I'll answer my own question just in case someone else has the same problem ... yes, Nexium can turn stools dark. I went down from 2 N to 1 N a day last night laand stools are fine again.

I'm fairly certain I have LPR. Acid taste in my mouth many days and mild sore or scratchy throat. I have no lump in my throat, no coughing, etc. Three of my favorite things in life are red wine, coffee and chocolate which I know are all bad for me! Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, I was told I had raynauds and recently was told I had EDS which can have some of the same effects like the blue/purple figernalis...cold hands and feet ect.....even the pcos affecting ur hormones can have an effect on ur circulation. Have u been to an ENT dr?

One word - YES. Nexium is also called the purple pill of misery. High and low stomach acid both cause acid reflux but insufficient stomach acid is the most common cause. For 25 years my mother was on acid blocking drugs (she was told she had high acid) and almost died from the side effects. She is now free of GERD, LPR and is 95% improved with gastritis.

For example - i take Nexium every day, and that prevents any uncomfortable acid issues. If i stop taking the pill, i feel the heartburn. So - if i take 1 pill every day for the rest of my life, of any of the above named medications, what are the risks?

) BTW treatment is probably not the best time to reduce/deprive yourself of your Nexium, if effective. Never took Nexium or any PPI prior to treatment, but took Nexium a day for most of treatment. After treatment, I was able to stop completely. So, treat yourself a little more of that purple pill if it will make your QOL on tx better. In addition, you might also try an H-2 pump like Zantac or Pepsid AC (not Pepsid Complete) at bedtime.

They would pay for the powder but not the pill and the powder did not work the same. So I went to the doctor and they put me on about six different ones of which all did not work. I had almost the same problem, I had stomache ulcers, It is usually caused by like stress and anxiety, My Dr. put me on Nexium (the purple pill) I didnt loose that much weight that fast, but anything and everything I ate or drank came out instantly like water...The pains in my stomache was more like massive cramps! So for me the stomach pain might have been start of gerd and the purple pill made it worse or did nothing and the disorder naturally progressed to gerd. Get this checked out as you do not want gerd. Also try a alkalizing diet (see other post I just answered) stop eating pasta, greasy foods and junk food to see if it gets better. Gerd is awful, try to prevent it if you can!

I usually wake up at 10am, but at least twice a week, I may randomly get up at 7am. In the latter case, should I Take the pill around 7-ish, or just wait the 3 hours?

Sounds like the purple pill of misery aka nexium which is a powerful acid blocker. Welcome to your health going down the toilet once you block stomach acid. My mother is free of severe GERD and severe LPR after stopping nexium and taking betaine HCL with pepsin supplements to increase stomach acid and digestive enzymes to help with digestion. At first barely lasted 3 days. On the fourth day i could not take the reflux anymore, took the pill, tried every other day. On the days i did not take nexium i either had red apples when i felt acid coming on, or mixed organic apple cider vinegar, raw honey, baking soda in 1/2 glass of water and drank it. It helped from 30min to a few hours. Something was not right about my formula. I tried without apple cider vinegar and it worked even better.

It has been several months and the back pain and rib pain (left side only) are still present. I have went back to the doctor andhe changed my medcine to Nexium (purple) and Propatinal (blood presure pill). Try switching to a different pill. Sometimes it takes time to find the right pill. For me, Microgestin is fine, though I had to switch from the green to the purple pack due to breakthrough bleeding. However, for other people, it isn't fine. You're one of those people. I have a friend who had to go through several different types of pills before finding one that didn't make her emotions a roller coaster.

35 yrs old. I've had acid reflux for about 10 years - started taking aciphex, then switched to prilosec, and now have been taking Nexium for 5 years or so. No wonder you are feeling bad. The purple pill of misery = nexium. This is a short term drug only. The FDA made a statement to only take up to 14 days, 3 times a year. Also, a a new warning of magnesium deficiency was issued for anyone taking PPI's (eg: nexium, prilosec). That is in addition to the black box warning of increased risk of fracture to wrist, hip and spine.

With the help of the purple pill, changes to my diet, and addressing my anxiety with reading, counseling (and occasionally meds), I was able to get a handle on the whole thing and move on with my life. For the most part, I have managed it well ever since. Have had my esophagus scoped a couple of times and things look pretty good. It has been relatively smooth sailing.

I am currently ONLY on Nexium 40mg a day and I take the pill in the morning, and no matter how much I manage to drink, by 2am the next morning I wake up because my tongue and mouth are BONE dry! I can't find any answers other than this being a side effect. Hopefully it's not damaging my liver or sucking water out of my system!

i dont take any medication but nexium the purple pill for acid reflux but thats about it.

ve been having since I stopped all antacids for several days after the bad side effects from the Nexium.....and I think it was bad on me cuz i stopped the Zantac when I started the Nexium......I ended up in er cuz thought I was losing my mind and gonna have a nervous breakdown! So I don't know for sure if the Nexium made me feel worse or if it was from stopping the Zantac. Was having muscle twitches too.....
