Avatar m tn If your zinc was too high that would explain the copper deficiency, as too much zinc leaches copper out of the body. The solution is to decrease your zinc intake. If it was just high but normal, then that probably isn't the problem. But if it's too high, again, you don't need to supplement copper, you need to decrease wherever the excess zinc is coming from. This is why zinc always has a warning about not taking too much.
Avatar f tn I was concerned because I know copper/zinc ratio is important so we agreed on copper 5 times a week and zinc twice a week and to supplement D. He insisted that my glucose is nothing to worry about and to exercise 30 minutes a day because of high LDL. He said thyroid effects on cholesterol is exaggerated and that the reason for my high LDL is my parents (genes). My HDL is good, so I can again avoid cholesterol medication.
Avatar m tn s zinc, not zink, and too much zinc is toxic so everyone be careful not to overdo it. Zinc and copper are both essential for the proper functioning of the immune system and are in balance with each other, so the above recommendation would only apply if or some reason a person had too much copper getting into their system and insufficient zinc; in that case, adding zinc would leach out the excess copper, but if there's no excess, the balance could be disrupted.
Avatar m tn I just found out that there is a class-action lawsuit against the companies that make denture adhesive. It seems that these adhesives contain enough zinc to cause many of the my FMS symptoms. I've been wearing dentures for 18 years and I have always used the same brand of adhesive, which is made by one of the companies targeted by the lawsuit. I called my Dr this am to arrange a blood test to determine the my zinc levels.
Avatar m tn And finally, you have to keep in mind that Zinc can compete with Copper, and that supplementing with Zinc on a long term basis will lower your Copper levels. The only form of supplemetal Copper which seemed to have shown increased levels in the body after long term use was Copper Sebacate. It is recommended to supplement 2mg of Copper Sebacate for every 15mg of Zinc - or 6 mg of Copper Sebacate will suffice if you take 50 mg of Zinc Picolinate.
1002911 tn?1251595843 What effect does very high serum copper have? I also have very low serum zinc levels. What could cause this?
2005895 tn?1327721790 Living with stress a long time will give high copper count. Look up copper toxity. Copper plays with cortisol- the stress hormone, and adrenaline. The longer you live with stress the harder it is to balance copper and zink.Take zink togheter with food high in protein and fat for better absorption. I dont know if everyone gets white spots on their nails when they are deficiant of zink. Copper pipes for tap water affects it and a vegan or low protein/meat diet.
Avatar m tn Hi Ravikant, Wilson’s disease is an inherited disorder of copper metabolism, resulting in the toxic accumulation of copper in the liver, brain, and other organs. Individuals with Wilson’s disease have mutations in the ATP7B gene. Dystonia, in-coordination, or tremor may be present, and dysarthria and dysphagia are common. Autonomic disturbances may also be present. Microscopic hematuria is common. How was he diagnosed with Wilson's disease? What investigations have been done?
595103 tn?1219669267 It is treated with medication that reduces copper absorption or removes the excess copper from the body, but occasionally a liver transplant is required. The condition is due to mutations in the Wilson disease protein (ATP7B) gene. A single abnormal copy of the gene is present in 1 in 100 people, who do not develop any symptoms (they are carriers). If a child inherits the gene from both parents, they may develop Wilson's disease.
Avatar f tn so its recommended to supplement with Copper (Sebacate) - 3mg to compensate for that (the body needs roughly 2mg of Copper for every 15 mg of Zinc - so 6 mg of Copper would suffice for 50mg of Zinc - take Copper separately from Zinc (have at least 2 hours between taking each supplement). Both Zinc Picolinate and Copper Sebacate are very cheap, as is Vitamin D3 - 10 000 IU.
1323278 tn?1298122488 By not having enough zinc, I have a build-up of copper. Zinc blocks the absorption of copper. Too much copper can cause neurological damage...and death! On the other hand, if you are healthy and take too much zinc, you will have copper deficiency - which is also not good! A great zinc source is Gluzin - zinc gluconate. Gluzin is fast adsorbing and less irritable to your stomach i.e. nausea and possible vomiting at high dose.

8012558 tn?1399308657 I didn't have experience with gummies, but I would surmise they are fine to take, so long as the vitamins themselves are in proper forms which your body can actually use. There are some peer-reviewed studies which indicate which forms of vitamins are most effective to use. I would suggest googling for those... or something along the lines of Vitamin supplements absorption. There are some conflicting reports though in case of nutrients for example such as Zinc.

Avatar f tn Get all your levels tested, especially iron, make sure they do the follate iron tests so that you know your iron stores and not just what's in your blood. Add in, zinc and copper, thyroid, magnesium, blood type (they should do that anyway) vitamins. Zinc should be higher than copper for optimum balance. You want to make sure of your iron levels because you will need them, especially for after birth because you lose a lot of blood.
