I believe I did hear a piece on the news - a brief bit as news usually goes, that some of the PPIs can cause joint problems. Google "side effects of Nexium". I took Nexium for 5 or 6 years and each day was misery with uncontrollable diarrhea, and pain. I am almost certain that there is a connection. It has many side effects, but I no longer have my pharmacy print-out of the side effects listed. My doctor told me Prevacid would not cause severe colitis, but it did.
I started taking Pradaxa less thatn a montha ago and am taking the same dosage and noticed the same heartburn and was prescribed Nexium for it. That is one of the side effects. I really did not experience the fatigue but I do have hip pain but I think that is due to skipping the gym for a couple of weeks. I'd call the Doc and let them know what is up.
Regarding the use of Gabapentin, you are regularly using since last September and had you suffered similar pains any time in the course of taking the drug? Although it has side effects as any other medicine, joint pain is not among the common or usual ones. You need to consult your attending doctor who had prescribed Gabapentin and update him of the possibility of the joint pains due to taking the drug. Are you been regularly followed up for your thigh pain? How is the pain presently?
Recent x ray shows that my rib cage still has two acute fractures. Needless to say between the joint pain, muscle pain and rib pain I am on multiple narcotic meds. These include 6 40 mgm Oxycontins a day, 7.5 mgm Vicodin for breakthrough and duragesic patch. I also take xanax for severe panic attacks. I am so sick of being a slave to my medications. I went from being an award winning professional in working with at risk youth to an unemployed addict.
Hi, I'm living with GERD for more than 6 years. I've done Endoscopy but no serious problem found on my stomach. My Doctor prescribed me Nexium 40mg a day for 2 months. I felt happy because the GERD is gone even the Acids, I didn't feel at all. After few weeks after stopping taking Nexium, the GERD started again and sometimes, heartburn and acids are attacking me again.
Now, my question is, Is it ok to become dependent on Nexium? Like everyday, I must take 1 capsule?
I've been dealing with gerd issues for the last half year. Colonoscopy and endoscopy were negative. other new symptoms are joint pain/stiffness and no, previous symptoms not resolved....continued lethargy + and 0 weight loss.....
As of this morning I am stopping medication in hopes that the faintness/dizzyness will go away as well as the joint pain....the office of the Dr. that prescribed the medication I have since found out has been closed by legal action!
It mostly works for my GERD - without it it is unbearable. The problem I have is the terrible side effects. They are all gastrointestinal. I am miserable all the time. I feel like my food takes FOREVER to digest and move through my system! I feel like when I eat the food just "sits" there for such a long time. I feel constipated, but can "go" most days, though not completely. I have gained about 8 pounds, and most days I look like I'm pregnant!
I have taken Accutane and experienced joint and muscle pain. However, this and other side effects wore off as my body got used to the medication. I had no side effects, except for dry lips, from 12 weeks onwards and took Accutane for 24 weeks.

re having to go through this. If your shot was Neulasta that is indeed one of the side effects, joint pain. I had it all over my body and it was sometimes crippling but I still went to work. I walked like I was 30 years older than I am because my hips, legs, feet, hands and spine ached like crazy. Even my fingers!
The only thing I can say is when you get your chemo, drink lots of water and flush it out of your system as quick as you can.
Hi I had a colonscopy 10/09/09, and I'm still having side effects. At first I couldn't stop going liquid then it cleared up for a couple of days now it's back.They found 4 polyps again beign but the kind that can turn into cancer so I have to have another next year. But I'm having to use tucks and I'm bleeding off and on from the rectum. I still have bloating feel kind of tired.
And I just started doing reserch on the Nexium because of medical issues I have came down with since I been on Nexium. I have eye problems with very blurred vision. Bone and joint pain, had MRI And It showed buldging disk in my neck a bad disk in my upper back,And my spine is full of bone spurs. I came down with all of this just since I been on the Nexium .
Oh! and speaking of diarrhea I have many attacks where it last for days.
The doctor injected me in my right knee joint and I thought I would die from the pain. The left knee joint was not as painful. After I felf pain relief. However, when I awoke yesterday both my knees where the injection was given , as I bent my knee, felt crackly. The right knee now "catches" as I walk-almost like something got dislodged. What is going on? I will see my doctor Monday cause he was not in. I am afraid to get the other injections now.
I had civir stomach pain, my husband took me to hospital. They gave me nexium and the pain went. I saw my doctor and he checked fir heliocabactor, negative. Nothing showed up on ultrasound. He reckons my stomach lining is inflamed due to much acid and put me on nexium 40 for 2 weeks and then on nexium 20. As I got pain I took a 40 instead of 20 yesterday and expierienced side affects pretty civir: nausea, digestion 3 times worse then before, gas, headaches.
Instead of coming off the the meds abruptly, think about coming off of the meds a step at a time over a period of weeks-to-months. There can be a problem with 'rebound' reflux and it can make a person miserable. So please factor that into your plan.
Issues being reported with the use of PPIs and heart/electrical conduction disturbances, and this side-effect is now being noted on the 'side-effect' section of the patient handouts on these medications.
