Avatar n tn Vitamin D may have a direct effect on the eyes, and it is vital for maintaining overall good health. Food sources of vitamin D include butter, egg yolk, fish liver oils, fatty fish such as salmon, tuna, herring, sardines, and liver and oysters. Pantothenic acid might be called a brain chemical. A deficiency may result in nerve and optic degeneration.
Avatar f tn You might want to call other pharmacies in your area and do some price checking on the Metanx. I've been very pleasantly surprised on more than one occasion by going that route. Of course, that's only if you still want to fool with it. LOL! I can't get all the nutrients I need through food sources these days, and have found the sublingual B's do really well. The liquid gets absorbed really fast, and I don't smell it in my sweat and urine like I notice with the pills.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have recently heard that Niacin is good for lowering cholesterol. Anyone have any experience with this?
Avatar n tn I'm agreeing with erijohn, it sounds like a genetic issue. He should try Omega 3 fish oil, I think 2 to 4 grams a day is the recommended dose to raise the HDL (good cholesterol levels) and to lower the Triglicerides, assuming they are high. We all have reasons why we do or do not take certain medications, and I respect that.
1135275 tn?1586565652 i guess an even bigger question is what exactly is the difference between niacin in a capsule and niacin delivered via food? or is there any at all?
Avatar f tn I love eating bananas, apples and grapes, but I read on some websites that one needs to limit your fruit intake. But other sources say to eat as much whole fruit as possible. So I'm truly torn on what to do. I would ask my doctor, but he'll just go back on the whole meds topic, which I truly want to avoid. So any insight from anyone with a similar experience is truly appreciated. thx.
Avatar n tn I know someone who recovered from a stroke by taking niacin so I was taking that, but not enough to do much good. Does anyone suggest niacin? Does it have to be taken before eating food or with food? Also does anyone have anything to say about Mona vie- a drink with acai berries in it that seems to make me feel better.
1063764 tn?1272821064 I was watching a documentary and heard about a case where a woman was put on niacin supplements for depression. She was taking very large dosages, but it completely pulled her out of her depression. So far fluoxetine has helped me, but I think in time I will need a larger dosage. I would really rather not do that, so my question is: is it safe to take niacin supplements of 100 mg daily plus an extra multivitamin with 20mg. I don't want to end up taking too many vitamins.
Avatar f tn Are you taking any medications, either prescription or OTC that contain niacin? Niacin can cause flushing which happens when our blood vessels expand (which niacin is used for) and the blood rises closer to our skin which can cause really intense sensations of heat, extreme itching and a deep red "flush" of color to our skin which is usually limited to the upper portion of our bodies...........chest, neck, arms and head. I'm afraid that pretty much sums up my guesses.
1135275 tn?1586565652 Starting with a lower dose and then gradually increasing it as may taking the supplement with food. Slow-release niacin and products made from nicotinamide (or niacinamide) and inositol hexanicotinate are also less likely to cause this reaction. at doses over 1,500 mg (1.
12802766 tn?1427764870 //www.dietitians.ca/Your-Health/Nutrition-A-Z/Vitamins/Food-Sources-of-Vitamin-B6-(Pyridoxine).aspx I use Epsom Salts too. My 10KG bucket arrived this morning. I shopped around and found one that was much cheaper. I use 2 large cups in my bath of water and some baby oil, sometimes some coconut oil as well as pine oil (the pine oil helps with any congestion). You need a little oil in the bath water with the Epsom salts, because on its own it is very drying to the skin.
Avatar n tn and nix the niacin, every vitamin, food and substance applied to the body and breathed in must be run thru your liver....start reading up on what is toxic to the liver..in here and google it...the list is looooonnngg.
Avatar f tn Niacin in most people causes the face to flush/blush. No flush Niacin is readily available OTC. A word of caution, however, Niacin is a B3 and B3's are known to elevate blood sugars. Test your bs often and on a regular basis.
Avatar f tn if you can try the slo release formula and make sure you take with food.. I use and research a lot of alternate treatments.. Niacin has the propensity to flare up causing those exacerbated feelings also your scalp may feel like its on fire too.. You should be ok and if it doesn't go away seek medical treatment ..
718651 tn?1237042917 I was thinking today of if taking niacin would make the opiate come out of your system faster... i've heard of people taking higher doses to get drugs out of their system to pass a UA.. has anyone tried this?? or do you think it will work??
475570 tn?1280941363 I just want to add that this was a study of Niaspan - the time release version of Niacin - and not Niacin.
Avatar f tn Anyone tried niacin B3 therapy, or know of any success stories with natural treatments for schizo-affective disorder?
Avatar f tn Thanks for your prompt reply. I take 50 mg. Trrazodone, for sleep. My only other medication is Maxzide. I am not intentionally taking a lot of niacin. My multi-vitamin lists 20 mg. As far as I know my diat does not include an unusually high amount of niacin. I do eat bran cereal and drink about 4 8-oz. glasses of milk a day.
14652685 tn?1435693430 ve lived with this issue for most of my life however I normally maintained my protein intake via a diet high in bio-available protein sources (Red meat and fish due to their acidic nature along with some plant based sources) however, due to financial hardship I can no longer afford the diet I need to stop my body from eating my own muscle tissue. It's beginning to affect not only my skeletal muscles but also my heart and other internal muscle structures.
