Avatar n tn 9 people reported to have side effects when taking Niacin And Niacinamide, Indocyanine Green. Among them, 2 people (22.22%) have Mania. niacin belongs to what is called antidepressant vitamins http://www.antidepressant.com/antidepressant-vitamins.html As a rule any antidepressant, whether vitamins, St John wort, etc...doesn't suit bipolars. in Bipoarity one has to take care as he walks and watch out where your legs go, very tricky indeed and not easy at all.
1063764 tn?1272821064 I was watching a documentary and heard about a case where a woman was put on niacin supplements for depression. She was taking very large dosages, but it completely pulled her out of her depression. So far fluoxetine has helped me, but I think in time I will need a larger dosage. I would really rather not do that, so my question is: is it safe to take niacin supplements of 100 mg daily plus an extra multivitamin with 20mg. I don't want to end up taking too many vitamins.
1495437 tn?1288798915 I am a 32 year old female that took 3 Niacin supplement pills in 1996. I was told that they would de-toxify my body, and is very healthy for me. I took the pills before bed one night, and was lying there feeling an intense burning all over my body, my esophagus was on fire, I stood up unable to breathe, and gasped for air, feeling light headed, I went to the landing on our staircase trying to get downstairs, that was the last thing I remember.
1135275 tn?1586565652 Niacin is toxic in too high a dose. Niacinamide isn't, and so that's usually used for mental health purposes, but it doesn't yield a lot of niacin. Niacin will also give you a hot flush on your skin, unless you buy a non-flush niacin, which is usually, again, niacinamide. Niacin is usually used for the heart.
1135275 tn?1586565652 Starting with a lower dose and then gradually increasing it as may taking the supplement with food. Slow-release niacin and products made from nicotinamide (or niacinamide) and inositol hexanicotinate are also less likely to cause this reaction. at doses over 1,500 mg (1.
Avatar n tn Joan Has your mother had Vitamin D and Vitamin B12 levels checked. Many elderly people do not produce enough of these vitamins and this can produce signs of dementia. Check out the website www.doctoryourself.com. Vitamin C is also a great healer in large divided doses and may work to prevent future UTI's. Look into niacin or niacinamide for relaxation at night. Aricept is also a medication that sometimes helps with the forgetflness.
1381186 tn?1280202029 Not sure about the magnesium question -- magnesium doesn't usually nauseate people. It can cause loose stools if you take too much or if you take unabsorbable forms of it. Minerals can also be a problem if taken apart from meals, although magnesium can be useful for relaxing the muscles if taken apart from meals before bedtime. The mineral most associated with causing nausea is iron.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever heard of niacinamide? I have just read this: take 500mg to 2000mg of niacinamide(not niacin) a day! google it and you'll find more then I can tell you. i've been taking it for about a week and it seems to be helping quite a bit already. it works the same way as valium and similar drugs without the side effects(its not a sedative). many people claim it works better then prescription drugs. Its about $6 for a bottle of 100 500mg caps!!!
Avatar m tn Having Chromium and Niacin listed as separate ingredients would not be the same as Chromium Picolinate. Separately, (Niacin would be niacin and Chromium would be Chromium plus one of the chelators). It can get very confusing, but with all of that said, per the National Institute of Health "...given the limited data on chromium absorption in humans, it is not clear which forms are best to take.
Avatar m tn com or walmart or any other company selling supplements have Magnesium, B-vitamins, Niacinamide or Niacin (this is B3), and others like omega-3, but focus on the magnesium, niacin and B-vitamins to get better.............. Now, your GI tract is not normal so you get very little nutrients from the foods you eat like the rest of people here with Chrons and UC. The evidence of this is how fast your meal travels through you so little get absorbed into the small intestine.....
Avatar n tn d forgotten about the ebook because I thought my feelings were a candida die off reaction to Niacin (as niacinamide and niacin) that was also in the supplement sample I took. I found my printed copy of Daugherty's book and am going to review it again for help. I know this is an old thread but thought it might help someone else. Heart Palpitations are very uncomfortable but not dangerous. Arrhythmias on the other hand might be serious like---Atrial fibrillation (aka Afib), tachycardia etc.
Avatar n tn 3) Response to over-the-counter supplements vary from person to person, so the effect of niacin vs. fish oil on your triglyceride level is unknown. 4) There is some evidence that coenzyme Q10 may help with statin-induced muscle pain, but there is not any well-documented studies to support its use.
Avatar m tn I just started getting MS spasms; however, last year I was taking a statin & 1000 mg/day of Niacin (*not* niacinamide, which does does not produce the flush) and started having severed cramps in my buttocks/thighs to the point where I could not walk my dog. Found out that niacin is contraindicated for use w/statins, quit taking it. Niacin can lower cholesterol at high doses (my plan). I now take 500 w/out side effects.
Avatar n tn Background: I have engaged a Niacin regimen to cut cholesterol (vs. using statin drugs) because Niacin also raises HDL and cuts LPa and triglycerides (while statins only cut LDL). I have been on this regimen since 2003 and the effect on my cholesterol/triglycerides and LPa has been more than as hoped for. Just as with statin drugs, it is necessary to get regular blood tests (ideally every 6 months) to ensure there is no liver damage.
Avatar m tn I stopped taking statins because of serious side effects and found in books on nutrition that 500mg of vitamin c and nuts as they contain niacin which reduces cholesterol naturally.
Avatar m tn Usually use niacinamide. The reason is that a therapeutic dose of real niacin gives a hot flush to the body, which many people don't like and therefore wouldn't buy the product again. So I doubt the spacy feeling from B complex was from the Niacin. Not that I would take anything that gave me a spacy feeling whatever the reason.
Avatar m tn I found this interesting podcast from Chris Kresser - RHR: How Your Lipoprotein(a) Level Affects Your Risk of Heart Disease. So from that info find a good quality fish oil. I believe Krill Oil is even better but it's more expensive. There is also niacin (look for non flush niacin) and L-carnitine. And of course look at your diet. You can check out what to eat and avoid on this article from Authority Nutrition: A Paleo Diet Meal Plan and Menu That Can Save Your Life.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately most drugs for cholesteral like Lipitor and the other, are considered statins, and most statins are not good for the liver. If your cholesteral is still high, niacin is a natural supplement that will also reduce your cholesteral numbers.
Avatar m tn t have enough self control to lose any weight. I had muscle pain and memory loss with statins, flushing and finally facial swelling with niacin supplements. The memory loss was so bad, I sold my veterinary practice and retired BEFORE the lawsuit. I ran for exercise until I wore out my left knee, now I walk. Again, these labs are before any medication.
718651 tn?1237042917 I was thinking today of if taking niacin would make the opiate come out of your system faster... i've heard of people taking higher doses to get drugs out of their system to pass a UA.. has anyone tried this?? or do you think it will work??
