Nitroglycerin for high blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Nitroglycerin for high blood pressure

nitrostat

Avatar n tn Well, Viagra is not safe at all in the presence of nitroglycerin tablets and in fact, we know that if anyone takes Viagra with nitroglycerin tablets, that the blood pressure can be lowered precipitously and can be lowered to such levels as can be extraordinarily dangerous to you. [ABC News report from May 2008 - Internet] As we know, not everyone experiences negative side effects from every medication.
Avatar n tn I take a nitrate (isosorbide) for more than 6 years 3 times before going to gym for workout. My blood pressure does not drop between intervals...in fact I was told to have intervals of nitrate free period. It is true, nitro dilates the coronary vessels and prevents angina (chest pain). The patch should only be worn for up to 12 to 14 hours a day, or as directed by your doctor, but continued use with no interruptions can cause a tolerance for drug....
572651 tn?1530999357 As always it stopped my discomfort, depressed my already low blood pressure and I went to sleep for about 3 hours. I've used nitroquik for the past 3 months or so and it always stops the pain and gives me relief within minutes. It makes me wonder if nitroglycerin is part of anyone's MS drug protocol? Just wondering a lot these days.....
Avatar f tn When should a person go to the ER for high blood pressure. I've been having a pounding head ache, face has been flushed, etc for over three days. I used to have to take high blood pressure medicine but I was running, loosing weight and my need for the medication was done. I've recently gained weight and haven't run in about 3 months. My blood pressure is 150 over 95. When do I just wait to go see my regular doctor and when do I go to the ER?
Avatar n tn Female age 50 ... I was being treated for pneumonia with 10 days of levaquin and lodrain 24 D. On the fifth day I started having moderate and continual pain between my sholder blades in the upper back and heartburn (no heartburn for 25 years previously) and extreme fatigue. I thought it was the pneumonia and didn't go to the doctor for five days. My blood test then showed troponin was high, doctor said I may have had a heart attack. Doctor wanted a stress test ... which showed normal.
Avatar m tn s obviously not controlling your blood pressure, so I personally would not see any reason for taking it. I was on Lopressor for blood pressure control for several years and was in the same situation as yourself -- my heart rate was too low, and my blood pressure was still too high. But why are you on the nitro patch?
Avatar f tn For 3 months now I have been dealing with extreme high blood pressure. Avg. 220/123, accompanied by chest pain in my upper left size of my chest. This pain does not move. I have been put in the hospital 3 times within these 3 months. I get stress tests, ultrasounds, X-rays and blood work. All tests says I am not having a heart attack, but with my blood pressure being high it is making my left side of my heart to struggle and causing my heart walls to thicken..
805943 tn?1238093647 Nitroglycerin is a vasodilator not only for your heart vessels but for the vascular system which then subsquently lowers your blood pressure. It even dilates the vessels in the brain which then usually gives the side effect of the headache also. Fortunately, I don't have any side effects, but many people avoid nitro due to the head ache effect and that is a problem!
Avatar n tn i have been diagnosed with spastic angina. i have blood pressure 116 over 72 angiogram shows no problem with cholesterol 2.5 on test. i have been given norvasc and lipitol ?
Avatar f tn These were specifically for the cold hands and feet, not for high blood pressure, as mine has always been low (90/60). The Norvasc was tried for 30 days with no improvement. Nerve conduction studies ruled out nerve damage so arteriorgram of upper extremities was recommended. My results per radiologist was "Severe Vasospasms" When they injected the dye into the artery they could not see anything. However, when nitroglycerin was administered everything showed up...no blockage.
Avatar m tn His PA pressure is normal at 28/15 as was the RV pressure normal at 29/14. His pulmonary wedge pressure is a bit high at a mean pressure of 21, his RA mean pressure is also high at 17. He also had full oximetry assessment to rule out intracardiac shunting. There is no evidence of any intracardiac shunting seen. The patient appears to have purely interstitial lung disease causing shortness of breath on exertion. There is no cardiac component seen.
Avatar f tn As anyone had the stress test the two parts myacardial perfusion scan after 4 weeks the cardiologist sent a prescription for asprin , isosirbide monitrate, amlodipine antrovastatin said my scan was 15% what does this mean is this not too bad medium or high risk don’t see him for another 2 months sldo can I have a few drinks on them as Iv not had a drink I just wondered people on these meds if they have a few drinks now n again thank you in advance x
715004 tn?1309077280 Record your heart rate also. I do not know how fast your heart rate was or how high your blood pressure was when your doctor prescribed the beta blocker. If it were me, I would want to know exactly what is wrong before taking beta blocker and nitros. Nitros are bad for the liver. If stress is causing your symptoms, you might want to try a vitamin B stress complex. It really does help calm. It could be that you are lacking the B vitamins from your diet.
Avatar m tn The pain lasts anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. I have been prescribed nitroglycerin to take as needed for chest pain and this medicine surely helps. I've had several EKGs and cardiac enzymes done which were all normal. I also had a threadmill/stress test done which was normal. My cardiologist thinks the the probability of me having an occluded/blocked coronary artery is very low.
Avatar f tn The spasm slows or stops blood flow through the artery and starves part of the heart of oxygen-rich blood. For the same your cardiologist will prescribe you nitroglycerin and calcium channel blocker drugs. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar n tn Viagra is a medication that also causes a drop in the patient's blood pressure. It is important for patients to ask on an individual basis whether it is a medication that they can safely take with their other medications. If you are taking a nitroglycerin preparation, Viagra is NOT allowed. Do not use Viagra within 24 hours of the test. Nitro-glycerine (sometimes given during a stress test) may interact with Viagra, resulting in a dangerous drop in blood pressure.
Avatar f tn This can in turn cause hypoxia and fainting episodes. The commonest cause for this is high blood pressure. Also the heart rate needs to be controlled as it can lead to ventricular tachycardia As you have high blood pressure, you should try to control this as much as possible with medication and lifestyle changes. This includes avoiding cigarettes, minimizing your salt and alcohol intake, getting regular aerobic exercise (based on your cardiac status), and losing any excess body weight.
Avatar m tn Is this Beetroot Capsule a high blood pressure medication/blood thinner ? As I want to get it clear .
Avatar m tn I was also given an IV and a nitroglycerin pill. Once I met with the doctor she informed me that I had really high blood pressure and possibly a touch of pneumonia (I guess based on my chest X-Rays). She gave me a blood pressure medicine perscription and a bottle of nitroglycerin pills to take home. As of Today, I have had the same symptons (minus the sweating) for over a week and it is really starting to worry me.
Avatar m tn Nitrate Medications for heart disease - The combination of vitamin C with nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, or isosorbide mononitrate reduces the occurrence of nitrate tolerance. Nitrate tolerance is when the body builds up a tolerance to the medicine so that it no longer has its desired effect. People taking nitrate-containing medications generally follow a 12 hours on, 12 hours off schedule to avoid this tolerance.
Avatar m tn The same with his recent heart catherization was chest pressure. In the ER he was given 2 nitroglycerin, 5 minutes apart, the chest pressure went away after the 2nd nitroglycerin. Does any good specialist in cardiology think that my husband should have the open heart surgery for bypasses considering the risks regarding his age, his diabetes? Avatar f tn I also have 3 valves that regurgitate, mild dilatition of the right ventricular the right atrium LVEDP mildly increased RVSP mildly increased at rest and increased when exercising. The calcium channel blocker makes my blood pressure on the low side and heart rate low around 4l. I just started the meds. a couple of days ago. I have a long way to go with all of these problems. 541196 tn?1293552936 Does anyone take medication for high blood pressure and is pregnant? If so, could you please tell me what you take and how successful it is? My dr. just prescribed me an ACE inhibitor that has a big ole warning about death to fetus. I am not pregnant, but my husband and I have been trying. We put our trying on hold for a few months, but would like to resume soon and we aren't super careful with protection now... leave it to God.
