have had worked aren’t working for me. Help!
Fluid behind the ear is secondary to infection in the throat or nose which can cause a backwater effect and block a tube called eustachian tube (which has easy access to ear, nose and throat and lies at the back of the nose) and thereby leads to absorption of air in the middle ear and it is replaced by a sterile fluid in the middle ear.If your ear drum is intact, then the two infections are not related to one incident.
The alcohol absobs the water/gets the water out of your ear and the vinegar puts the acidity back in your ear. I had swimmers ear alot when I was younger and my niece has it right now. I used this mixture every time I went swimming too, to prevent it from occuring.

Still blocked and in incredible pain onto ear antibiotics drops w/steroroids. These were just sitting in my ear. I went to an ENT he removed pus said I had a horrible infection did not know how I was up and about. He put me on a different antibiotic/steriod concetrate drops. 4 days later I could not hear at all. I went in and he drained more pus, cultured my ear, said that I had a fungus infection. He injected a lotimin cream in my ear. Now I really cannot hear and I am still miserable.
For the past few months both of my ears have felt like liquid was coming out of them. Then my right ear started hurting and popping out of no where, I let it go on for a few days thinking it would go away but it didn't so I told my parents. They put some swimmers ear drops in my ear thinking maybe it would dry up any wax causing pressure and we could take it out because we've done that before for my sister and it helped, but it only made it worse.
) and gave me augmentin 875mg twice a day and then some tessa (sp) pills, ear drops, and said to take claritin once a day. well the ear drops were not working at all and my ears hurt worse than before so they switched my ear drops.. and gave me robitussin with codiene since the plain robitussin was not doing the job and keeping me up all night.. (i was getting half hour of sleep a night) the new ear drops seem to be working but my ears still feel very full and itchy..
3 weeks ago Monday- woke up with symptoms of 'swimmers' ear. began using neomycin/cortisone eardrops. 3 days later -thursday, severe pain in ear, jaw and extreme pressure.went to Kaiser. Ear was thoroughly irrigated and some ' matter' came out. ear drum was dull and non transparant.Continue using drops, sinus irrigation, flonaise, sudaphed, ibuprofen.-Monday week 2- severe pain, pressure not getting better at all.
I have chronic sinuitis and that is apart of fms, So if i get to congested in my sinuses then it goes down into ears then i get a lot of fluied in my ears and boom i get vertigo. The one thing i do at home to help myself, is to use swimmers ear drops in my ears anytime i start having hearing problems, such as ringing , popping, hearing going in and out , or just the sinsation that i might have fluid in my ears , im sure you know all the symstoms.
Its not swimmers ear or sinus ? I have the same issues.
Viral infections are by exclusion and do not need any antibiotic therapy. Keep the ear canals dry and complete your antibiotic course, apply the ear drops meticulously. Consult your primary care physician who will do blood tests and take a swab and may do a culture to determine the cause and prescribe appropriate medications.

my son had a case of "swimmers" ear. Dr 1 prescribed antibiotic drops. no help. Dr 2 pulled out a lot of ear wax and said to get eae wash kit, no help. Ent Dr said he had fungul infection and we were told to use athletes foot liquid drops, ie; lotrimin. that worked. Ent said that antibiotic drops feed the fungus.
For several years I have had a sort of swimmers ear, with itchy, weepy skin inside my left ear canal. Sometimes cortizone cream will help relieve it for awhile but it always returns again. Now, I seam to have this same condition around my rectum (and hemmoroids). It is VERY VERY itchy and disturbs my sleep . After scratching the area it weeps . Do you have any remedies? I have used cortizone cream but it does not work for long.
